  1. Yes. At least were in the hunt for a playoff spot right now.
  2. They are an unmitigated disaster.
  3. I mean typically with 2 strikes a guy sits offspeed and defends the fastball but at 100+ not sure that's feasible....
  4. The O's have been garbage for a while and we're long past the Adam Jones, Chris Davis, Manny Machado, Showalter era of of the shitbirds. As much as I always cheer for the Jays, it's hard not to enjoy seeing the young kids succeed. Such a great story and we'll see how and where it goes.
  5. Baltimore really does not get the credit it deserves in general. One of the best current stories in sports IMO.
  6. Agreed. That presser was insanely important for future free agents going forward. That said, I’m sure it will be a hurdle nonetheless. Rough stretch for the org no doubt on all fronts. So let’s win some baseball games!
  7. Dope Tolkien reference.
  8. This is an ideal situation IMO. Second only to possibly JRAM

  10. The players position has gone from fighting for the little guy, to increased CBT to having the owners cave to their every want. I am completely supportive of the owners. They seem like to only ones to actually want baseball and finally today had had enough of the PA’s s***.
  11. I have flights to Toronto for the weekend of April 8-10. I’m either going to the entire Jays/Rangers series or I’m doing the Raptors and bumming around the hockey hall of fame. Please get this done tonight. Goodness.
  12. It would but marginally. The PA is much better to negotiate league wide minimums rather than implement a policy that would affect likely only 4-5 clubs. It then raises a bunch of ownership questions, gets too messy. Thanks btw. I’ve been following this board since it’s inception. I remember when ECJF came over from the other board along with BTS. I come here for high IQ baseball conversations. I do more reading here than anything. When I was reading Twitter and everyone is naturally s***ing all over ownership, I had to vent out what I thought was super obvious so I came here. Last thought of this rant is that I noticed most journalists side heavily with the players and I didn’t find it to be at all balanced. Then I realized they probably don’t want to end up like Barry Davis and have players like them and this is an easy way to get in their favour. If their in the favour it’s probably all lot easier to have or maintain access to players.
  13. Wasn’t covid spring training only 3 weeks or so and ended up with an insane amount of injuries? Pretty sure this was well established.
  14. This I would agree with. Keep the percentage equal at a minimum. The only issue is that by raising the CBT you risk a few owners inflating salaries across the board. This there is no CBA for and the PA would certainly love this. As far as the owners waiting to negotiate until now that’s a classic negotiating move. Wait around and in the 11th hour put money on the table. I’ve seen it in my own work environment. It’s scummy but effective. I don’t necessarily side with the owners, but I think the players got what they said they were after, and it turned out to be not the case.
  15. Right, so the players got everything they asked for in that first paragraph. A 33% increase for 2/3 of the workforce is more than ok. If I got that I’d s*** myself. Secondly, I think your next point comes down to do the owners pay a “just wage”. I think the owners pass this test. And now because the more wealthy players have piles of cash to wait this out, they’re indirectly hurting the guys they claimed to be there for initially. A floor wouldn’t be discussed because it benefits neither party. You could blame the owners, but IMO they gave a fair deal to the PA.
  16. Great points. The PA will always fight for higher salary no matter what, it’s their job that is true. But the scope of what they have already accomplished is great. They did a good thing getting more for their little guys. But now it bends into a PA losing sight of the bird they have in hand at the cost of the premium players getting more in the long run. I bet if they put the last proposal to a vote from all the players it would have a shot at being ratified.
  17. Exactly! They got what they said they were looking for but now we see that’s not the case. Bobcat had Buck on his podcast a few days ago and cited what David Stern told him long ago during an NBA stoppage: “Bob, we have $5.2 billion that we have budgeted for payroll. How the players divide that up, we do not care! But it’s $5.2 billion., no more.” These players want more pie for the richest of the bunch, and I just ain’t buying it. This is on them.
  18. Of course I was trying to quote abominations last post! I don’t post here enough ha.
  19. Im also wondering this. The PA said that they were there for the little guy. They got a massive increase in payroll for entree level players. The league also went to 12 teams in the postseason from their desired 14 (thank goodness). The real issue is the CBT. This isn’t about the little guy anymore like the players claimed. It’s about turning $300 M contracts into $400 M contracts now. They said they want competition but this ceiling only affects 3 or 4 teams. If they get the ceiling they want, premium players will be richer and competition will suffer. It’s contrary to everything the PA said they were there for in the beginning.
  20. The mets playing the Yankees cowboy strikeout whistle when the third out is recorded is high level trolling.
  21. Welcome to Jays. Baseball is such a great sport. The nuances and details that are occurring on every pitch are amazing. Like Leo Durocher said, “Baseball is like church. Many attend but few understand.” I’m proud to hear that someone did research on all the teams and settled on Toronto. I’m in western Canada and was barely old enough to remember Joe Carter’s ‘93 walkoff homer. That’s what made me a fan from a young age but the older I got the more I enjoy just watching the sport. Again, welcome!
