The Lugnuts fell to 1.5 games behind victorious Great Lakes for the final Eastern Division playoff berth. Borucki tossed five scoreless innings for the fourth time in his last five starts, tying a career high with nine strikeouts, scattering three hits, picking off a Captains base runner from first base, and lowering his ERA to 2.44 - good for second-best in the Midwest League. But the Captains struck as soon that Borucki departed, scoring three runs in the sixth against Tayler Saucedo (Loss, 8-11). Willi Castro laid down a bunt single, taking second on a Saucedo throwing error, and Jodd Carter followed with an infield single. Calica doubled in both Castro and Carter for a 2-0 lead, moved to third on a balk, and came in on a Li-Jen Chu RBI single. The Lugnuts were unable to muster a response against 19-year-old Captains starter Triston McKenzie and relievers Leandro Linares and Erick Algarin, striking out a combined 16 times. McKenzie (Win, 2-1) whiffed nine batters in six innings, allowing two hits and one walk. Linares recorded six strikeouts in the seventh and eighth, pitching around a pair of hits and a walk. Algarin (Save, 1) notched a perfect ninth, adding a strikeout to put icing on the cake. In defeat, Andrew Guillotte went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, and Juan Kelly drew a walk in four plate appearances to extend his on-base streak to a team-high 27 straight games. Right-hander Josh DeGraaf (5-6, 3.29) starts the second game of the four-game series against Captains right-hander Micah Miniard (0-2, 4.71), set for 7:00 p.m. Saturday. The Lugnuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series against Bowling Green from August 31-September 2. He's now turning in a very impressive season for Lansing after being a disaster to start the year in Dunedin. 2) John Straka: Straka pitched 5.1 innings giving up 3 hits and no earned runs while striking out 8. 3) Rowdy Tellez: Tellez went 3/4 with a double, home run and a walk. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Alvaro Galindo: Galindo got knocked around for 7 earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
  3. Smoak shouldn't be facing lefties but Dean and Albers suck so it's cool.
  4. There are plenty of people that don't care for watching the game
  5. Andrew Albers lol. We could score 20 in this game
  6. Mike Wilner ‏@Wilnerness590 3m3 minutes ago Not sure why so many seem to think Bautista lost track of the outs. Didn't look that way to me. He just had no chance to throw anyone out. Mike Wilner ‏@Wilnerness590 1m1 minute ago Correction- I'm informed by the great @SiddallJoe that Bautista did apparently lose track of the outs. I was watching the runners. #Bluejays This is vintage Wilner
  7. Navarro is back
  8. Mike Wilner ‏@Wilnerness590 1m1 minute ago #Bluejays fans rejoice! #Jays have acquired Dioner Navarro from #Whitesox for AA lefty Colton Turner. Likely joins team in Baltimore Monday.
  9. Amy MoritzVerified account ‏@amymoritz Bisons just announced that Dom Brown, in the starting lineup, is scratched. Do with that info what you will. If Dom Brown gets called up before Pompey then lol.
  10. Dunedin and Lansing are in the mix Bluefield in the mix GCL Blue Jays have the 2nd best record in the GCL (.717), 3rd place is the GCL Cardinals at .600, but the way the playoffs are setup only division winners get in, and they are 2 games back of the .745 GCL Phillies. So it does not seem like they will get in.
  11. He started against the Jays in the Minnesota series back in May. 6IP 3H 2ER 3BB 5K
  12. BK (Vancouver, BC): Are there any holes in Vlad Jrs offensive game? Does he have a chance to be a really fast riser in the Jays system? Ben Badler: He will overswing sometimes when he tries to do too much, but even when he does that, he has the bat path and hand-eye coordination to make contact, whether it's against premium velocity or making an adjustment against a breaking ball, and he does it with plus raw power and a chance for plus-plus power. He will be in Low-A next year as an 18-year-old, so he's already moving quickly.
  13. The minor league season is almost over but I will still make recap threads in the offseason for the various winter and fall leagues, AFL/DWL, etc. Not everyday but maybe once a week or every few days. Btw, MLB cut its funding to the Australian Baseball League, I'm not sure if prospects will be sent there in the offseason anymore.
  14. http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/8/4/197724784/cuts/Jones960_6v4986zy_gjk7kocv.jpg Bradley Jones' power has surprised a few people in the Appalachian League this season. On Thursday night, it even surprised Jones. "I knew I was seeing ball pretty well, but you couldn't have told me I was going to hit three homers and have me believe it," he said. Toronto's 18th-round pick did leave the yard three times, also doubling and walking while plating five runs to lead Rookie-level Bluefield to a 12-5 win over visiting Pulaski. "It's a feeling of super excitement," Jones said. "This is the first time I've ever hit three in a game. I was glad the team could get a win too." The three jacks gave the College of Charleston product the Appalachian League long-ball lead with 15, pulling him ahead of Pulaski's Dermis Garcia with 13. His 44 RBIs on the season tie him for the circuit lead with teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the seventh-ranked Toronto prospect, and Burlington's Chris DeVito. "I knew the third baseman on the Yankees [Garcia] had quite a few [homers] and I knew how many I had, but I didn't know about anybody else, so that's news to me," he said. "It's special, to be honest with you. If you'd asked me two months ago, I never would have told you I was going to hit 15 homers. I'm just happy with the way things have worked out for me." More than half of Jones' roundtrippers -- eight -- have come since Aug. 10. "I wouldn't say I've found a power groove. It's more I've been patient at plate," he said. "That's been a struggle, especially at the beginning of the season being impatient sometimes, where I was swinging at pitches I shouldn't. Now, I'm being more confident and waiting for pitches I can do something with." There was one person in the ballpark who saw the hat trick coming after Jones knocked a ball over the fence in left field in the first inning -- right-hander Yennsy Diaz. "After I hit the first one, our starter said, 'You're going to hit two more home runs tonight,'" Jones recalled, "so he and I had kind of a special moment when I hit the third one." He knocked another solo shot in the fourth -- this time to center -- and lined an RBI double to the left-center gap in the sixth. In the eighth, the right-handed hitter went the other way with a two-run homer. "To be honest, I really don't know [what went through my head]," he said. "It was a great feeling to know it went out. It was just pure excitement. I've hit two [homers] two or three times before, but I've never hit three, so it was a great feeling." The huge performance marked Jones' second five-RBI showing of the month, and he set a career high with seven RBIs on Aug. 12. "It's awesome," Jones said. "A lot of credit goes to my teammates who have had good at-bats in front of me to put themselves in scoring position and given me the opportunity to drive them in. It's been a struggle at the beginning of the year to get runners in and get the easy RBIs that were basically given to me, but now I've settled down and it's been a lot easier." Guerrero Jr. went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, falling a homer shy of the cycle. Diaz (4-5) picked up the win, allowing a run on a hit and four walks while striking
