  1. I feel like people are sleeping on Kluber. He got hit with a comebacker and broke a bone and then had an oblique injury. This year he had a Teres muscle strain. There were no surgeries. These injuries are typically very recoverable. It's not like he has a ton of major arm issues. He could be a very cheap gamble. Tie in a second year option and the risk reward scenario might look pretty tempting if the dollars are low enough. What is Kluber going to get? Does he even get one year 10 mil?
  2. An article predicting 6 140 for Stroman would have had to have been pre-covid and the article would have most certainly have to have been written by Stroman. Given Covid and Injuries I think Paxton is in life for less than what Ryu got. Next year's free agent pitching is really strong as well. I would love to get Paxton if the price was right.
  3. If he had any other agent(advisor) they would have said take slot start your career and get to free agency as soon as possible. Boras is an unreasonable prick at times. That said, we've more than mended fences with Boras. We signed Ryu, paid monetary penalties to the max to give Martin an over slot offer and Paxton has a Maple leaf tattooed on his forearm. If we can't lure him to Toronto with the best offer, we're in trouble.
  4. JP Richardi was our GM the year Paxton was drafted. I find it hard to believe he holds a grudge from 11 years ago. Also it was Beeston making comments to the globe and mail about the difficulties of dealing with Scott Boras to the media and the NCAA caught hold of this. At the time you were allowed a family advisor but not an agent and the NCAA ruled him ineligible for his final year. The reality is Scott Boras was a pain in the ass. He asked for way too much and said to the player, you're a late 1st round pick..a great year at college and you'll be a top 10 pick and I can get you triple the money. Paxton should have been a Jay. Worked out great for him eventually going to Seattle so he was close to his family.
  5. I hope so, but the Dodgers are ridiculous.
  6. that was a great game
  7. Rays are starting Glasnow who threw 93 pitches in game 2.....now that's a bold move.
  8. The Rays are everything that is wrong with the game because they don't buy championships. Ok. Reverse that statement and it would be more accurate. Let's cheer against the team that's done the most with the least. Teams aren't going to spend less because the Rays drafted well and traded for guys who nobody wanted. Most teams could have afforded Charlie Morton. The Yankees have 27 championships and more recently they haven't won their championships on a level playing field. KC won a championship. Teams didn't spend less after that. They just started over paying relievers! I could care less if a bunch of arrogant Yankee fans choose not to watch the world series because they Yankees are out.
  9. yeah...that 1 and 1 pitch was a bad swing. He got two balls after that but he was protecting the plate. The catch by Bellinger was great, but the ball was hit to the deepest part of the park. Bad luck for the Padres tonight..I thought they deserved this one.
  10. would you rather have the Yankees or the Astros there? f*** the Yankees....Go Rays!
  11. That would be a hilarious turn of events after they fought it out over when he would be a free agent. I'd still rather target Justin Turner. My initial thought was he'd just resign, but given Seager is a free agent next year and Bellinger the year after that combined with Turner's age there may be a shot. I could see the Dodgers in on Bauer as well. Bit of a long shot, but if the Dodgers don't decide to resign him we should be all over Turner for a short term deal. I still think Paxton might be a great play for pitching. The injury risk is immense, but the discount could be tempting. We rolled the injury dice with Ryu. One year in, albeit in a short season, he didn't miss a start.
  12. 2022 free agent pitchers Syndergaard, Zach Davies, McCullers, Jon Gray, Dylan Bundy.....but then the old guard. Pay me for short term, I'm still damn good. Kershaw, Scherzer, Greinke, Verlander, Lynn and Kluber if he somehow gets over his injury problems and has a good season next year could join the list. 2022 has a lot of intriguing starting pitchers. It's kind of why I think the Jays have a shot at Bauer this year. Given Covid, the impending free agents next year and the challenges that come with "the Bauer hour" personality, the Jays have a shot. We have to promise him 4 to 7 extra starts. How is that going to go over with your team? Pearson and Ryu are both guys who can use extra days. You add Bauer and you sign another vet or two who are on board. I don't see a fit with the Yankees. I could see the Red Sox as being in on Bauer though. I don't think he fits with the Dodgers. The phillies, Angels, Twins and Mets could be in. I don't think Washington will be in. Bauer's market is going to be interesting for sure.
  13. I'm curious what people think Lindor's asking price would be. It's still going to be pretty high. Where are Bauer's potential landing spots?
  14. The offseason seems pretty straight forward. Sign Bauer. Trade for Lynn once you've signed Bauer. Sign Hendricks or Colome. It's probably not that easy though..lol.
  15. When Rowdy puts up a 140+ wRC+ next year you can take your 1.5 WAR and shove it where the sun don't shine! Defensively he's an above 1st baseman to go along with that bat. You'd think "recency bias" would have some merit when you're talking about a young developing player who meaningfully cut his strike out rate and had his walk rate tick up. We're also talking about a player with a very good swing and a ton of power. Why would the Jay believe in Gruchuk and his ability to take it to the next level when he's been in the league for 7 years. I'd say we have a pretty good handle on what Grichuk is.
  16. I'd rather trade Grichuk and keep Rowdy. Rowdy is just scratching the surface and he's cheap. His walk rate ticked up, his strike out rate went down huge. He only had a .276 Babip and he's an above average 1st baseman defensively. What if Vlad just isn't a good defender. I'd rotate the 2 through the Dh and first base position.
  17. Ryu likes extra days of Rest and Pearson doesn't have a lot of innings behind him. The Jays are actually ideally built to bring in a Bauer and give him extra starts. That would be a complete deviation from their ultra cautious mentality though.
  18. oddly enough in a shortened season Teoscar graded out as an average right fielder. His arm really is a weapon that balances out some of his other deficiencies.
  19. Turner is perfect. He's likely going to get a 2 year deal plus an option. I don't see any scenario in which the Dodgers don't resign him and I assume the same for Lemahieu and the Yankees. La Stella is interesting, but he might want more years than I would be willing to commit.
  20. I find Paxton an interesting case. When you factor in Covid and what it did to revenues and Paxton's injury risk, I'm very interested in what his market looks like.
  21. Shaw's a stop gap to Martin or Groshans. I don't think they are going to sign Didi so he's a decent stopgap. I'm pretty sure Martin and Groshans will start in the minors next year. I'm not sure what Shaw's arb number will be, but I don't believe it will be that high. Anderson's 9.5 mil can go towards paying Bauer or Paxton.
  22. Why would they pick up Anderson's option? I actually think they will tender Shaw a contract. They tendered Drury a contract.
  23. They don't start games over in the playoffs.....it resumes at the point of stoppage.
  24. now what does a guy watch on TV......
