  1. I’m sure you’re trying to be tongue-in-cheek, like back in your Girl Scout days, but no one said making the playoffs doesn’t mean anything. Even if you get swept in the 1st round, it sure beats not playing a meaningful game after May 1. I mean, who would claim getting swept in the 1st round isn’t better than that? What kind of season is being toast in May? If you’re clearly a playoff team all year and then you lose in the playoffs, of course it feels like that was all pointless, if you get swept 1st round.
  2. The contrarian take: They’re within a game or two of the best record in baseball. All other playoff teams were busy fine tuning their rosters, 2 years ago, based mostly on a single game, the Jays decided to take their org in a reverse direction and here we are. Outside looking in, trying to laugh at why maybe no team wins 95 games, as a consolation for being out of the playoff picture in May, when standings are as such
  3. Who would’ve thought Spencer Spaghetti had him beat. Gem last night again
  4. They say that about Connor McG but ticket prices go triple from anyone else when he fights. Go figure.
  5. Without the proverbial “checkmark”, that’s still the best thing to assume.
  6. He said it. He meant it. Just shooting the breeze like a cool dude. Jays are a s*** show. He walked it back after realizing the ramifications. Happens every day in every form of celebrity. You don’t change your opinion in one day. He may be a millionaire, but it’d reflect bad on him with other teams.
  7. I was at a seminar in Dallas week and sent an email to the CEO, and it’s very big company and CEO, that the company sucked essentially. Kind of like a Jerry McGuire memo. Lots of underperforming assets at the bottom end and handing over the keys to $5m annual revenue assets to people that can’t read a f***ing P&L. Just a classic quality over quantity approach. Like Bassitt, I wasn’t afraid to say it and one could say a bit stupid to say it and I need a filter, but I’d walk to back if I had to, as well.
  8. Hindsight Einstein is what believe what the kids are calling it these days. That actually just popped in my head but I’m sure it’s a thing.
  9. He was 140-150 wRC+ bat that had a lot of trouble staying on the field. He put it all together in FA year. That was what the contract was based on. Not the current “on a whole other level” guy
  10. You’re being disingenuous on Judge. He was the best hitter in baseball only the year before FA. You’re using the power of hindsight to Judge (intended cap) the contract
  11. The issue is, like many people, you only understand things that move in a linear pattern.
  12. Is that the best you got, douchebag? The question is, is Soto on another planet than 2021 and current Vlad? Yes or no, dbag? I’m not saying you can say this is the real Vlad going forward. That is yet to be determined but I don’t think it’s fair to say Soto is on another planet and leave it at that
  13. I don’t think that’s determined, no. To date for sure, in terms of consistency. You can’t sip the Vlad juice all the way yet, but he puts up a 1.000 OPS next year, I think the playing field is much more level
  14. It’s sort of like, what are prime years worth. So if you use nerd calculations that say $10-12m/war as baseline, it’s like ok I think this guy is going to be 6 WAR next year and I’m ok paying him $70m in essence
  15. The thing to also remember, is in all sports, your agent is always trying to one up the highest contract. Like in the NFL and NBA, this player becomes the highest paid, regardless of Player A was better two years ago. MLB has made it tricky. There is some general formula teams have started using where AAVs are increasing in principle, but they use years to spread it out. So like someone sees a 12 year deal and immediately think, wow how stupid is that, he’s going to be terrible years 7-12. They’re assuming they’re so smart and not that the people running the billion dollar company understand that too and factored it in
  16. Well, at least now more people here are coming around to realistic figures. Ironically, I’m going to partially join the naysayer “remember Chris Davis” people and say, I think Vlad and his agents are going to think more than the Devers contract, based on the Soto situation and it’s not going to be there. I don’t think he signs anything like a 10/300. Think they’d want more. I think if Vlad is 1.000 OPS next year, I think he gets to $400m for sure though. At that point, it’d be proven he’s a Top 4 bat in the game and a relative unicorn.
  17. Stock watch tip on my proclaimed newest “guy” that would be busting out. 40 FV Kumar Rocker. 19ip at AA coming back. O.46 ERA, 29k/3bb. Heading to AAA. ROY next year for sure
  18. I wonder if they’ll get that 8/200 offer up to 8/225 now, for Vladdy. 1b or not
  19. Fans sip the prospect juice too hard. Omar, who if accurate, said Top 100s bust 77% of the time, so these are guys outside of that. Guys like Babe of he was traded last off-season woudlve drawn rage, now he’s worth a pack of chewing gum
  20. Whenever I acquired Hunter Brown in May or something when he was terrible, His next start was great and since that day, I’d be surprised if there was anyone in the AL with better numbers. I highly doubt it. Dude has been nails. Spaghetti coming around. Valdez, who I traded for Brown+, so not a total coup, has been good. Lots of Astros haters earlier on. Looking like a fun team
  21. Lost his nuts, like AG back in the day. Tamed by the board fantasy teams
  22. Girlscout19 Signal activated
  23. In baseball news, Danny J first in history to ever play for 2 teams on the same day is pretty cool. May be in another thread. I dgaf though
  24. Going OT to say I mentioned paying my life high for $1500/each ticket to UFC, which is well over $2k in fees and insane to me. Well, Canada says hold my beer, as Taylor Swift is a lot more than that for the cheapest seats and she plays FIVE shows in like a week in Toronto this November and they all cost that at least. At first I was surprised, but knowing you guys across all the years, I’m thinking there’s probably a bunch of people here with a November date circled in red, taking up whole page. Guys like Laila, it’s just a matter of how much they laid out. Which row they splurged on.
  25. It’s possible. Though there’s that whole leopard and spots theory that’s out there.
