He'd have to show up in the middle of a game, drunk, naked, and rolling around on the infield shouting racial slurs before they'd fire him.
They might be giving him a chance to see what his game plan might be. He refused to part with some of the younger guys (the few who are left) and see if he can make something happen in the FA market. What's left to trade is really our depth and last prospects standing. Maybe they'll say here's your bed, lie in it for now. If they suck out loud next year then maybe they'll toss him and bring someone in after MB contract is off the books, RA might get the option declined etc.
I can applaud him for not dealing guys off the 25-man roster like Hutch (though I'd deal him for the right package) or Stro, Sanchez, but there are still needs to be met and the team came so close this year that something has to be done or he's gone for sure next year.
