    So Alford is a big man that can steal bases and probably field well but he has no power (to show yet) and a poor arm I guess you can hope to stick him in the corner OF spots.

    He said Pompey should've played more before they shipped him down. Normally I'd agree - one month is too soon, but I think Pompey's mental game was in a bad state and you can't see that in the #'s.

    But Marcum's change-up has to be built off of something, mainly the fastball/curveball. Dickey was predominantly 75/25 knuckleball/fastball when he was with the Mets. So Marcum still needs to have a good enough fastball/curveball offering for players to respect it instead of just sitting on the change-up.

    It doesn't matter if his fastball isn't cracking 90. If his off speed stuff is excellent, then he can do a good job as a 5th starter.
