  1. The downside to it is if they want Upton as a late inning fielding replacement he has to replace Bautista's bat and place in the lineup rather than Saunders. Upton in the PR-DH role for Saunders is just a waste of a spot. Other than that the line-up and roster is about as good as it can be.
  2. I like how 2 of the top 3 are relievers. Imagine if that happened nowadays.
  3. Make sure you screen capture it and reactions ad nauseam because it absolutely will not last very long.
  4. I do not like this choice, but not enough to get particularly upset about it. We'll see tomorrow if it works out. And Stroman has a poor outing and the Jays lose....fire the lot of them.
  5. Every year it's the same old thing. Mike Trout gets snubbed for the MVP award and members of this board blow a gasket over it. No one here gives two shits about Mike Trout since no one here personally knows him. It's all about the opportunity to rail against baseball writers for being dumb old hillbillies who don't accept advanced stats, or that MVP = triple crown winner no matter how bad the defense, or who have this strange hybrid definition of MVP = good player on a contending team. If you hate the system so much, go get a journalism degree, work your way up the ladder in a sports media outlet and in 10 years you'll get a vote. Personally I hope Donaldson wins it because I'm an unabashed homer. But I doubt it'll be him after the last month so it'll be Trout or one of the evil Boston players, and I have absolutely no emotional attachment to either outcome.
  6. This sounds exactly like the type of irrelevant s*** I hear from sports betting message boards when obsessed dummies who can't live without skipping a game they can't really handicap need something to justify betting on one side or the other.
  7. He's not the leader in wins, but is the leader in win % in the MLB. That should help his cause a bit.
  8. Funny, because it feels like I've aged a year since Ubaldo took apart the hitters a few days ago.
  9. Given that you can reset the rosters after the wild card, I'd have Liriano starting with Stroman piggybacking and Estrada as the extra innings standby. Six relievers and 16 position players. Pompey and Goins both make a bench that deep. Then it's a toss up whether you want Smoak or Thole in for whatever limited strengths they bring to the table.
  10. We always have Texas for that. With the wild card game one-and-done you need to be thinking like an NFL football coach, maximizing your chances of winning for just this one game. Gibbons needs to be pulling some Bill Belichick s*** right here.
  11. Let's hope Gibbons is reading this thread so all of these facts are known. Well Shapiro is leading the ship now so I would expect this information will be relayed to Gibbons. f***, I just really wish he wasn't in charge of these decisions.
  12. So consensus leans toward Liriano. I'm not sure about that, calling him the "new guy". Liriano is the poor man's Price this year. And Price would have been the obvious choice last year if the Jays were in the wild card game. Now granted Liriano isn't quite the name and doesn't have nearly the success of Price but he is the most veteran and by many accounts most successful starter with the most playoff experience this team has. Liriano is a sensible choice. If he walks 5 through 2 and they leave him in there to stink it up, then sure, I'm going to question it. But there's no reason going into this game, given Liriano's recent performance and the need to neutralize someone like Chris Davis, that this is a bad choice. I wouldn't second-guess Gibbons on that one, even if other people would should the team lose.
  13. You're going to have to put some limits on that, like someone who has pitched at least 30 starts for the team. Because every crappy pitcher from Alvarez to Zambrano currently qualifies under this definition and all of us could ring off at least a dozen equally horrifying names.
  14. *Waits for a smug comment from jimcanuck*
  15. 8-0 Jays win on Tuesday will save many heart attacks
  16. Here we go!!!! Bring on the Orioles!!!! #AnyoneButUbaldo
  17. Need to add in Liriano and subtract Sanchez from this poll. Or maybe wait a few hours to see who Gibbons picks. Liriano would be my preference out of him, Stroman and Estrada assuming Happ is out as well.
  18. People make fun of the guy and bash Gibbons for putting him lead off (rightfully so), but he's not the reason why the Jays have been struggling on offense. He's been doing about as well as we can possibly expect.
  19. Jays are winning 8-0 against the O's that game. Won't need him.
  20. Assumed it was a knock against Ortiz, ignored it.
  21. 1-0 lead in the 7th...a chance the 7th spot doesn't come up again in this game. I really care more about the defense.
  22. I would have preferred to keep Upton in the game for defense...
  23. Praying that Gibby's fat ass stays glued to that seat and lets Sanchez complete this game. If they lose 2-1 I'd rather let Sanchez be the one to give up the runs than one of the boneheads in the bullpen.
  24. Let's hope it doesn't even matter! Jays in clean, Detroit and Baltimore play for the final spot.
