Manfred looking at relief pitcher limits in game
King replied to King's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
I love seeing dominant relievers come in and strike out the side. Apparently Manfred doesn't consider that "action" though. I assume he means home runs, which are actually up this year. -
Holy f***. Why? http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/17118662/mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-says-looking-possible-limits-use-relief-pitchers-games Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred acknowledged that MLB is looking at possibly limiting the use of relief pitchers in games. Manfred was a guest Thursday on ESPN's Mike & Mike where he was presented nine suggestions from fans for improving baseball. One suggestion was some sort of restriction on the use of relief pitching in an inning or game. "I am in favor of something like that," Manfred said. "We (MLB) spend a ton of time on this issue in the last few months." "You know the problem with relief pitchers is that they're so good. I've got nothing against relief pitchers but they do two things to the game; the pitching changes themselves slow the game down and our relief pitchers have become so dominate at the back end that they actually rob action out of the end of the game, the last few innings of the game. So relief pitchers is a topic that is under active consideration. We're talking about that a lot internally." This year, the average time of a game is 3 hours, 4 minutes. By comparison, in 2005 games averaged 2 hours, 49 minutes.

BTS up

He's 24 in September. He's older than Dalton Pompey. He needs to be hitting in AA right now to be at Age/Level, but instead, he's in Bluefield. That's not too good.
-
Will do
-
You're also up in BBDL.
-
He's 25 so getting old. Maybe he could be a decent depth corner infielder. Last year he had a 49 wRC+ in High A and looked like he was on the verge of getting released, and now he's crushing AA. It's a good story either way.
-
I doubt it. Gary Sanchez will be the first up if someone goes down. He's kind of blocked.

http://i.imgur.com/JlbmBf0.png http://i.imgur.com/926vcet.png http://i.imgur.com/Rqfh1t5.png The Buffalo Bisons had the tying run in scoring position in the final two innings of Wednesday afternoon's contest at Coca-Cola Field but couldn't convert as they were topped, 5-4, by the Norfolk Tides. Down 5-2 in the eighth, Darrel Ceciliani led off the inning with his second single of the game and moved up a bag as Domonic Brown walked. David Adams knocked a ball just inside the track in right field for an RBI double to bring the Herd within two. Brown then scored on some heads-up base running, as a passed ball went off of the home plate umpire and scooted about 15 feet away to the first-base side of the plate. Adams moved to third on the play but was stranded as the next two batters grounded out. Dalton Pompey led off the ninth and stole second base, putting the tying run in scoring position once more. However, Jason Stoffel struck out three consecutive batters to secure the series for the Tides. "We battled back. We had opportunities but just couldn't cash in," said manager Gary Allenson. "The difference in the game today was our bats, they just went silent." Pompey finished with three hits and an RBI on the day. Now 11-for-21 in his last five games, the outfielder has boosted his average to .297 this season. "I guess it all started when we had the 20-hit game, I was just trying to use my hands. I felt like I was using too much body," said the 23-year old. "I've been using my hands a bit better and I've been trusting myself a bit more." Chris Leroux lasted 5.2 innings before three consecutive base hits chased him from the hill. The rangy righty gave up a run in the first and again in the second, before settling in to sit down the next 14 Norfolk batters that came his way. All three hits surrender by Leroux in the sixth came around to score, leaving Buffalo's starting with five earned runs next to his name. Leroux's final run crossed home with Matt Dermody on the mound. In his third Triple-A appearance, Dermody hurled 1.1 innings of his own, allowing two hits. Danny Barnes continued his impressive run with the Bisons. The 26-year-old righty struck out the side in the eighth inning, lowering his ERA to 0.71 over eight appearances for the Herd. "The one thing that impresses me about him is that a lot of guys come up and don't trust their stuff - they're not sure if they can compete at this level. He has the same stoic look on his face whether there's nobody on base or the bases are loaded," noted Allenson. "It seems like nothing bothers him. He's obviously put himself on the map." Dustin Antolin hurled a scoreless ninth to keep the Norfolk lead at 5-4. Tides' starter Tyler Wilson also gave up a run in each of the first