    Wisler was tried out as a reliever last year and he was somehow even worse than as a starter. Definitely the right way to go though, they've already done the same with Lorenzen and Amir Garrett.

    People are upset (I'm assuming) because they think Osuna was moved solely for PR reasons and assume that they sold low. The likely reality is, the Jays were probably entertaining moving him for some time and this domestic violence case gave them the perfect excuse to explore offers without backlash from the general fanbase and the league as a whole. It's hard to explain why you traded your young star closer who's a fan favourite while the team is retooling, much easier to do so with Osuna's present situation.

    What a pile of trash on both sides lol. I guess I like it for the Reds since Sims has been decent in AAA as has been Wisler and both are young enough to maybe figure something out.

    You don't think the subsequent DL trips was an indicator that they were perhaps not playing completely healthy? Donaldson could barely lob the ball over to first base.

    He also has a better career FIP, xFIP, FIP-, xFIP-, SIERA, and the same ERA-. Even when accounting for muh AL East he's been better across the board. I'm glad he has the potential to be elite, because if that's not what elite looks like then watch out league.

    Why are we also just ignoring the fact that Osuna is likely a big injury risk? He's had TJS before, and despite posting excellent numbers as a starter in the minors was converted full time to relief and never looked back. Remember last season when he had a stretch where he was barely able to crack 95?

    Giles already is elite lol. His career ERA/FIP/xFIP is 2.72/2.25/2.82, he's 5th in swinging strike percentage for relievers since 2014, he has filthy stuff.

    Tbh Perez is probably a future Giles, relievers like him are valuable but all it takes is one guy with crazy stuff figuring out how to command their stuff for an inning at a time. Giles could command a valuable position player or MLB pitcher who could help us if the team is competitive in the next couple of seasons.

    It's not because he's a headcase, most of us don't really care about that because he's elite. The reason some are suggesting moving him is because he's a high end closer, the Jays are not contending right now which means they'd be wasting him, and we could probably get excellent value out of him in a trade.

    I think you're pushing it a bit. Yes Osuna definitely had higher value, but those guys are probably close to untouchable for the Astros.

    Using "spare prospects" without maximizing their trade value is how you lose Gleyber Torres for a half season rental that you don't re-sign. This isn't the worst deal the Astros have made but it's barely an upgrade on Giles and the prospects they gave up aren't nothing.

    The hot takes in the coming hours/days are going to be awful but on the surface this looks like a great trade.
