You think having little talent in the upper minors isn't a problem ?

What really is the worst possible scenario in 2014 is that we are 6 or so games out at the trade deadline and AA guts what is left in the minors going for it and while we play meaningful games in Sept still fall short . we either need to be in first place (highly unlikely ) or very close and leading the WC or we have to do the gut job and rebuild . Trouble with our upper management after this dismal year is they know they have to win or else . That makes for desperate moves that can hurt us for years

Improve the defense and the rotation gets much better . Our defense was terrible last year and that took a toll on our pitching . Start with Ruiz , add a Cahill , then look to add an LF and 2nd Baseman

Why would the Cards trade Lynn ,They have the deepest minor leagues ,lack nothing at the majors they can't fill from below and have tons of young pitching with options and lynn is still cheap. Cahill isn't cheap for what the snakes can afford and he is a ground ball pitcher that has been durable . No not a 1or 2 but who is that is available to a team with little to trade

I,m all over Ruiz as I agree MCCann is not likely going to come here . You can never have enough pitching but whatever we add we lose some to waivers . Yes we could send guys with options down but some of them are the better pitchers . I don't know who guys think we could get better than Cahill unless thet gut the minors again and I refuse to do that .

I totally agree Sil . other than having Morrow up at #2 till he gets hurt if he even starts the season . I see only 1 guy coming in and Cahill makes the most sense . I would hope to have Happ and Hutch and Drabek at AAA with one of Rogers or Redmond winning the 5th spot and the other winning the long man spot in the BP . As far as Big name FA,s I'm not going to hold my breath . Firmly believe it won't happen but I do really want Ruiz . I would overpay to the tune of giving him 3 years if that is what it took

Going to be an interesting offseason . I doubt AA says anything important . Not his style . doubt we evev are in on Tanaka cause AA never went to scout him and he always had done so previously. I think your AZ deal is the most likely Sil. BTW ,Good luck this weekend two very good teams battling it out and it is your turn. -

I firmly believe they shop both McCarthy and Cahill . Neither are top of rotation and AZ want that money off the books so the cost isn't great . Cahill walks too many but he is a ground ball pitcher and IF (Hell not if we MUST) we improve the defense He would be the guy i chased .

Definitely he can become a Free Agent if he is sent down . The question is if we take him off the 40 man and send him to AAA and he declares free agentcy do we have to pay him . I believe Yes . If we keep him on the 40 man but option him down and he declares free agency then I think we don't have to pay him . Is that right ?

If Romero is in AAA he won't be with the Jays . He won't accept it and will become a free agent

I agree Sil , Was thinking the same team but both are going to be salary dumps by AZ so won't cost us as much . With a package of 3 could we also get a Holmberg or better ?

So a package of 3 good relievers should net us good value in the right trade . I would deal one of Janssen/Santos , Cecil/ L Perez , and add 1 more guy . That to a team that lacks a back end of the BP would be worth a lot.

According to the toronto Star article Redmond and McGowan have no options left . Burning options on Hutch and Nolin was just sheer stupidity I,m assuming Carreno has only 1 left

Thanks Ace , Haven,t had a chance to read the chat yet so your recap was helpful . Great to see that a bunch of us have got BA subscriptions now . For a few years I think I was the only one . BA is still the best at scouting reports . BTW , Did not think we would have even 1 on this list in spite of winning the league for the 3rd time but lets face it Dantzler is old for the league anbd not really a prospect IMO

Not a big guy , Just wondering what he has for pitches and velocity . Baseball America had articles about it on the 21st,22,and 23rd and nothing after . Never mentioned him
