    I doubt there was more than 5 posters here who even knew there was a guy named Lantigua in the system, let alone which level he was at or his stats. I figured they might have added him to the 40 man via before the rule 5 draft but I guess not.

    Yeah, i think the "priority" just refers to them figuring out their line in the sand regarding him first, before focusing elsewhere. I'd put the chances of Chappy returning to the Jays at like 5% or lower.

    He managed Texas for 8 years and was there for their WS appearances in 2010 and 2011, so ... he'll probably do okay. Second time around he's probably learned a few things. If I remember rightly, he only stepped down from Texas due to wanting/needing to reconcile with his family after cheating on his wife with a reporter and that wasn't going to happen with him as a full time MLB manager.

    Not a be-all-end-all… but, when HRs happen, runs are scored 100% of the time. Horwitz is trending to be the 0 calorie lite version of John Olerud lite. Maybe what…12-14 HR at the MLB level projection right now over a full season? He’d have to hit a shitload of doubles to even be 2-3 fWAR given his positional defense and lack of baserunning value. Think Nate Lowe 2023 but with even less power and probably worse defense….as his ceiling. Lowe hit 17 HRs, 38 doubles. Horwitz would need to hit 50+ doubles to even keep that level of offense up.

    I would guess Little will be DFA and tried to get through waivers before too much longer. Kind of a typical minors relief arm, probably has nasty stuff with little ability to command it.

    There’s lots of reasons why Ohtani to Toronto makes sense from a baseball and business POV. He won’t be pitching next season, Jays wouldn’t need him to pitch until 2024 anyways. He would be the DH. jays need one. He’s a left handed hitter too. Toronto, while not a major market in the same tier as LA or New York, is still a major international market. He would get all the benefits of that kind of market without the same level of personal media circus. Toronto could easily offer the best kind of contract to him, if they include shares of the Rogers Corp. Rogers would instantly have a marketing wet dream for their entire business that would make Vlads marketing appeal look like peanuts. There’s just no reason for the Jays not to be in the fight for Ohtani right up until the end.

    Pretty much the unintentional intentional walk and tried to get lucky with Seager getting himself out. DIdnt work, Seager only chased 2 of the 6 balls.

    A lot of it is because of how the champs are presented in MLB and other sports. In every sport, the eventual champion is always crowned the best, the most dominant, etc etc. Fans are constantly fed the narratives that the post season tournaments and their SSS results are more important when judging a team. Winning titles is what gives fans erections, so its a natural thing to believe that your erection is caused by the best team. Metaphorically speaking. Probably a slight majority of the time these days, that is actually correct. But sports have changed in the past half century and especially in the past 20 years. Parity in most leagues is at an all time high (maybe with the exception of the NBA?) and especially in baseball, the differences in the top pitchers, top 9 position players, top 3 relievers from a 100 win team, to a 90 win team, to even an 84 win team are not so massive that you can reasonably expect "upsets" every single year with regularity in the playoffs due to the nature of how the rosters get artificially restricted with all the off days.

    TV ratings dont matter a whole lot anymore, more important is all the social media engagments. still a factor of course but... super bowl ratings are down nba finals ratings are down nhl ratings are down. yet every one of those leagues is arguably at its healthiest point ever. TV ratings are just not the major indicator of popularity now.

    Not sure if this was just released today, but next season's schedule is out. Jays start with 4 at the Trop, 3 @ Houston, then 3 @ Yankee Stadium before getting their home opener against Seattle, then host Colorado and the Yankees again before going back on the road. Also have 4 off days in the first 3 weeks. Don't see Batlimore until mid may and dont play Boston until mid june. https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/schedule/2024-03

    Wouldnt call it stupid, just.... misguided. IF MLB wants the WS Champion to specifically represent the best team in MLB, they would award it to the team with the most wins at the end of the season and there would be a 100% balanced schedule. But, since that is never going to happen for many many reasons... the WS winner should simply not be viewed as "the best team in MLB." The WS winner should be viewed to be exactly what it is, the team that won a tournament at the end of the season *mostly* made up of the teams with the best records in their leagues, that *mostly* reflects being a top tier or 2nd tier team in the game of baseball.
