  1. I swear it was closer to 5000 at best.. the stadium was so empty. The Rays are likely inflating the attendance number by including season ticket holders, which there aren't many. Real attendance is likely 1/2 of what was reported.
  2. After last night's Jays game, Rays attendance now stands at an average of 14,131 (worst since 2005, and approaching the 2002-03 levels that nearly drove the team to bankruptcy.) Rays fans need to get their butts to the Trop.. this is going to lead to the team trading off major pieces either at the deadline, even if they're in contention, or after this season (their payroll outlook features significant hikes in payroll coming in 2017, and the low attendance will likely force them to lower payroll even lower than the current $73.6M ($85-86M with benefits), even if they get a new TV deal.
  3. As long as he stays away from the Yankees and Red Sox. For the Rangers, it wouldn't just be for next season.. it would be for beyond as well, as several pitchers, including Yu Darvish, will be returning. And they have a shot of making the postseason in the weak AL. (they're only 1 game back of the Yankees/Twins, and 3 back of Houston.)
  4. Hamels willing to get traded to Arlington:
  5. Who gives a damn.. giving up a HR to a lefty yesterday sealed his fate. Now we have a free roster spot for Doubront or Boyd..
  6. Donaldson- Played every game this season, needs an off day Martin-Catching Dickey tomorrow, needs an off day Smoak-Was absolutely awful yesterday Otherwise, I have no idea.
  7. Off-day. Nothing more. Needs a day off after playing every game this season.
  8. And what does that make the Rays lineup?
  9. Travis wasn't to be called up until Wednesday or Friday anyway. Didn't we forget what Gibbons and AA said?
  10. Yeah.. until Cecil blew up in the 9th. Get Papelbon or K-Rod or someone dammit, AA!
  11. Odd lineup for the Jays tonight:
  12. Syndergaard will never win a Cy Young with Kershaw, Scherzer and others in the NL. And Syndergaard could also just as easily crash and burn, or could be traded for a bat (the Mets are under serious pressure to win this year or ELSE.. with Terry Collins' job on the line.)
  13. One of those pieces, Joey Butler, is inflated by a .420 BABIP. And once again, they have not played any contenders or the AL East in June. Their lack of offense is going to catch up to them. And the Rays management team also has to deal with a thin farm system.. they're ranked towards the bottom in farm system rankings, and the pipeline has dried up in recent years because of poor drafting. And that rotation, except for Archer and Odorizzi, has serious regression coming. They need Moore and Smyly back ASAP.
  14. The Rays starting staff is heavily babied by Kevin Cash. They've thrown the fewest amount of innings in MLB per game. Cash frequently yanks them after 5 innings, if that.. you can't sustain this through a full season. And Karns and Colome are regression candidates. And of course, Ramirez is headed to the DL, Odorizzi and Smyly are already there, and Cobb's out for the season. They're still waiting for Matt Moore as well.. and who know what they'll get from him. Watch the Rays get torched in July and August when Cash frequently watches his bullpen get blown apart as bad as Brett Cecil did today because of overuse in the early part of the season.
  15. As for the Rays series, many of the bats that hurt us last time we faced them in Beckham, Jennings, and Loney back in April, are no longer with the club right now, as all three are on the DL. This series is a tough call.. this Rays team has overachieved quite a bit by taking advantage of a weak schedule. Don't expect it to last when they play contenders like Houston and KC, and the AL East. I still think this Rays team finishes 4th or last in the East, especially when the pen gets torn to shreds by August when Cash's heavy use of it catches up to him.
  16. Hell no. Hendriks is NOT a starter. We tried that before, as did Minnesota.. with disastrous results.
  17. All we had left in the pen was Tepera and Osuna. Really, slugfests like this really tax the bullpen, no matter the manager.
  18. Need to get wins this week vs. the Rays and Rangers.. Yanks are playing Philly (easy wins for the Yanks), then the Astros, who will be a challenge. Rays have us and the Red Sox.. and considering Tampa's weak offense, even the Sox might give them a challenge. Look what Boston did to Kansas City this weekend..
  19. They're all winnable games. The Jays offense is much better than it was in April, and the Rays offense struggles to put runs on the board, Tim Beckham, our biggest enemy, is on the DL.. heck, did you even watch today's Rays/Indians game? All those hits and the Rays couldn't score a single run. Look, as much as the Jays struggle in Tampa, there is no guarantee what will happen.. the Rays haven't faced an AL East team since the end of May, facing mostly punchless offenses in LA, Seattle, Washington, Chicago and Cleveland. Until they face contenders, the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and O's again, I'm not convinced they're a top team. And don't get me started on Cash freqently burning out the pen.. Jepsen lost his 5th game today out of the bullpen.
  20. Guilmet is garbage. And West I don't know..
  21. No he won't. Didn't you see that Coke, Tepera and Copeland were optioned? We don't need a fifth starter until Boston IIRC.
  22. And of course, the Rays have to play the Yankees and Red Sox eventually.. watch them come crashing down to earth in coming weeks.
  23. Dang.. Rays win another one. 3 back now for the division(but 1 and 2 on the wild card, which, considering the AL right now, is more attainable).. we gotta beat Baltimore tomorrow.
  24. d'Arnaud hurt AGAIN.. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/20/travis-darnaud-exits-saturdays-game-with-an-injury/
  25. And the Rays haven't faced quality opponents lately.. Washington, Chicago White Sox, Seattle, and L.A. aren't exactly strong teams. Wait until they play the Yanks, Red Sox, Jays and O's again..
