  1. Matt Vasgersian needs to chill. With that said, brilliant play by the defense.
  2. With Davis' speed and two outs, he scores on anything past the infield walking.
  3. Professional curiosity?
  4. Hasn't played, he only got a couple of garbage minutes in game 1. I have no idea why this is the case, it's not like Ross has rediscovered himself or anything.
  5. Lowry was pretty bad today, not a good start to his season thus far. Patterson still can't make a 3. Regardless, it has been an excellent game, unfortunate that we won't be able to end up with the W. Poeltl was great today, shook off his first game jitters and put up an impressive performance in his second game. Derozan struggled early on, taking too many of his patented long 2s, but he really turned it around in the second half. Anyway, the team looks great early on, should be another fun season.
  6. I'm really loving Siakam's energy and mobility on defense and on the glass. Stereotypical comparison would be to a smaller, more mobile Biyombo but less bricky hands on offense.
  7. What the f*** happened to Joey Votto's defense though? He rated as the worst defender BY FAR by DRS and was equally terrible by UZR/150.
  8. Lol, Eric Hosmer will probably win another gold glove despite being a terrible first baseman.
  9. JV is still a monster.
  10. Derozan having a great start to his season. 40 points on really efficient shooting.
  11. Siakam and JV look great on the court right now. Love the energy from the bigs.
  12. I mean, if your supposedly top 5 prospect isn't producing >50 RBI, are they even worth keeping as org depth?
  13. Don't know if this was posted. Cecil is a total gem. http://i.imgur.com/NonqIKS.jpg
  14. He's retiring at the end of the year lol.
  15. I don't understand why people think that a reputable league like the KBO wouldn't have performance enhancing drug restrictions and suspensions for players who test positive. I know it's sort of a joke, but it comes off as ignorant in my opinion.
  16. He had foot surgery. I don't see how only missing a week or two was ever a realistic scenario.
  17. I would be all over having Jason Castro as the backup catcher. Good defense, good framing, will take walks at an above average rate and has a bit of pop. Probably as good as it gets from a realistic backup catcher IMO, assuming he doesn't get a starting gig elsewhere. Also not the worst guy you can have as the main catcher if/when Martin gets injured, or at least platooning them both if Russ is banged up.
  18. Why did you change your pic you bastard, now I can't tell if it's you or SpeedyGose posting.
  19. Uh, okay. Well, the following relievers had a higher WPA than Kenley Jansen, in that order: -Zach Britton -Andrew Miller -Sam Dyson -Mark Melancon -Jeremy Jeffress -Roberto Osuna -Aroldis Chapman -Will Harris -Seung Hwan Oh -AJ Ramos -Dan Otero -Cody Allen -Mychal Givens -Christopher Devenski -Tyler Thornburg -Mauricio Cabrera -Nate Jones -Joe Blanton -Jeurys Familia -Robbie Ross Jr. -Addison Reed Notice also the lack of Dellin Betances and Edwin Diaz in that list. I think that should speak a bit about the reliability of WPA as a better tool of measuring reliever success during a season.
  20. The problem is the argument of how valuable context can be. WAR is great in that it eliminates context from the equation, just tells you how valuable the pitcher was, whether it was pitching 5-8 innings at a time, mopping up the mess from other starters or closing out critical games/pitching in almost exclusively high leverage. WPA and other similar context-based stats will tell you how much value the pitcher contributed when put into different indexes of leverage. This is where closers and similarly elite relievers will get a huge boost, because they usually pitch in the more valuable, game-changing high leverage situations. Now, I don't know if any one of them is better than the other, a combination of both will probably be the optimal use here. However, something to consider is that a top tier reliever's WPA will basically be artificially boosted because they are generally inserted into the most important situations in a game. They got through that inning or that batter, which is great, but who's to say that a Joe Biagini couldn't have done that job more times than not rather than pitching the lower leverage mop up/trying to keep the lead/deficit to a max/min? This is how a guy like Zach Britton can have a higher WPA than every single American League pitcher, and every Nationa League pitcher, including Clayton Kershaw and other elite starters. Shouldn't that point to a flaw in context based stats? I think that's where we have to consider how much to take from each.
