  1. Estrada needs to back door his way out of this inning again.
  2. True, good point for sure but I don't see another Ricky Romero here.
  3. All that control at a cheap price though, right up AA/Rogers alley..
  4. Is this a pure wish list and speculation on this board or has there been actual rumblings he might be available?
  5. As the core of what we're shipping I would have to definitely think it'd get it done.
  6. I like all this talk and incoming tweets, the Jays need to make some deadline noise instead of being passively in the back seat again. I believe in this team and our time is now!! With Sanchez returning and 1 or 2 additions I think we can seriously contend..
  7. True enough, that should have been something Rogers considered to give him the necessary deniero last deadline.
  8. Btw- I think AA has been decent during his tenure: Good drafting- (Lansing trio and the numerous other pitchers minus Deck McGuire). Sub par trading- (Dickey & the Marlins disaster obviously along with the horrendous Yan Gomes debacle) but he did shed Vernon Wells and snag Josh (fysmc) Donaldson so it isn't all bad. AA royally f***ed up team & fan momentum last deadline so let's pray that doesn't happen again this year or it's back to back years of blown playoff opportunity. We'll have to fully judge him post deadline and after we see where the team ends up this year (potentially his final year).
  9. I just hope AA & Rogers don't dick around this deadline. The problem going into this season was he needed a starter and bullpen help. Well guess what it's mid season and I'm sure that's cost us more than a handful of games now along with potentially first place in the AL East. Everyone was flabbergasted he didn't address it inspite of an otherwise stellar offseason in all other areas, and all year he's been saying all the right things along with Beeston's payroll bump promise (don't forget). He's got assets, leftover money, Beeston's payroll promises, and Navarro is still here. It's time to knockoff the BS and make something happen AA.
  10. Hopefully Doubront is decent tonight and we can pull it out. Need to stay within striking distance of those filthy Yankees.
  11. That's my biggest fear, that AA/Rogers does diddly s*** (except for a minor move in attempt to appease the fans and save face) just like last year. It'd be another year of wasted opportunity and not capitalizing on momentum (via the team & fans). AA apparently has some money left to spend (plus Beeston's payroll bump promise), roster players (Navarro, Sanchez, Osuna), and the farm (Pompey, Hoffman, Norris, Smith Jr, Pentecost, Boyd, Castro, etc.) to work with so we'll see what happens.
  12. I agree, 2mths of Cueto or Shark isn't worth it without a long term commitment (which the Jays would probably never commit to, rightly or wrongly).
  13. Exactly, that's what's scary about acquiring Shark again this year or a Cueto (although he could be packaged with Chapman). Hamels/Papelbon are longer terms but it will cost us the farm. Is it worth it? Hard to say. We could legitimately challenge for the WS or we could fall on our face like the Marlins trade 2.0, nobody can predict the future or how cohesively they would fit. All I know is this window is small and the time is now. Would I love to have a cheap sexy young rotation for years like the Rays did a few years back, of course. But the reality is the time for this offense is now and we're a couple years away from our young arms coming together at the same time (if they fully do). We can't have it both ways..
  14. Yeah it could be a huge risk/reward situation that comes with potential disaster written all over it. I do think the Jays have to make a bold move though to seize control of the AL East and make a serious playoff push. I'm not against buying low but I just hope they don't get any middling players who aren't difference makers. I get everyone not wanting to mortgage the future but it's going to take losing some assets if we want a real shot at the WS this year and also the next couple of years perhaps.
  15. Jays definitely have the pieces (mix & match combos of Norris, Pompey, Hoffman, Castro, Boyd, Smith jr, Pentecost, etc) but will they pull the trigger? Will AA & Rogers go balls deep to win a championship and take on salary in this very limited window. That's the real question..
  16. Yeah JJ was an unfortunate disaster. I really believe he was hoping he could be a front end starter and had designs on re-signing him if he produced.
  17. Sanchez in the pen might work, would be a worthwhile experiment before the deadline. Would love to see us somehow land Cueto, even at a slight overpay. He's just what we need to make a run and would appease the bean counters since he's coming off the books next year. A lot of if's but Sanchez successfully closing in the pen and Cueto in the rotation might be the perfect tonic for this team this year, it'd appease the penny pinching upper brass plus the fan base. If we could somehow trade enough assets for him without it being either of Norris/Hoffman/Sanchez it'd be a dream situation.
  18. Even the other teams he mentioned had better pitching than we do this year. I'm enjoying this thread and some good points are being made on both sides but ultimately if Rogers/AA doesn't spend money and make trades at some point we will not be contenders. If we're taking a run at the playoffs and the world series bold moves will need to be made..
  19. Exactly. AA held back money this off season so there should be some flexibility for a significant move (especially considering Beeston's promises of a payroll increase). Jays have cash, assets, and a few roster players who are expendable so we'll see if they make a big move this year. If not there needs to be a full blown riot at the Rogers Centre.
  20. Not a fan of Rasmussen but I'll take him over Coke any day in that Lefty role.
