  1. Hmmm. Nowhere in that interview does Duquette deny being interested or that he is not thinking seriously about moving. The closest he comes is saying that he honours his contracts. Still, he doesn't exactly say "I am absolutely not interested, I would not accept the position under any circumstances."
  2. I have the perfect like-for-like replacement for Beeston: http://granitegrok.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Mohammed_Saeed_al-Sahaf.jpg "We've got the Yankees, Red Sox and Orioles cut off. We've got the Rays on the run. We've stopped them this off-season like every off-season. We will make the World Series this year, we will, and nothing will stop us from stomping this division down like a snake in the desert. We are the Blue Jays and we are Rogers!"
  3. Anyone else seeing a pattern here? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6rRy8qwIhM4/VGvszACe8jI/AAAAAAAAIhc/pmNJjJb3CJg/s1600/Martin%2BJays.jpg http://cbssacramento.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/453665284-e1417458978412.jpg?w=620&h=349&crop=1 http://binaryapi.ap.org/ed23a075ef9a4dedb8f619842c7e7848/512x.jpg http://blog.seattlepi.com/baseball/files/2012/05/20120530_smoak.jpg Now AA, bring me Jed Lowrie. And Shields/McCarthy.
  4. My whole point in this thread is that with Markakis gone and with the Jays acquiring Saunders, will the Orioles now sign Cabrera? Seems likely to me, but..
  5. It happened a couple of hours ago and has not been discussed on the forum. Yesterday people were saying he was in our back pocket. How the f*** is this old news? Seriously some days it feels like you could rub every brain cell together on this forum and not get a spark.
  6. As per title: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11974599/nick-markakis-agrees-deal-atlanta-braves Saunders says no need for Nick? On the plus side, Orioles lose more....
  7. So just to be clear, what's being advocated in this thread is that we don't need an ace to either get to the playoffs or enable us to advance when we get there. Further Madison Bumgarner is now statistically equal to Marcus Stroman and that Hutchinson may or may not have little/some/lots of upside. Holy f***ing s***.
  8. That is ridiculous. No way I'm giving up Goins in that deal; maybe Brett Wallace. And I want Tepesch thrown in as depth.
  9. http://www.guerillapolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/system-failure-matrix-code-wallpape.jpg
  10. Add to that bullpen help including a closer and an upgrade to the starting rotation and we're a long, long way from contending. Funny I pointed this out already and was outvoted 5-36.....
  11. Holy s***. $26.5m for 7 years. Better hope Scherzer doesn't break down by 34-35.
  12. I don't know about a bag of balls, but I'd trade Reyes for Tulo right now. Hell if we can get Donaldson for Lawrie and mid-level prospects, why not Tulo and still keep Stroman, Sanchez and Pompey? We can dream right? After yesterday almost anything seems possible.
  13. I wonder if Kendrick will seriously consider Toronto now.
  14. Alright AA, now get Troy Tulowitzki for Reyes without trading Stroman, Sanchez and Pompey. You can do this.
  15. Oh shut the f*** up you liberal pussy. Take a f***ing joke. What a douche.
  16. Strictly tongue in cheek there. Ahem.......
  17. I like the trade and the signing of Martin. The more (good) white guys on the team the better. However, I am haunted by the ghosts of Marlins past. We were getting a number 2 or even a number 1 pitcher (Josh Johnson), a number 3-4 pitcher (Buerhle), the best SS in baseball (Reyes and yes he was described this way after his time at the Mets by many writers/fans), and some useful spare parts in Bonifacio and John Buck. All we had to give up was Alvarez, Hechavarria, DeSclafani, Marisnick and Nicolino. We all know how this turned out. I refer and defer to this excellent article: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/2/20/5429994/hindsight-is-20-20-was-the-marlins-trade-a-mistake So, I'm not going to jump on board with this just yet. Not. Just. Yet. Lawrie, Graveman, Sean Nolin and Barreto. We'll see. We will see.
  18. Interesting that 60% of the respondents so far on that ESPN article think that there is more downside than upside in the future with Cabrera. 4 years at $64m? That's a pretty big ask for a guy with a history of PED's and injuries.
  19. Possibly something along these lines? Agent to Cabrera: "The Jays aren't budging and no-one else looks like overpaying. Let's leak the story about the turf and see if fan outrage will boost your price."
  20. You know they're different from major league statistics right? Otherwise everyone who succeeds in the minors would be a surefire major leaguer, y'know, like Brett Wallace. The whole point of this thread was whether or not we should be in rebuilding mode. I would contend that this core is nowhere near good enough and two seasons of 74-88 and 83-79 do not speak to this season being significantly better without major upgrades. Further we have huge holes on the team that cannot be filled with AAA players and prospects if you want to be a serious world series contender. Why is this so hard to comprehend? Perhaps if I were to put it this way: I don't believe there is enough money available that would realistically make this team a contender. I'm not even sure how much money we would need to put us there. It is a fundamentally flawed squad and we are already working under obvious financial constraints. Relying on young prospects with little or no major league experience, however highly rated, is grasping at straws.
  21. Come back to me when Kratz starts collecting on his $75m. To extrapolate WAR over a full season for 3 prospects with a combined major league experience of 37 games is beyond ridiculous. Plus Spanky agrees with you. That means I'm winning this, hands down.
  22. So just to be clear, you're banking our future as contenders on Pompey being a great centre fielder, Stroman being an ace and Travis a more than capable second baseman? Swish! Well, f*** me then. Jays; spend $200m+ now!! Hell, maybe this year Morrow will be the ace we've all been missing......oh, wait........ Quick note. >Devon Travis - No games at major league level >Marcus Stroman - started 20 games at major league level, pitched in 26 >Dalton Pompey - 11 games at major league level
  23. I salute your optimism, I truly do, but without a 2B, a LF, a CF, an ace, a closer and at least 1-2 more bullpen pieces? And that's assuming Lawrie, Reyes, EE etc. can hold up for a full or close to a full season.
  24. If we were to honestly identify positions of need right now, we would conclude that we still need a good infielder, a left and a centre fielder, at least one ace and 2-3 decent bullpen pieces including a closer. In what universe are we close to being a contender?
