  1. It would be great if he can make it back this year and do anything of value for the team. I doubt that will be the case. I don't think he is eligible to come off the DL until at least 7/03. They might think of him as another McGowan in the sense that he's had injuries, some of them somewhat flukeish, but he's young and still has a lot of potential so they might pick up that expensive option for him next year. There is still time for him to come back this year and contribute but it seems like if it's not one thing it's another with him. He's feast or famine. If he can come back and help out, it's a big plus, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd love for him to come back and pick up where he left off a few years ago before the oblique injury but anything he can contribute in a positive way to this team is literally better than what he's doing now.
  2. It's annoying enough to have a strange zone. It's downright infuriating when it's strange, inconsistent, one guy gets a beneficial call while the other one doesn't. Ugh.
  3. Hopefully, after at least the 10 day minimum (probably longer) he finds himself again. His control has disappeared and if you can't locate the plate you're not going to get too many people swinging over your split.
  4. If this is correct than between $5,000-7,000 over a 5 month period: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20140212/minor-league-baseball-players-lawsuit/
  5. This has been bugging me for a little bit today so I'll ask the wisdom of the board to help me out. Normally if a player has a contract with an option (team, player, mutual) and the option is declined, they become a free agent. What if the player has less than the 6 years required for free agency and an option gets declined? Do they become a free agent or are they still under team control and/or arbitration eligible depending on service time? Example: Santos will have 5 years of service at the end of this year if I read the numbers correctly. The Jays have 3 options on him. If they (and it seems likely they will for a number of factors) decline his option for next year, he'll get his buyout but will he still be under team control and eligible for arbitration since he only has 5 years of service in or does he become a free agent? Does it depend on the language in the contract or since he'll have 5 years in and be a "veteran" he'll have the option of sticking around for arbitration or electing free agency?
  6. I should have known that. Maybe it was the shock that I wasn't in shock over such a move.
  7. Why aren't they going to just let Stroman start? They have enough long relievers they don't use in the pen and why mess with something that's been successful so far, at least in the minors, with him starting? While they're at it they should call Nolin up and put Happless back in the pen hoping he might cry enough that he'll demand to be let go.
  8. The "ace" gives up a lead off hit with a 4 run lead so he has to pull him and go to the pen and the guy he said was going to be available to close tonight. Then he lets him cough up the lead. And like the image says
  9. Either that or AA is keeping him down in the minors to keeps his stats looking good so he can trade him, and probably more, for another NL pitcher who won't have anywhere near the success he had in the NL and walk to FA or breakdown.
  10. I'd rather not mess with success. He's had that at least in Buffalo. The rotation is horrible right now. If he can come up, have success, eat up innings it'll take the strain off the pen and we won't have to see some of the gas cans. Maybe he spends some time in the pen later on if he's on a innings limit but if they bring him up I'd rather see him start and see what happens after a few starts.
  11. I'm following the game on MLB Gameday so it could be wrong, but is Morrow throwing just fastballs and sliders? It's claiming everything is either a slider or FB.
  12. Me! But seriously, that's kind of my point. AA didn't really go and get some depth for the MIF when over the past few years we've always needed someone at some time (Reyes going down, 2B always being an issue). Easier said than done I know. Going into the year 2B was a huge question mark and it seemed like they just ignored it thinking Goins would be it.
  13. Hopefully he puts it together and soon. It seems like when he's in a slump he's horrible. It scares me since Gose hasn't made any waves and if Rasmus continues to struggle odds are he won't be back and might have a low trade value especially since another team couldn't qualify him (thought at about $14M probably more, I doubt anyone would unless he gets hot). He seemed to have a fairly decent year last year. He's always seemed to strike out a lot. He's still young and has some power. Hopefully he breaks out of it. I very well could be wrong but this seems like an organizational issue. Whether the players come via trade, FA signing (only a few have so far), brought up through the minors, etc. they seem to struggle and it seems the coaching staff is either incompetent, doesn't care or ignores it. He'll leave the Jays and watch him wind up better. I'm a bit biased since I like him but he needs to break out of it. Hopefully he's like Buehrle last year, having a horrendous start and finishing decent. We're screwed if he doesn't put it together since we're out of a CF, Melky is a FA at years end, Gose doesn't seem like he's put it together too (again could be coaching/development since they had him change his approach a few years ago to try and hit for more power and his average dropped but he still strikes out a ton) and we know how the Jays are when it comes to filling holes.
  14. That's what I've seen so far. Considering how bad that looked and how much pain he was in he lucked out big time.
  15. Yet another pretty much useless middle IF recalled too. Does AA never get the idea of solid depth is something more than just filling spots with guys it's actually having guys that might make a difference? Easier said than done but he doesn't seem to learn. I just hope Gose gets playing time and doesn't just rot on the bench. Give him a shot while he's up and see if he can do anything.
  16. As long as he doesn't panic and do something stupid like put someone on waivers in the minors when we could remove Sierra and open up both a 25 and 40 man spot. But can't just sit idle with two guys questionable especially with how much pain Melky was in.
  17. Did they seriously just pinch hit Thole for Diaz's spot when that might have been a much better idea with the wiffer Sierra up with men on?
  18. I think AA is taking the desperate gambling addict's approach with Sierra where he's convinced that if he cuts him he'll instantly turn into the next Bautista just like a gambler will think the next time they don't play their numbers they'll come out and they would have blown their $50 million shot. At least some of the players this team has let go had some level of talent. Sierra looks like a little leaguer right now.
  19. It's probably (more than likely) been said before but for a team that was going "all in" they hired a guy who only could get a job in the minors? You'd think they would have found someone with more experience especially with a roster that has the talent and post season expectations. Granted there aren't many people who can be managers like that but somewhere there could have been someone with better skill sets. Some of the moves he's made this year have been questionable and come back to bite the team big time. Could be the hindsight bias on my part but you'd think they would have gone after someone who's been to the post season, managed established guys etc. You fire someone because you don't think they're right for the team and what you're trying to do then bring the same guy back just doesn't make a lot of sense. I could be clueless here.
  20. If you're on release waivers you can reject a claim if a team claims you. You can also accept it if you wish. The Jays claimed someone on release waivers a couple seasons ago who wound up being released by the Jays. The catch is it has to be release waivers since most of the time if you're on release waivers (which is a formality to release someone) it's by request of the player ie wants out of the organization, won't accept an outright assignment and can reject a claim because you want to be released and chose where you want to go, if you want to play rather than wind up somewhere you don't want to be.
  21. That line would be comical if it weren't true. I'm still amazed at it. I think they've literally found every way possible to lose a game.
  22. Better than a double play. Trying to look at the positive.
