  1. Nope, got the bad Manoah again. This is gonna be a long night pitching wise.
  2. again... league average bat for a catcher is well above the norm for catchers. Compare him against other catchers, not outfielders and slugging corner IFs. I agree his offensive profile doesnt jump off the page at first glance, but there's more than enough defense there to get him into the hall, even if he didn't hit like Posey.
  3. Why not? Exceptional defense and well above average bat for a catcher. Gotta compare him to other catchers, not other positions.
  4. looks like pretty definitive mechanical problems if his pacing is all messed up. I don't really buy the pitch clock as a reason though, since in 2023 he's not actually rushing his delivery, it's slower and out of sync and it's readily apparent from the first pitch of the game when fatigue and pitch clocks arent an issue. The good news is it should be fixable
  5. He;s only thrown 1 game at the RC and got his tits lit. gave up 5 runs on 7 hits (1 single, 1 double and 4 HRs) and 2 walks. Must have been a while ago though, as no current Jays have really faced him. Belt, Chapman, Varsho, Merrifield and KK are the only guys to have faced him... Belt 2 HRs in 20 AB while also hitting .400 - Chappy is 2 for 2 with 2 HR. Varsho is 1 for 1 with a HR, Kiermaier 1 for 2, Merrifield 1 for 5.
  6. Faced 5 batters, struck out 2 (looking and swinging) 2 flyouts and 1 solo HR given up. Bowden Francis started, went 4.2 giving up 7 hits, 1 walk, 4 K - 74 pitches.
  7. I've learned this season, the TV box is decidedly smaller than the real zone, especially for width.
  8. Looked well within the zone.
  9. Can you run those splits for Horwitz?
  10. Nah, Teheran is cooked. its his 2nd start since 2021. Tops out at 90, Jays will feast today
  11. Manoah is walking practice.
  12. May 31 Vladdy - 1 Point Bichette - 1 Point Chapman - 2 Points - JaysAllMighty Varsho - 2 Points Springer - 2 Points - Jonn Kirk - 4 Points - Biggio - 5 Points - Spanky, JaysBlue, JohnHavok Merrifield - 5 Points Kiermaier - 6 Points Off the bench: 10 Points -
  13. Teheran should be batting practice... picking is tough...
  14. It's just the world we live in. Social media has given the population the ability to comment on literally anything they want, anytime they want. The fact that it's so easy to agree/disagree with anything under the sun makes people think they should, and thus, they do. Couple that with most people thinking they are authorities on things that they have less than no knowledge of... and here we are.
  15. He's got way too much swing and miss in the strike zone to ever be truly effective over the long term. With the bat - he's the kind that will just go nuts for a while when he gets the right pitching matchups, then be useless for a while against anyone who can throw 95+ in the top half of the zone.
  16. True, but the 1 in 1000 are the trisomies and also include having an extra chromosome that causes Down Syndrome and other things like that. Most chromosomal abnormalities that aren't related to sex chromosomes are actually fatal. Specifically relating to extra sex chromosomes, they really don't know exactly what kind of frequency there is for those tri, tetra and pentasomies.
  17. Yeha I went down for spring training a few years ago for about a week, saw a few games in Dunedin and 1 in Bradenton (pirates), really nice parks.
  18. Unless anyone in this chat has a degree or higher in human biology, it's doubtful anyone here can speak with any authority on the subject. Not that real education and information stops people from believing whatever they want these days anyways. But youre right. Internal/External plumbing features are only an indicator of biological sex. Some are born with neither. Some are born with both. Those in the latter two categories are very very very very few and far beween. When you're talking about choromosomes though, generally people born with internal plumbing are XX. People with external fixtures are generally XY. X and Y are generally referred to as the sex chromosomes. XY and XX cover like the vast vast vast majority of humans However, there are extremely small numbers of people that have XXY, XYY and even XXX There are smaller numbers still that have XXYY, XXXY and XXXX There are smaller numbers still that have XXXXY and XXXXX Whether or not those choromosomal abnormalities are ones that might cause comeone to be outwardly male or female, but "feel" like the other biological sex, ie transgenderism, homosexuality, bisexuality, asexuality...... who knows. There's multiple factors that go on in the process of fertilization of eggs and chromosomes being passed from father to mother all the way up to urine in the womb that impact a fetus's levels of estrogen and testosterone, which also may be factors. Science doesnt know yet. But they do know all of the above exist. Im just going to enjoy the shitshow until the mods scrub these posts.
  19. Jung will probably get a ton of votes also
  20. All star voting is out https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot
  21. It's american beer though... slight downside
  22. Probably seeing more of this these days because of the inherent injury risks, but I'm sure they're also metrics beyond public stuff to really feel like they are ready for the jump. The reason I think this is reinforced by the TJ Brock promotion recently - TJ Brock (23 yo): 20.1 IP, 13.72 K/9, 3.98 BB/9, xFIP 3.39, ERA 1.77 So decent numbers but is 4 BB/9 really all that impressive? Not really, so there must be other things in play.
  23. I thnk the thing I remember most about Zaun, was one day after his career was over and he was commentating about something, he went on some long rant about catchers and advanced stats (not statcast stuff this was before that) and how useless they were for evaluating catchers... Then i sorted the leaderboards on fangraphs for all the stats he mentioned and he like top 5 in catchers for all of them. THen I stopped listening to Zaun as anything more than a mascot.
  24. Nah, most fans dont think things normalize after 3 PAs, but they sure think skills disappear after 1 or 2.
