He didn't exactly say that. Said he wouldn't be surprised if they went over 5 years. AA came on the damn show yesterday and said they aren't in discussions with any free agents right now. Believe he also said they wouldn't break the 5 year policy for a pitcher as well. -
If Melky signs elsewhere (which is likely by the sound of it) then they get like the 31st pick.

No one is going to want to trade for a 35 year old catcher with 2 years and 40 million on his contract.

AA said in an interview they wouldn't part with a 1st round pick if they sign players to a 1 or 2 year deal and I wouldn't give him more than that myself.

Now this could be a decision that makes the Rays slide down to mediocrity. Managers don't matter much but I have a hard time believing Ibanez or Wak would make good in game decisions.

Well Rays list of managerial candidates are Kevin Cash, Raul Ibanez and Don Wakumatsu. Really surprised Dave Martinez didn't make the list. Also surprised Wak is on the list as I remember him being awful for the Jays.

He hasn't though..Ks are way down as well. In his brief stint I wasn't really impressed either. Stuff looked pretty meh.

Well depending on what happens with Melky.. What do you think is a realistic contract? I don't think he is worth more than Happ to justify the signing.
