The majority of NBA fans believe Irving to be the best guard in the Eastern Conference because he made a 3 one time while riding LeBron's coattails like every other player has. Most would probably take Irving over Curry, the latter is seen as the biggest choker in history apparently. NBA fans are really stupid.

That's not as bad as it could have been, though Trumbo at his best was still only a 2.2 win outfielder. Unless the Orioles rightfully play him at first where he won't be bleeding as many defensive runs there's still some downside to the deal. They could be paying a 1 win player a tad over $12 million.

The largest factor in making this deal is 100% Jose Bautista the player versus the remaining free agent options, don't kid yourself. If the deal was about optics they wouldn't have waited until January 2017 to sign Bautista, needless options and incentives aside. Sure maybe they added some fluff so it makes them look better to the public, but this signing is all about how Jose can help the Blue Jays in 2017 and possibly beyond.

Javier Baez is literally better than Ryan Goins at every facet of the game, but that's not saying much.

I don't mean to twist your words, but actually I think on paper he's the perfect fit. It is well known that all of the guys you listed have shaky injury histories. In the event of a 15 day DL stint to Travis or JD, I'm much more comfortable seeing Valbuena's name in the lineup card over Goins or Barney (who's great too but he won't hit as well as last season). He provides excellent depth in the scenario where everyone is healthy, with the chance to platoon at 1B or perhaps LF if he's capable while allowing us to play an average player at positions where we're thin if top players go down.

He's been substantially better against RHP so he'd be the strong side of a 1B platoon if necessary. Could also play multiple positions like everyone else has suggested (either giving JD or Travis a day off every now and then or taking over in the event of an extended injury). Also, I don't understand why he projects to be a league average hitter despite being rather comfortably above over the past 3 seasons, where I think it's safe to say is when he started becoming a much better hitter by finally tapping into his power - pulling everything into the air to great results. Despite the lowly projections on his offense, they still view him as an average player and will likely be making less than $10 million per year, as a player that is quite versatile that could be very beneficial to the Blue Jays.

I'm sure it's not too hard for billion dollar company Rogers to put Shapiro and/or Atkins on a plane to the DR where they could discuss this face to face, not delaying anything.

Man can this deal just be made official already? The longer it goes without an announcement being made the more I fear that there was a hiccup along the way and the two sides could not come to an agreement, leaving us with a 20+ page case of blue balls.

He's also a huge injury risk. The deal could also look terrible in hindsight if he becomes, say like a version of Daniel Hudson.

You couldn't possibly have compared two players more different than R.A. Dickey and Andrew McCutchen.

Are you surprised that the bullpen might have performed worse than normal when an excellent reliever like Cecil went down? You're grasping at straws here bro. It's also pretty apparent from the acquisitions of Grilli, Benoit, Bolsinger etc. that the FO recognizes if there's a problem with the BP and will find a cost effective way to address the issue.

Grilli and Benoit (who was only just okay) were acquired for practically nothing. Chavez who was garbage was traded for Bolsinger. Acquiring decent BP arms is still not that hard, elite relievers are a different ballpark but we have a pretty good one in Osuna.

Furthermore, a "bad" BP didn't hurt us in the ALCS, it was poor performance from our bats largely due to excellent execution on the part of Indians pitchers

That's fine, but then how can you say it's been weak when factoring the context of the team's position entering the offseason? It's not like they've been idle and it appears as though they are aware of the holes, but there's only so much you can do. Say you trade Estrada for Dyson, then we're left with a hole in the rotation; spend a lot of prospect capital on acquiring older and expiring vets and we're back at square one. Sure it might be weak if you expected another Donaldson-esque fleecing, but that's not very realistic. Can you elaborate on why you believe it's been a weak offseason if you agree with their moves to date?

What would you have done differently? The team made what ultimately ended up being Edwin's highest offer, maybe they could have waited for longer and then they might've had a chance, but no one could have predicted what happened and maybe we would have neither EE nor Morales. You can't force Fowler or Reddick to sign here, and for their price with a pick attached it might be for the best not to have them. Chapman or Kenley? Lol at that being a possibility. Beltran came at a hefty price IMO, Holliday was better but we don't know how much he would've wanted to play here, if he even considered Toronto an option. So yeah, what exactly could the front office have done differently to have made this offseason stronger?
