  1. The media hype around a players meeting is just ridiculous. All is does is create unrealistic outcome expectations.
  2. For some time I think the league has known he will press and chase in big spots. They bust him in or away. He will roll over or top something often. When he did it yesterday you could see the Rays mouth “it worked” - it’s become an all too familiar refrain.
  3. Big hit off Clay Holmes by Hayes. Os go up 3-0 on the Yanks in the 8th. Normally I would be very happy about this. Lol.
  4. No offence but I just reject these narratives. Teo and LGJ and the home run jacket were made villain's by many with any disappointment over '21 and '22. Most of us had issues with Buntoyo. I did. He is gone. In come Schneids preaching its about attention to detail and the little things. They have Belt and Springer who have won championships on the squad. KK has had a ton of team success. But here we are in '23. Still 2/3 of the season left so we'll see how it all pans out but maybe this team just isn't as good collectively as we thought/hoped.
  5. Got to admit he has a good name. I'll never forget that 15-14 game Sottlemyre started in the rain - got lit up and did a face plant.
  6. There won't be anything easy about deadline moves. Prices were sky high in '22 with wildcard format and more teams in it. A lot of our chips to trade in '23 are already in. Pray for Ryu and Green bro.
  7. Feeling nostalgic for that patient power of JD and Jose today. They were so locked often in and passed the baton when they didn't get their pitch (is this statically true? I don't know. I haven't looked in forever. I'm just feeling nostalgic lol)
  8. Since GM 1 on the wild card last year and 10 starts he has been slapped in the face. Big man needs to go down and try to work it out. We have to piece it together in the meantime I think.
  9. Dropped arm angle a lot. Doesnt always work but worked for his offspeed.
  10. Not sure if it will get hit but with all 5 teams over .500 so far, I thought a thread dedicated to the AL East Division race makes sense. Its a special Division in baseball in 2023. Better than just using "Around Baseball". Last night BAL comes back on the Yanks from 5-1 down to win 9-6. Their offense, D and pen is legit. Rutschman leading AL in BBs.
  11. I hope not. Pretty grim at the moment. Don’t want to have to count on an extended heater towards seasons end. They often still come up short like 2021. Doesn’t get easier next year in our division and we will be sans Chappy most likely. This is the time.
  12. BAL will not go away coming back to lead 9-5 after being down 5-1 against Nestor. In the AL East, every single game matters.
  13. Dam Bo has sure carried over from his strong finish 22. What an at bat.
  14. I enjoy watching Nate pitch. Promise and hope.
  15. Just too nasty after 97. Froze him up. Going through us like a buzz saw.
  16. Our winning streak is in jeopardy. Need some bats! Let’s go Jays.
  17. If he was 3-4 WAR every season you would have to be nuts not to take that.
  18. Ouch. Forgot about Colby. “This is how we roll” walk up song. Career 102 wRC+ LHH who ran into a few with two 4 WAR seasons. The K rate just kept climbing. He hit the first home run my son ever saw live in MLB at the RC on 2013 when he was 4. Hit the ROGERS sign in RF.
  19. Possible. He isn't signed past 26/27 years old, so I hope Vlad surges now. An alternative view might be the amount of leg and hand movement timing in his swing to generate that elite bat speed and EVs doesn't stand up well to age, health or conditioning issues. Its hard to say. Harper has had wildly fluctuating seasons and might go to the HOF. In his full season '16 his wRC+ was 111 but its 142 career - with 170 and 197 outliers on the high side.
  20. Great start and the offence returneth. Praise be! Let’s get on a roll!
  21. His stats this year and last are eerily crazily similar. I don't think he is hurt. I think this is who he is. 21 will be an outlier.
  22. It is what it is for LGJ. Some people dismissed him in the trade last year because the power was down (he had a hamate bone issue) and he is a 2 ish WAR player. Then some dismiss this year because its a walk year, or LGJ we all know is streaky. But 8 dingers in less than 50 gms is 3 more than all of '22. That math ain't changing hot or cold. People don't always put up better numbers in their walk year. Not automatic. Sometimes they suck - like Teo, for example, who so far this year in his walk year kind of sucks. Its possible to be ok with the trade and also accept LGJ can be a pretty useful player who may have more upside on offense than we saw.
  23. Im on a KK pink cloud right now but I dont expect this to continue whether he falls off by injury or just goes back down to earth closer to his career overall numbers. The pressure on Varsho offensively to produce is just going to build unless the big boys on the team really step up.
  24. Losing 10-11 to the AL East when healthy stings. Those close W's we blew, like the last game vs M's in that 3 game series, come back to haunt. Going to be tough to climb over all the other teams in the D, even 48 gms in. Just less games against division rivals now to make up. I get the "we just need to make it into the playoffs". Thats somewhat true but there are reasons HOU won it all in '22. Varsho reminds me more and more of LHH Grichuk at the plate. with a lot better glove. He will run into one 20 times a season. I really think Vlad, Bo and Springer are going to carry us, or not. Particularly Vlad. We need him to be Judge like. It a lot to ask. KK has been awesome but i dont expect a full season of this. New day today. Time to turn it around!!
  25. I see the Astros starting to roll and now at 27 wins after slow start.