two innings before being lifted with a runner on and two out in the fourth. Andy Oliver took over for Wilson and kept the lid on the Herd's offense for three full innings, striking out a pair while limiting Buffalo to one hit. The scoreless-effort was enough for Oliver to earn his first win of the year. BISONS NOTES: Dalton Pompey has scored at least once in each of his last five games…Danny Barnes has struck out 15 batters in 12.2 innings while up with Buffalo…The Bisons finish their season series with the Tides at 2-4 and fall to 23-25 at home…Blue Jays' outfielder Jose Bautista is scheduled to make a rehab appearance with the Herd on Friday. http://i.imgur.com/Vv23Zxm.png http://i.imgur.com/z2V6Fga.png http://i.imgur.com/XrrDdC6.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/8/190698588/cuts/GreeneYelling_ubkzncen_vmi7qpt4.jpg Manchester, NH - Jason Leblebijian homered and Conner Greene allowed two runs in six innings for his second win of the season as the Fisher Cats edged Reading 4-2 Wednesday to claim a series win from the first-place Fightin Phils. Leblebijian's home run, a two-run shot, put the Fisher Cats in front in the bottom of the third inning 3-2. Greene (2-2) earned his second win since joining New Hampshire and relievers Brady Dragmire and John Stilson followed with three scoreless innings in relief. Stilson pitched the final two innings for his first save. Reading (66-31) scored in the top of the first inning. KC Serna doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Pullin. Rhys Hoskins followed with his 26th home run to put the Fightin Phils up 2-0. The Fisher Cats (44-52) plated a run in the bottom of the inning. Roemon Fields walked and advanced to third on an errant pick off throw. Dwight Smith Jr. delivered a sacrifice fly to cut the Reading lead to 2-1. New Hampshire moved in front in the bottom of the third inning. Shane Opitz doubled ahead of the Leblebijian homer, his fifth of the season. The Fisher Cats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ian Parmley walked and stole second, scoring when Reading made two throwing errors on the play. The Fisher Cats open a four-game series with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees Double-A) tomorrow (Thursday) night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and an Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game presented by the New Hampshire Lottery. The Blue Jays' slugger clocked a first inning home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch after taking the first five from LHP Grayson Garvin. He went 1-for-3 on the night in five innings. Dunedin (18-9) could not sweep Charlotte (13-12) as the Stone Crabs defeated the Blue Jays 8-5 on Wednesday night. Dunedin tied a season high with three home runs. After a 2-2 first inning that included Bautista's solo shot, CF Anthony Alford gave the Jays a 3-2 lead with his own solo smash to dead center on his 22nd birthday. Charlotte countered with two runs of their own against RHP Justin Shafer in the third. Dunedin came right back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out two run home run by SS Gunnar Heidt. Shafer was taken out of the game in the sixth after allowing a two-out walk. RHP Brad Allen (L, 4-6) relieved him and surrendered a go-ahead two run home run to SS Jake Cronenworth. In his FSL debut, Cronenworth fell a double shy of the cycle, reaching base all five times he came to the plate. With a 6-5 lead, the Stone Crabs added two more runs an inning later while RHP Mike Franco (W, 5-4) tossed three hitless innings in relief to hold the lead. RHP Brad Schrieber (S, 1) locked it down with a 1-2-3 ninth. Dunedin heads to Jupiter for four games, beginning with RHP Conor Fisk at 6:30 PM on Thursday night against the Hammerheads. http://i.imgur.com/gP3MJia.png http://i.imgur.com/HMELWoD.png http://i.imgur.com/1KdiHQ6.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/7/6/177432676/cuts/Cook_0568_wrqtjwbp_5mfob9mp.jpg LANSING, Mich. - Chris Mariscal lined a three-run double in the first inning and that was all the Clinton LumberKings (20-6, 59-37) required in a 3-0 shutout of the Lansing Lugnuts (15-11, 51-45) on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. The Lugnuts fell to 1-6 against the Western Division in the second half, while the LumberKings improved to 6-1 vs. the Eastern Division. Lansing starter Angel Perdomo (Loss, 3-4) loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, allowing singles to Luis Liberato and Conner Hale before hitting Dalton Kelly with a pitch. Mariscal ran the count to 3-and-2 before driving the right-center gap to clear the bases, supplying the game's only runs. Perdomo settled in afterward, allowing only two further singles in the next four innings and striking out five total L-Kings. Ryan Cook followed with three scoreless innings, and