The Toronto Blue Jays added some depth to their bullpen Tuesday, officially recalling right-hander Chad Jenkins before Tuesday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers. The 26-year-old takes the place of Liam Hendriks, who was optioned to the minors after making two starts for Toronto.
This marks the fourth MLB stint of the season for Jenkins, who has pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs in three games. In 68.1 innings spanning three big league seasons, he has a 3.82 ERA with 4.3 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9.
Jenkins has spent most of the year at triple-A Buffalo, where he has a 4.01 ERA in 33.2 innings with 21 strikeouts and seven walks.
Hendriks started two games for the Blue Jays, posting a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings. However, the Australia native allowed many hard-hit balls, and the Blue Jays decided to add Marcus Stroman to their starting rotation instead.
