  1. I don't know if what Olney said (about MLB talent) holds much merit. Nationals have a lot of contracts coming off next year (and I mean like 70% of their MLB roster). They aren't remotely close to putting together a team of starters who can net ~ 2 WAR per year to smell a WC spot and they have a meh farm as is. Why would they want a haul of MLB-ready talent or already-in MLB talent (unless they want to flip) and start their service time (especially with Corbin/Strasburg contracts still kicking)? Nationals should predominantly be looking for prospects with a lot of upside but are still 2 yrs away. They want one or two low-risk, high-ceiling assets so they can start rebuilding their franchise and then a healthy pool of high-risk, average-floor assets. Get some 1 or 2-yr contracts for their MLB roster from FA next year, flip whoever does well for more prospect capital - this also lets you sell the club to prospect buyers who will have a low-salary club with decent profit margins. They could add Corbin's contract to the deal as well to make the club enticing to a new buyer. I don't see them going for more than two top-100 prospects/in-MLB talent with a lot of control and pre-arb until 2024/2025, which most teams can provide, and then a lot of good fodder. On our end, ya, we have just a strong as bait as any of the other teams in Moreno & Tiedemann, both are pieces you can build your team around - a very athletic and smart player with good bat-to-ball skills & a budding above-average starter (a Bo & Manoah, if you will) If Soto requires more than that/Nats want more than that, I feel you'd need longer talks because you need to add the stipulation that Soto signs long-term - and that's a shitshow for offseason not trade deadline where you are trying to fix holes, not necessarily get generational talent and leave yourself with glaring issues for postseason. Imagine if we sold most of our tradeable prospects for Soto and then had nothing to get high-end relief/pitching depth, y'all would be giddy for like the first 2 days and then start screaming at Atkins for not doing a better job
  2. Holy s***, he did it.
  3. Soto with the upset? Need 4 in a minute

  6. Round 10: Ian Churchill; Lefty pitcher no clue on his details https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=church002ian
  7. Jays round 9: Devereaux Harrison Harrison pitched very well out of the Dirtbags bullpen in 2020 and '21, saving 10 games and striking out better than 11 per nine in the latter year. His '22 wasn't as consistent, but he did show off a 90-95 mph fastball that has some darting action to it, as well as a low-80s split change and a slider thrown around 78-83 mph. He'll need to find more consistency with his secondary stuff, but scouts love the way he competes out of the bullpen.
  8. 8th Round Pick: Dylan Rock RHB OF .336 BA, 11 HRs; another contact guy
  9. Peyton Williams is Round 7 pick: LHB Though his well above-average raw power is his carrying tool, Williams also makes consistent contact, controls the strike zone and uses the entire field. A 6-foot-5, 250-pound left-handed hitter whose strength stands out more than his bat speed, he hit .335/.464/.622 with 13 homers in 54 games this spring. He has limited athleticism and must maintain his conditioning to remain at first base.
  10. Mason Fluharty, another nobody underslot 14 K/9 last year, ++ cutter, +curve, mid 90s fastball LHRP
  11. Jays take Ryan Jennings - RHRP low-mid 90s, T99, funky arm delivery
  12. Yup Texas took Brock Porter, probably the only team with the slot money for him considering they have no picks in 2/3
  13. Our pick was Alan Roden (Lefty OF); 55-hit tool, contact/AVG hitter with more walks than Ks. --- Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 45 | Arm: 45 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40 After redshirting at Creighton in 2019 and playing just three games during the shortened season in 2020, Roden won Big East Conference freshman of the year honors in 2021 and shared the league's player of the year award this spring. He turned down interest from pro teams a year ago because he wanted to complete his physics degree in 2022, when he has again put up big numbers and established himself as one of the top contact hitters in the Draft. He batted .387/.492/.598 and ranked first in NCAA Division I in BB/K ratio (3.6) and second in strikeout rate (3 percent). Roden has elite bat-to-ball skills and does a nice job of using the entire field while masterfully controlling the strike zone, with outstanding rates of swings and misses (9 percent, including just 4 percent on fastballs) and chases (15 percent). There is a divergence of opinion as to how he'll fare in pro ball because he operates out of an open stance with a deep crouch and a high back elbow. His biggest supporters point to his exit velocities and hitting prowess and believe he'll be able to add more loft to his left-handed swing to provide 15-20 homers per season, while some scouts question whether he'll offer enough pop to profile as a regular. He also performed well with wood bats in the New England Collegiate League last summer. Roden is opportunistic on the bases despite fringy speed and swiped 28 bags in 29 attempts in the NECBL. He gets the job done at first base with decent range and hands. He has seen some action on the outfield corners for the Bluejays and may have enough range and arm strength to play there at the next level.
  14. Starting lineup for AL: Ohtani > Judge > Devers > Vlad > Stanton > Buxton > Anderson > Gimenez > Kirk
  15. Farrell is on record saying they are prepared to sign both players (Barriera & Toman) and don't see much difficulty In fact, with Toman saying he's ready to get his medicals out of the way in 2 days and sign the contract (that his dad was happy with), and get to Dunedin/start training by next week - he has to be as good as signed even going 77th. Farrell said they had a group of guys that they were interested in should they drop to 23. I think Toman was more or less a 77th pick by the Jays irrespective and was decided long-before draft night. TL;DR Don't see any of this being reactionary because Barriera fell through. They were definitely using 23rd pick for a high-risk player to fall from higher up the draft, and had the plan to overslot the picks.
  16. McGrath put a proposal out for the Athletic that the Jays could do, if traded by the deadline: Jays get Soto and Corbin Nationals get Moreno, Tiedemann, Pearson, Martinez, Groshans Jays get starter depth this way & some flexibility to flip Teo or Gurriel for bullpen arms.
  17. lol he wanted to go to college rather than play for any other baseball team. Come on down Toman.
  18. I am so hyped for Barriera especially with the success we've had in A ball this year for pitching development. Love that they pulled the trigger on him.
  19. Cade Doughty... Would've liked pitching lol
  20. lol AA continues the trend: baby-faced HS pitcher x 3
  21. Rays going for more bloop+speed players
