Clutch isn't a real thing. He's hit well overall, that's what matters. And yes, we mostly did pay him a lot of money to be an elite defensive catcher with average offense. He's earned every penny of his contract up to this point, and much more.
Batting average doesn't mean a whole lot though. More importantly is that he's still still getting on base at a very good rate, and he's hitting for pretty good power when he puts the ball into play. Combine that with his elite defense and his handling of the pitching staff and Russ has been fantastic for us.
I mean, it hasn't really been close lol. The Jays have just been timely with their hits and Latos is getting pretty lucky. Doesn't help that the Cards are booting the ball around.
