  1. I know you guys follow injuries in the league closely so I have a question for you: My room mate thought it was the dumbest thing ever that I suggested Stroman's injury could have been building up over time, and the bunt drill during spring training was just the last straw. Maybe in a world with perfect information a maintenance surgery could have been done before his ACL totally snapped? Or is it more likely that his ACL was at 100% then he tore it all at once on one play?
  2. Wouldn't you think hitters would have more fly balls go for home runs and more grounders turn into singles if they were making better contact? Maybe Loup is tipping his pitches.
  3. Honest mistake, could happen to anyone. Seriously though, if there is any merit to the dickey effect still, it might benefit the team to have price follow him for the rest of the season
  4. Has this still been a thing this season? Is this part of why he is being used on short rest today? To help out Price?
  5. Why is it that 10 runs is equal to a win? Some games you obviously need more runs to win. Teams with the same run differential can have wildly different records. Also: A player who hits a lot of home runs would be more valuable to a team with high obp. Does war account for this?
  6. I always thought the boos were because they were mad at how bad he became while he was here. I am still disappointed that he never lived up to his contract. I can see why everyone else is too.
  7. Yeah, I was floored when I heard it. Personally I cant decide whether I like The Czar or The Last Baron more, but those are easy top 2 for me. I was disappointed to see that they have taken their music in another direction on their last 2 albums (the new album was especially disappointing)
  8. What are your top 2 favorite songs off of crack the skye?
  9. Is it just me or do the Jays always do just terrible on west coast roas trips? Maybe its just cuz I get so tired watching the games, but i figure the players dont take kindly to starting games at what they are used to being 10pm
  10. As a studet going into my final year of computer science, I would be greatly interested in what you guys think makes a great programmer. I am pretty skeptical that anyone in my class would qualify as great at this time
  11. I used mediahint on firefox to watch jays games last season with no issues. I normally am blacked out
  12. NL is always so weak, only 2 teams in top 11. yet they seem to always come out on top in the WS
  13. whats wrong with morrow? he isnt getting replaced any time soon
  14. If you support intentionally running over the catcher, what about running over anyone else on a tag play? Why aren't 2nd and 3rd basemen tackled in the same way catchers are?
  15. Comparing team wins to pitcher wins is what is idiotic. 2 completely different stats, apples and oranges. What idiot decided to give them the same name?
  16. f*** the prospect forum
  17. does positional adjustment really make sense? Consider a random guy who was super out of shape and basically the worst you could be at every position, why would he be worth more runs to a team playing the most important defensive position than playing left field?
  18. Of course it is. But strike outs are important for getting outs and no one is saying the brandon morrow was better than roy halladay in 2011 despite having significantly better k/9. The point is that there is more to a player than one stat, and ignoring JPA's power leads to a conclusion that isn't exactly true. I should say that I am in no way defending him, and I am glad he's gone, but I just had the wrong idea about his offence last season because of my own ignorance. I thought it was pretty much the worst offensive season ever by any player, when really it wasn't exactly that bad. 8th worst or so ever by a catcher is about as extreme as you can make it sound. still god-awful, but not as bad as I thought.
  19. yeah im probably making it up... I found a post in the arencibia line thread that says he has the worst OBP in league history and has the 3rd worst wrc+ of all catchers (not 100% accurate but close enough). probably where I got the idea from and it just got embellished in my mind.
  20. thanks a lot for that! Well first of all I guess it's important to note that JPA's 2013 season did not have enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title (he was really close though). So I arbitrarily selected 300 and then 400 PA and sorted by OBP and it was historically bad for sure but obviously you have to take his power into account since we all know that's all he brings and so I sorted by wOBA and he is 155th worst out of all players with over 400 PA. Clearly this is horrible but not as bad as I had been led to believe by the general attitude here. His -0.6 WAR is 19th worst among catchers with 400+ PA, but not even close to the worst including all positions (because of the positional adjustment for catcher, right?). Interestingly, he was apparently worth 3 runs for his defense despite all the hate for his defence but his -25.2 offence runs are only 408th worst all time Maybe I am making up the whole 2nd worst season ever thing (does anyone else remember this being mentioned here??), but there are a s*** load of players who have had worse offensive seasons than JPA's 2013. TLDR his obp sucked about as bad as everyone says but that is totally cherry picking a stat which doesn't tell the whole story and including his power makes him not nearly as bad as the impression I had gotten.
