  1. The players have at least some control over the results. Us fans can only watch it play out. The latter is more anxiety-provoking than the former.
  2. Braves fans threw trash all over the field during that Infield Fly Rule game against the Cardinals a few years back.
  3. Ortiz is the most obvious steroid case since Barry Bonds. He's already failed a drug test in his career. He used to do an annual routine of vehemently denying that he uses steroids before every season, and it seemed like he was protesting too much. Anyone who thinks this run he's on at age 40 is clean is just lying to themselves.
  4. LOL, why does everyone get so mad at Olerud for posting about The Implosion? It's not like anything we say on this board has any effect on what happens on the field. Don't read it if you don't like it.
  5. Glad to see this board has finally stopped the ridiculous "managers don't matter" mantra. http://i.imgur.com/FE6YJyP.gif
  6. I think we're well past the point of the implosion being a "fluke" or "bad luck" - as much as this board loves to write off anything bad that happens to the Jays as those things. This is pretty much the same team that was hovering around .500 in May and was third place in the division at the All-Star Break. We added a few pieces at the deadline, not that it helped much. Like early on in the 2014 season, lots of fans were tricked by a brief run to first place only to be slapped down back to reality. This team just wasn't good enough, and certainly not worth trading our whole farm system for.
  7. He should be, but it's hard to say. He should have never been brought back to begin with, and has proven every year that he deserves to be fired, but he's still here. Rogers is pretty clueless.
  8. Ortiz is a known steroid user, and I'm sure he's not the only one. The league will just keep turning a blind eye for their biggest cash cows, though.
  9. The Sox will do it. It'll be nauseating, but it's going to happen.
  10. Get used to it, guys. The Red Sox are winning the World Series this year, and the Boston bandwagon will be insufferable again.
  11. Given your track record of predictions, I'm now even less confident that this team makes the playoffs.
  12. Toronto will go back to not caring about this team after we miss the playoffs and then turn right back into the same team we were in 2013 and 2014.
  13. Season over. If Rogers gives a s*** about winning, Gibbons will be fired immediately after this game.
  14. "I'm sick of having a job. I'm going to make the Jays fire me."
  15. Pitching ultimately wins in the playoffs. The numbers prove it: https://baseballwithr.wordpress.com/2014/10/17/does-good-pitching-beat-good-hitting-in-the-playoffs-2/ The offense can "heat up" all they want, but if our pitchers don't start pulling their heads out of their asses, we're in trouble.
  16. Anyone who thinks we're capable of winning a playoff game with this pitching must be smoking crack. And that's if we even make the playoffs.
  17. Gibbons would find a way to lose the Little League World Series with an MLB all-star team.
  18. Can't speak for him, but I'd have preferred AA not trading our farm system away for the Marlins and Mets' used trash and a half-season David Price rental. Imagine having Syndergaard, Norris, Sanchez, and Stroman in the rotation and Marisnick's defense in the outfield instead of washed-up Saunders. AA could have still made a splash like the Donaldson trade without hurting the major-league club's future. AA's sloppy and inefficient roster-building gave us a fun second half of one season and playoff run, but we're paying for it now and will be paying for it for a while. If he had just been patient instead of cashing in all our prospects, the playoff drought still would have ended eventually and we'd be set up for future success. Hell, he could have even dropped his arbitrary five-year rule and penny-pinching in free agency. That was always ridiculous coming from a GM who kept making the worse move of spending prospects on subpar players. I know it's almost a cliché to harp on the Mets and Marlins trades now, but AA really f***ed us with those.
