  1. Because we all know that GM's control the payroll.
  2. Lol, like 3 of you. I like talking about baseball and don't give a rat's ass if you like me.
  3. If you believe that this organization was headed in a positive direction before the hiring of Shapiro then there isn't any question that Rogers f***ed up. We're now without the architect of that success because of their lack of forethought. If you think that the organization was headed in a negative direction then they made the right decision. Count me in the former category.
  4. It may affect EE and Bautista It may have an effect on EE and Bautista
  5. They could have signed him on the spot before even getting Shapiro. He wants to be here and wants to be GM. Don't be so absurdly naive.
  6. Why quote me if you didn't even read it? This isn't Shapiro's fault. He was mistakenly offered too much autonomy and the team will undoubtedly pay the price on the field. High end GM's don't grow on trees and the chances that we see an improvement are relatively small.
  7. Rogers clearly didn't recognize that team had a solid base and was set to compete for years before hiring Shapiro. Now they have to live with that mistake. It's not Mark Shapiro's fault. He should have been hired with the understanding that he works with Anthopoulos or he shouldn't have been hired. End of story.
  8. He was a top 5 GM for drafting and that was without particularly high picks. Don't pretend that this is a common skill that you can find anywhere. Sure Tinnish and Parker did a great job, but who hired them? This all comes from the top.
  9. Let's be absolutely clear on one thing. Shapiro was promised full autonomy when Rogers signed him. The problem here was that the retards that own our team didn't recognize what they had in Anthopoulos and it was always going to come to this. Not that anyone predicted it, but maybe we should have.
  10. Extremely disappointing. His drafting and development track record assured that we would always put out a good team. The future direction of the team is now very unclear and worrying after our best season in more than 20 years. I've never complained about Rogers spending, but they are one of the worst owners in baseball because of s*** like this.
  11. No, I'm not getting that sense at all.
  12. I was responding to a hypothetical post centered around legacy, not about respect from the team. Nobody said or implied that he cares what an individual fan thinks.
  13. A little beside the point, but it would be misguided for him to think that money means respect, at least in a long term sense. Nobody has more respect for Vernon Wells because he got a huge contract. In fact, I think some have less respect for him because of it.
  14. If someone had implied that, I would find the idea that you could derive one's personality from an internet message board to be quite comical and extremely misguided.
  15. It's more of a when than an if, provided his bat holds up, but I think there's a moderate chance that he reverts back to an average defender for a couple more seasons. As for your main point, I think that the logistics of a 'sign a big bat and trade another' would be extremely difficult, but the premise is sound.
  16. Ok, you're just ignoring me I guess. I'm not going to waste any more of my time with your nonsense when I can talk about baseball with others. Put me on your IL if you don't think I contribute useful information.
  17. I think that we should wait until next year to label Bautista as a 1B/DH going forward. The UZR numbers took a downturn, but a lot of that stems from an 8 run decline in arm strength, due to the injury. He returned to being one of the premiere RF arms in the second half. The decline in range numbers is more concerning, but the eye test tells you it wasn't from a lack of footspeed, as is the concern with other older guys like Beltran. Rather, it seemed to me that his problem was taking bad routes and dropping balls. That's more of a mental thing that he hasn't had major problems with before, so I'm optimistic that he can sort some of it out.
  18. What exactly have you heard to characterize him as a low-character person off the field?
  19. You would be smart to take this to heart: "Poe's law is an Internet adage which states that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, parodies of extreme views will, to some readers, be indistinguishable from sincere expressions of the parodied views." If you don't make false assumptions about other people's statements, you'll receive better feedback from them.
  20. I think it's fine that you don't like Estrada. I just posted my point of view and thought process and you went off on a completely different tangent. It can never be just about baseball with you and that's why you get upset.
  21. The 12.5 million is no small sum either, though probably meaningless to the Dodgers.
  22. That's taking it a bit too far. They could have bought him out and seen no discernible change in payroll, had they wanted to. They also make the playoffs this year with or without Grandal. It was still a brilliant trade, I won't dispute that.
  23. The implication being that careful scrutiny can yield better predictions than a cursory glance at a projection. If you want interpret it as something else to make a point then so be it.
  24. Discussing a bad habit is not necessarily condescending and it certainly wasn't meant that way, but I digress. I'm certainly not expecting a change in his skills or another huge gap like we saw this year, but simply expecting a BABIP that is more in line with his career numbers would leave him with an ERA closer to 4 than to 4.5 and that is my logic. His career ERA is also a quarter of a run lower than his FIP, which may be a real skill of changeup artists, as noted in a couple of fangraphs articles.
  25. Isn't he going to be our starting 2B next year?
