  1. Yeah, or in layman's terms for us non-engineer kinds:P .. when you draw from such a small sample size, bad players would have such a large impact on the data..
  2. Actually I took a peak for shits and giggles starting from 2007 (give them time for a career) 6 years looking at Top 3 hitting prospects.. You get guys like: Delmon Young Brandon Wood Cameron Maybin (little early for him) Jeremy Hermidia Ian Stewart Joel Guzman Rocco Baldelli Hank Blalock (good but gave like 9 WAR) Sean Burroughs Corey Patterson.. Going Top 10 prob helps the sample. Ha.. quoted the wrong post of yours
  3. Yeah. That's a great match. But Stanton was a 6 WAR guy at 22, down season aside.. I would ask for Profar+
  4. Yeah, I agree. Good way for a GM to lose their job. It's pretty crazy Profar is holding his own at this level at such a young age but we have to see when the league adjusts to him. I haven't read anything putting him as generational like a Harper, who some said had the most power they had ever seen.. nor did he put up cartoon numbers as an 18yo like a Trout.. so I just don't see him on that level of a "cant miss".. more like the "cant miss" that comes with your normal #1 prospect with ultra flashy tools.. and theres been plenty that flopped. The main thing that hurts the case is we are set at SS and if we move Reyes.. then we really diminish his value.. ..also the for the record, 3 years (is it 4?) after trading the best SP in baseball.. our return is a broken down prospect flop (Drabek), a struggling 38yo SP (who cost another extra top prospect) and a middle-of-the road prospect in Gose. Basically we've gotten three years of squat up until this point. Most likely 0-1 WAR without looking
  5. Yeah, a lot of Reyes' value comes in that he's a SS just like it does with Profar.
  6. Just because someone isn't prospect crazy doesn't mean they are automatically uninformed casuals. Prospects are high risk no matter how awesome their raw tools look. I'm open to moving JB.. but I would like to see Dickey and JJ moved.. both have the chance to get a Top 25 type guy if they can pitch well until the deadline. Maybe move Casey if he get a nice return. Start forming a plan for the team, then move your most valuable piece. Profar does nothing right not to change the direction of the franchise in the next few years.
  7. If they took MB and we had to maybe chip something else in, I would be down with that. Really hard to lose the deal that way.
  8. It is a brainer. In 2011, if we swapped JB for Hosmer, Moose, and Montgomery.. that would have looked better on paper than this deal would.
  9. This is true. I think even in the team's eyes Thole will have a legit chance to get more playing time. I don't think he will step up but we shall see.
  10. Too bad he doesn't have a Romero like $30m guaranteed contract while he figures things out.. in seriousness though, even if he continues to suck.. he will probably be around for awhile bouncing back and forth in the pros.. his "career" is fine.. there's this guy Brendan Harris that played bb in my district a year younger than me.. plays for Angels now (was on Rays so sure many people on here know him) and has never really been good, spending time between minors and pros... but has made $5m plus+ before 33. Guy like Snider has it made.. just not in terms of being a great bb player..
  11. "That's why I don't understand why they're making a big deal about this. I mean it wasn't a huge deal, but they turned it into something massive. Almost seems like a setting an example out of them. But I mean if they wanted to, they could simply say xxxxx players passed every drug test so the allegations simply aren't true" Well, the story was kind of in its infancy. I'm sure it would have gotten legs regardless of what mlb did being what it is. Selig is like a politician. A very good and convincing one. "Crusader" against PED reform.. blah blah.. also the media would paint mlb as fools if they took the stance "they were tested and passed".. we all know by so many examples like Armstrong, Bonds, Big Mac.. that positive tests does not equal innocence. So Selig is doing exactly what a good politician is supposed to do.
  12. Well, in these cases the drugs are prescribed and completely legal. I don't know Canada's laws though on importing legit prescription meds
  13. You have to have testing to protect the brand. Steroids is a hot button topic with the public like gay marriage or something. If you take the wrong position on it as a brand, its a killer. I don't know how much mlb ACTUALLY cares. I mean, I'm speculating but its not unlikely a lot of your superstars are on something. Clearly the testing process is a farce. Guys that get caught really come off as dumb. You don't see mlb doing any detective work to really expose a scandal like this. Nor do they probably allocate a chunk of their billions to be really cutting edge with their testing process. Why not hire as consultants guys like Tony B and pay them a ton of loot to stay on top of current trends with designer roids and "masking" methods. They are merely reacting to someone else's investigations (or when this all started years ago, public outcry) that are going to be (have been) made public and they're essentially saving face.
  14. I'm quite the believer in NYY magic/horseshit, although there's no way to quantify it. The universe's way of trolling all the NYY haters.
  15. MLBPA would never allow Melky to get suspended twice for the same offense. Would never hold up on appeal either. That's fairly obvious
  16. No!! Not J.Peralta, I'm quite happy with him as my fantasy SS! In seriousness, mlb isn't the winner here. Most of the guys probably passed multiple tests in the last couple years and it basically shows the whole testing process is crap for the most part ( not like the average person didn't know that already but for media purposes). Yes, they did catch Melky, Grandal, etc but for everyone they catch, they prob miss 10-20. Also for every clinic like this one, I'm sure there's another catering to another set of player.s
  17. Yep. Sniders trade value was mud. It was either keep him as a lottery ticket or move him for crap. Would rather have Melky on his deal (who we never would have got)
  18. Other than the old Lansing boys (and their mlb contributions are still in question at this point), most of our comp picks over the years have been pretty worthless. Will be real disappointing if AA cant move JJ, who is equal in talent to Sanzhez last year.. and who netted a Top 25 pick. I like the odds of even a Top 50 pick over the comp system. Also, honestly I think we have yet to see Dickey's better results obviously but I think he can be solid enough to get equal interest at the deadline with an attractive contract to team that can take a chance on it without serious risk.. A pretty level playing field this year and some big market teams could be in the mix for a guy like Dickey. He needs a better ballpark to reside in. The RC isn't meant for guys like MB and Dicky. I would move both. If the gods smile on the Jays and MB can have a nice stretch and you can get some team to take on a portion of that.. that would be great as well.. This core doesn't look good. Not saying to A-bomb the whole thing.. but it's not built right.
  19. If Thole was everyday C, people would tire on his .066 ISO bat in a short period of time. Grass is just always greener on the other side. But back to the OP, Thole > Blanco so I dont understand that part.
  20. Watching the NYY horseshit "suprise" players begin the regression process is nice:)
  21. Ok. I would be suprised if thats always the case. Still. Not to play the "you dont understand baseball" card with anyone... But to assume any mlb C doesnt understand you dont throw 0-2 meatballs, as was being implied, is silly. This isnt little league. You can always see what youre looking for. Find the best battery in baseball and im sure there will be 0-2, 1-2 counts during the season where theres a bad pitch that gets hit. Maybe bad location, maybe there was deception where C was setting up and where it went, etc. I would rather listen to a more evolved criticism in terms of his game calling. How to attack batters is something the P, C, and Coaches dicuss prior to the game as well
  22. Bro..MB is a vet (like whole staff to start year)who makes $16m/yr this year. JPA is a glorified club hopper to him prob. MB shakes him off in blink of any eye if he wants. Save that blame for rookie/second year pitchers
  23. And when a LHP throws, who are the superior options to hit 4th and 5th? Also, if youre counting on your 500k C to be the meat-and-potatoes of your lineup.. who was never anything close to a Mauer/Wieters/Posey type prospect.. it may be time to take a peak at your roster.
