  1. Well, you can see it here, starting right now (3:30 PM EST). http://cricfree.sx/mlb-netowrk-live-stream
  2. For anyone that wants to follow and see how it goes, Jim Duquette, Kevin Millar, Rob Neyer and Brian Kenny are going to call the Astros/Giants game tonight on MLB Network. They want to see what happens if you put a former player, a former executive, and two sabermetric guys in the booth to call a game using advanced stats and analysis.
  3. Today, for the first time in baseball history, all 15 home teams won their games.
  4. This sets up the short-rest start against the Yanks, which would also allow Buehrle and Hutch to avoid that series. Good move. It could still benefit the Jays if it helps the next team the Yankees face.
  5. It's a good thing this team decided to keep Loup over Valencia. That one single pitch he's thrown since July 26 was really crucial to this team's success, especially considering he gave up an RBI single to Hosmer with it.
  6. Are you talking about this one? Because if so, I'm disappointed in your misleading hype. http://www.bttoronto.ca/videos/4411179151001/
  7. Yeah I'm not sure if you'll get it since it was sent out a few days ago, but it's still good you signed up, because you'll get any future promos they have. The Jays also regularly send out promos for their online shop. I'd give you one of the promo links they sent me but it can't be used on an email that isn't associated with that account.
  8. The Blue Jays are the #1 team in the MLB on the recently updated Baseball Prospectus Hit List. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/hitlist/ Unlike many power rankings, the Prospectus Hit List rankings are determined objectively via the Hit List Factor, an average of a team's actual winning percentage and the three Pythagenpat winning percentages from our Adjusted Standings report. The first-order winning percentage is calculated via actual runs scored and runs allowed, the second-order winning percentage uses Equivalent Runs scored and allowed, which are calculated from run components (hits, walks, total bases, stolen bases, outs, etc.) and adjusted for park and league scoring levels, and the third-order winning percentage uses Adjusted Equivalent Runs scored and allowed, which adjust the Equivalent Runs totals for the quality of each team's opponents' pitching and defense. You can find out more about how they determine Hit List ranks here: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4383
  9. "Players who do not participate in one game in the Majors before September 1 with the team's organization of the regular season will be declared ineligible for the team's 25-man active roster of the postseason and must be placed on either the restricted list or the secondary squad." I'm not really sure on how post-season roster rules work, and how the restricted list and "second squad" come into play. I do know that Matt Moore made his big league debut on September 14, 2011 and still ended up making starts in the post-season for the Rays that same year.
  10. If you're signed up for emails from mlb.com or bluejays.com, you will have received a promotional email where you can get the rest of the regular season for 50% off ($24.99) instead of paying that amount for just one month.
  11. Don't forget the Porcello extension and the Masterson signing. Those two have combined to give them 174 innings of exactly replacement level production. Masterson was just DFA'd, and Porcello is now on the DL. Another move they made, that we all thought was a smart buy-low signing, was Ogando, who's given them -0.9 fWAR out of the pen. Barnes, Castillo and JBJ have been atrocious, Bogaerts and Betts lead the team despite having league-average bats, and Swihart so far has played like a backup catcher, not a particularly good one at that. All of the Red Sox free agent signings have tanked, and their universally lauded farm system has given an extremely lack-luster first impression at the major league level.
  12. Now go take a look at Hanley's numbers.
  13. Drunk Epstein and drunk Rizzo performing drunk karaoke.
  14. If there's a way to fit Dickey into the start of all the Yankee series, they should do everything they can to achieve that. The Yankees have shown a pretty clear vulnerability to the knuckleball effect recently. They've gotten dominated by both Wright and Dickey in the span of three days, and they haven't been able to score at all in the following games.
  15. It's not too early to skip guys. The Blue Jays should do something very similar to what StewSo said in the OP, because they have four off-days over the next 15 days. If guys start showing any signs of fatigue, they can give them the rest they need with those days. The Jays have an advantage over the Yankees with 7 off-days to 4, so they should use that advantage as much as they can.
  16. I thought that was a great trade for the Jays at the time, but a lot of people here were crying about the Jays throwing away Kratz and his "80M" future value.
  17. The Jays will have four of the next fifteen days off, and another three off in September. The Yankees only have four off-days for the rest of the season. Not really a big factor, but might play a small role, especially for players that are hurting right now, like Edwin.
  18. The race for the AL East. You are on the left. http://i.imgur.com/EN017sw.gif
  19. Larry Lucchino better stay the f*** away from this team.
  20. It's a pretty big achievement to have an interaction with an O's fan and still make the dumbest comment.
  21. Why are you guys being dicks to a guy that (probably) doesn't know better? Using stats like ERA, Save % and WHIP isn't going to create a lot of discussion around here because most of us prefer to use advanced stats that tell a bigger picture. If you've actually got an openness to learning more about the game, feel free to check out the Sabermetrics thread at the top of the forum, and definitely check out http://www.fangraphs.com. FIP, WAR and wRC+ are some good stats to read up on as a beginner to sabermetrics. Just a heads up though, if you aren't willing to learn more about the game and prefer sticking to ancient statistics like ERA, you probably won't have an enjoyable experience here. If that's the case, check out BlueBirdBanter or the Blue Jays sub-reddit for more casual discussions. And for larger pictures, don't use the built-in image uploading system.