Jackson Lowery recorded a perfect ninth. On the other side, though, the Lugnuts' offense was stymied by 19-year-old Nick Neidert and three relievers. Neidert (Win, 7-2) needed only 62 pitches to finish five scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. Lukas Schiraldi handled the sixth and seventh innings, Rohn Pierce pitched a clean eighth and Matt Walker (Save, 5) took care of the ninth. The game would have been even tighter, were it not for brilliant Clinton defense. A 3-6 double play thwarted a first-and-third Lugnuts threat in the first inning, finished just before Andrew Guillotte could score the Lugs' first run. Ryan Hissey doubled leading off the fifth inning. Two outs later, Hissey attempted to score from second on a Guillotte single, only to be thrown out at the plate by right fielder Gus Craig. In the sixth inning, Max Pentecost singled, moved to second on a balk, and attempted to take third on a pitch on the dirt - only to be thrown out by catcher James Alfonso. Juan Kelly followed with a sizzler up the middle that took a head-high bad hop on shortstop Rayder Ascanio, who made a stunning barehanded grab and threw out Kelly by a whisker. And in the bottom of the ninth, with one out and John La Prise at first base, Kelly knocked a deep fly ball to right-center. Craig not only made the running catch in the alley, his throw to first base doubled off La Prise to end the game. The Lugnuts and LumberKings play the middle affair on a Labatt Thirsty Thursday Gone Wild: Redneck Night, featuring the comedy of Donnie Baker plus $2 beers and half off craft beers. Lansing left-hander Ryan Borucki (6-3, 2.69) starts against Clinton right-hander Ronald Dominguez (1-1, 2.08). Greene says he's not worried about his statistics and that he's having a "learning year" http://www.unionleader.com/article/20160710/SPORTS0102/160719962/1061/SPORTS0102 MANCHESTER - In his second stint with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, pitcher Conner Greene is trying to soak up every piece of information he can. The 21-year-old righty wants to learn as much as possible while with the Fisher Cats as he works toward his goal of reaching the big leagues. "Last year, I had a good year and I relied almost strictly off (my talent)," Greene said Friday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium before New Hampshire's game against Binghamton. "This is a big learning year. I'm not too worried about the statistics of it because I'm gaining so much information right now and I'm applying things and just taking away and going about my plan." Greene, the Toronto Blue Jays' top pitching and No. 2 overall prospect according to MLB.com, made five starts for New Hampshire last season. He posted a 3-1 record and 4.68 ERA. The Santa Monica, Calif., native went 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA over 15 starts with Advanced-A Dunedin (Fla.) before he was called up to the Fisher Cats on July 1. Greene owns a 1-1 record and an 8.68 ERA over two starts for New Hampshire this season. While Greene isn't pleased with his performance with the Fisher Cats so far, he is trying to learn from the mistakes he made in both starts. Two members of the Fisher Cats that Greene has been working with constantly since his arrival are pitching coach Vince Horsman and catcher Ryan Lavarnway. Greene, a seventh-round pick by Toronto in the 2013 MLB draft, has been working with Horsman to develop his slider. Greene also throws a fastball, curveball and a changeup. "Vince Horsman was my pitching coach last year in A ball so it's nice being here with him again," Greene said. "Me and him were working on some stuff last year so we're kind of picking up where we left off." Chemistry is not a problem for Lavarnway, 28, and Greene. The two have known each other since Greene was 8 years old. Lavarnway, who previously played for Boston, Baltimore and Atlanta in the MLB, played with Greene's older brother, Casey, in high school. "He saw me when I was like a baby, a tiny kid who can't even throw a baseball," Greene said. "Now he's seeing me throw fastballs to him. It's weird. It's crazy." Lavarnway's MLB experience has proven beneficial for Greene on the mound. "He's fighting to get back up there as well but it's nice having a big leaguer that knows the game," Greene said. "It's just good because he gives you confidence because he says, 'Hey kid, you can do this. You're good enough to do it so just go do it.'" Greene is looking to use what he learns from his Fisher Cats coaches and teammates to continue moving through Toronto's system. Until he receives another call up, Greene is focused on helping New Hampshire string wins together. "It's a great team and great staff here so I'm just happy to give my efforts and do my best here for this team and hopefully I can keep on moving," Greene said.
