  1. With Dirks , Mayberry, Gose, Pillar, and Pompey on the roster I don't see a need for spending that kind of money on Aoki when the existing holes at 2nd and bull pen are pretty glaring . I still see CF as Pompey,s job to lose . Think of the hype AA can create if he wins the CF job in ST which he could easily do. Thing is everything changes if they resign Melky .
  2. I can see the Angels taking a shot. They are up against the wall budget wise but need pitching. They need to move an infielder to free up money for two starters. Bills should be low cost high risk but high upside.
  3. I still see AA,s plan as improving the defense, adding team speed and building a better bull pen. While Martin would fit the better defense plan his cost in a prospect plus huge dollars just doesn't fit. I'm sure he didn't see Smoak and Dirks falling into his lap but that still leaves only 19 or so mil to spend and 8 rosters spots to fill. I also think AA discussed all major free agents like this board has and like this board discarded them because of costs.
  4. Melvin was on MLB radio today . They valued Lind to fit in the middle of their righty dominated lineup plus face all the right handed pitching in their division.
  5. Wonder which club takes the gamble on Billingsley Anyone know his injury status after his last surgery. does he pitch in 2015
  6. LOL ANG , we all know how much you value Delmon but i think AA is going to disappoint you.
  7. You have to think Martin gets close to McCann money, not as much but I think a 4 year deal at 15 mil is the least he gets.
  8. He talks about 120 mil. I got 126 when I filled out the 25 man roster with league min salaries. AA is right in that with pickups like Smoak and Dirks it gives them a lot more options as these guys can be DFAd. Even if they are released after ST i think it only costs one sixth of their salary. I do believe Fransisco will be DFA,d but that 2.2 mil or more will be spent on minor league signings.
  9. Agreed, As more clubs buy into pitch framing and defensive runs saved the value of guys like Martin just keeps going up . Add to that the first round pick cost and the budget contraints and this just makes no sense.
  10. Lind on MLB radio with Duquette and Farron. Before going on Duquette really beat up the trade. Said this was AA paying Melvin back for stealing Lawrie. Lind on finding out . Thought AA was calling him about exercising his option ,instead told him he was traded to the Brewers and That was the end of the call. Said he thought he was a key cog in the lineup and was surprised. Said he knows no one on the Brewers. Did not sound happy. On hitting coaches. Stated Cito, Murphy, and Mottola taught him lots. On talking hitting with other players he only talked to Rasmus.
  11. Yes 6.75 mil for 15 and a ( mil mutual option for 16
  12. LOL at the Rockies giving Cuddyer a QO. he would be crazy not to accept that. They must really want him back bad to overpay that much. What would he have gotten on the market 2 years at 10 mil per year.
  13. I would suggest it is at most 30 % Rogers portion of the TV revenue won't be in USD. Also keep in mind major league salaries are just a portion of the teams costs. The 6 mil is just and est others have suggested . It may be more . Hopefully it is a lot less but I think that is a good # to use. Nobody but AA Beeston and Pelly know how much the jays have to spend. I just believe it is going down.
  14. I don't really mind the moves so far. Smoak could be a surprise for us and his defense will be way better at 1st. Just depends what moves these ones open up. I have no idea of the value of Happ and suspect he goes for a high leverage reliever that is controllable.
  15. Jays are at around 126 million with the est Arb awards with an est. 6 million added cost year to year in the exchange rate. AA has no choice but to cut payroll. The team may not be any better but after a pitcher is moved it will be cheaper and THAT is Rogers,s mandate. If they can afford to hang on to Buehrle and move Happ the rotation should be OK. Since I don't see a payroll fit for melky the offense took a big hit but the defense with Smoak at 1st and whoever in left will be stronger.
  16. Yes AA stated that adding players with a record of health was going to be a priority.
  17. I just went back to MLBTR,s offseason outlook and using their projections of Arb awards the jays are somewhere around 126 million not 135. Now I expect some subtractions from that but there will also be some AAA signings like Jeff Francis which should be close to a wash. That said the difference between the canadian dollar year to year is substantial. Say the Jays hedged last year at 95 cents and this year at 90 cents that is probably somewhere around 6 mil. more this year than last year.
  18. You don't have Smoak and Dirks in there. With Arb awards your probably looking somewhere around 135 mil.US. That is without Melky. Probably add about 6 mil for exchange rate as long as they hedged at a good rate. All that and holes in the BP and OF and 2nd . Not hard to think that a contract like Buehrle,s has to go.
  19. Not surprised at this move at all . As I had posted I expected Lind and Buehrle to be moved. AA will really be in trouble dollars wise if Melky accepts the QO . Estrada just adds starting depth till the kids are ready. The only thing that surprised me was the AA quote that they were either trading Lind or buying him out. That tells me the budget is really tight. He must really have pissed off management/ownership when he shot off about no commitment to win. Rogers does not like negative publicity especially when they are getting AA to lie about budget and garnering a lot of heat over it. Still waiting for AA to talk about wanting to improve the team speed , defense, and bull pen. I believe that will be the excuse for not filling holes.
  20. Well Rogers deserves all the hate he can throw but it still means they won't do business with him. Not good business on his part IMO. Then again maybe he knows he is out with them and is just getting his shots in .
  21. IF he is healthy . Backs are a brutal thing. look how much time Lind has missed with his back.
  22. They aren't trading straight up for Happ. they want young controllable pitchers.
  23. That leaves Valencia out of the mix. i look for a bench of Goins or Izturis, Valencia, An OF, and Thole . Don't see how we can get away without him with Lawrie,s history. Unless of course he signs a 3rd baseman like Headley. Highly doubt he has the budget for that. I really believe Moogy gets his wish and Lind is gone but two OF,s on the bench just doesn't work unless there is a very good Lawrie replacement in AAA.
  24. Boras is just screwing himself and clients with this s*** . When he blasted Rogers last year about not adding payroll they probably told Beeston , Don't deal with that guy! In a similar situation where a contractor said disparaging remarks about the Oil company i worked for I told my foreman not to hire that company . I blacklisted them and it cost them tons of work .
  25. That would suck defensively against LHP. Gose is the only CF. If Dirks could play center he would still be in Detroit
