apparently I'm very focused when I go to the fangraphs page. Looked at his K/9 and BB/9 and said 'hmmm, pretty decent year coming off TJ'. Didn't even noticed the inflated ERA. FIP looks ok too for a guy getting back in the groove.
Hopefully we have something
Thats a lot of premium talent coming in for 2 guys (I still think they should have gone quality vs quantity with Sale and got better secondary guys for Sale).
I respect how Chicago is jumping into the rebuild with both feet
I think Blackmon would be a good target if you could get him for spects rather than a guy like Stroman. I think he could be good in a corner OF role and I think his new power could be legit (will obviously be less than in COL, but RC is a launchpad too).
If your theoretical value system gives you values that are not realistic, doesn't that indicate there is something wrong with the system?
(and I say this as someone who uses the 9 WAR/win number because it seems to work in most cases).
It would actually be really fascinating to see what Trout would get if he was an untethered FA right now. You'd have to think it would 40M?
ok... I wouldn't suggest any team spend $63M a year on Mike Trout. I don't think you can win doing that...
The exact number is irrelevant.
*edit... maybe the Dodgers or some other super high payroll team MIGHT be able to win paying a single player 63M a year.
Its a good add to be sure. They just lost 4 WAR from Papi retiring and gained 5(?) with Sale. Not saying this is good news, but those saying 'may as well pack it up now' seem like they are over-reacting to me.
