  1. Zack Wheeler went from "not sure if it's worth it to sign him at 4/72 + losing a second round pick" to 5 years over $100M plus the pick attached. His agent did very well for him and this offseason has been crazy, a far cry from the last couple.
  2. AJ Burnett from 2006-2007 pitched 301 innings with a 3.85 ERA (85 ERA-), 4.09 FIP (91 FIP-), 5.2 fWAR, 6.3 RA9-WAR. If literally anyone in our rotation had done that for a single season, or was projected to do that next season they would be by far our best starter.
  3. Barry Zito signed a 7/126 deal in the 2006 offseason and this guy is talking about how Burnett was an expensive signing "in 2006 dollars" lmao.
  4. Also approximately equal RA-9 WAR so it's not like his ERA was vastly worse. Shocking thing to say.
  5. Lol @ the Marlins being a better org than the Orioles.
  6. Addison Russell is coming nowhere near this team, come on Abom.
  7. I like the fit as well but I think the mid rotation upside ship has sailed for him. He never ate innings and at his best was only a 2.5 win starter. If he's being non-tendered his arm is probably cooked so I would have extremely low expectations.
  8. Good front offices lose/get poached of valuable personnel all the time, this obviously isn't ideal but if the FO is any good then the expectation should be that someone just as valuable will take their place.
  9. They could do worse there than Galvis, although it's certainly an area of upgrade. I don't entirely understand why they're so deadset on Senzel as a CF, but you would think he can easily slide into that hole and then they could swing a deal for an actual CF or sign a guy like Shogo Akiyama or maybe Gardner or Puig.
  10. Not necessarily. They have Phegley as their only backup C and he's pretty bad, so Allen could make the team out of ST, if not he has two options remaining.
  11. Somehow fangraphs acquired Roster Resource already has Moustakas penciled in to the Reds' lineup lol. That is very impressive. The Reds' lineup is rock solid. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/reds
  12. I guess this means he's a 2B going forward? Interesting for a guy who was once a plus defender at third but he got his money so no one is going to care about this.
  13. Now this is stupid lol. They must believe Allen isn't actually a catcher, because if he ends up sticking behind the plate this is a brutal deal for a guy they should have acquired practically for free.
  14. I agree with the first point but on the second, France didn't show very much in his MLB appearance despite his gaudy AAA numbers - all of his peripherals got significantly worse - while Profar is only a year older and ostensibly has more versatility around the infield and projects better. I don't think the Padres will sweat Profar's projected $5.8M arb salary even if their ambitions are high in the FA market.
  15. This was probably a good acquisition regardless, their only 2B after trading away Urias was the ancient Ian Kinsler so this is a good buy low on their part to address that hole which they created.
  16. Davis is fantastic by all means, a real gem uncovered by our scouting department and testament to our player development, but I wonder how much team effects are coming into play here. I'm surprised Ja Morant rates out THAT poorly even though the majority of his negative contributions are on defense which is understandable for a rookie. But still, for him to not be above some of the players who rate out better than him is questionable and makes me wonder if their model is punishing him for being on the floor with lesser players, unlike Davis and the Heat rookies.
  17. Well the Jazz certainly got the message. They haven't missed in the third quarter, and the effort level from both teams has flipped entirely.
  18. Just an fyi, I think someone cut Cal Mitchell instead of Mitch White from me here. Cal currently sits as an FA whereas White shows up on my farm. Can someone confirm this so I can add the former without looking like I'm doing something shady?
  19. I think Gibson at 3/30 is a very good deal but if our "premium" to sign him was anywhere in the 3/40-45 range or an additional year for same AAV then I don't think he would have been worth it necessarily. I doubt Gibson took a huge discount to go to Texas, so the market dictated that 3/30 was a fair deal for him and perhaps we should adjust our evaluation as well.
  20. Jesus Christ.
  21. Lmao, if the Orioles non-tender Jonathan Villar fire everyone in their FO into the sun.
  22. Honestly with how contracts are looking this offseason and the benefit of hindsight I think 3/45 for Gibson would have been terrible. Maybe 2/30 but an additional year + $15M would have been too much.
  23. The Rangers are slowly building a very good, cheap, dependable rotation. They'll have Gibson, Minor and Lynn next season at something like $30M combined, with Gibson and Lynn also under contract for 2021 at similar AAV.
  24. I would say that Davies and Lauer are similarly talented, but the latter has substantially more team control so yeah I'd say he's far more valuable. Prospects wise Urias was rated much higher than Grisham as well so it's a pretty puzzling deal for the Padres.
