  1. What are the Jays going to do with their starting rotation next year? Unless you're Boston or Tampa, that is a question all around the AL East. Baltimore has questions with their rotation(Hammel and Feldman are free agents, Bundy's out till 2015), Yankees are losing Kuroda, Pettite and Hughes to free agency(Hughes), Japan(Kuroda) or retirement(Pettite), with nothing on their farm to replace them, and no ideas on Phelps and Pineda. And of course, there's us..
  2. WAS a stud. A 4.50 ERA in 2013 isn't impressive. He's a far cry from his San Diego days--injuries and age have taken a toll on his peripherals. And pitching in Boston isn't really a good thing for him..
  3. Go Blue Jays! Despite Zaun bragging about Boston's pitching--he's an idiot. Lackey's got a losing record(and a rising ERA--he has stunk post All-Star break). Dempster has been terrible, Lester hasn't improved much from his awful 2012, Doubront has been hit and miss, and Buchholz is STILL on the DL. Oh, and Peavy pitched badly vs. the Royals last start--not even K'ing anybody, and is an injury risk. / The only reason Boston is contending is more due to its #1 offense(605 runs) and #1 walk rate (436 BBs).
  4. Uh.. no. Trout's going to demand a trade before he ever considers signing long term with the Angels. Remember, his agent is angry that he didn't get a larger raise when his contract was renewed earlier this year. Plus, the Angels farm is the worst in the game--they need lots of help.
  5. Mike Trout is going to want to go to the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies or Dodgers(or some other contender) at the rate the Angels are likely to be playing--with an inflated payroll and little hope for the future, no chance he stays long term.
  6. Michael Kay is ripping the Angels a new one in the Yankees broadcast--if you think the Jays are bad, the Angels are in even worse shape! And it's going to get worse--Trumbo and Trout are approaching arbitration---Trout could easily crack $10M in arbitration(and that might be pessimistic--it may be even more): http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/mike-trout-signing-long-term-will-be-troublesome-for-los-angeles-angels-081113 Angels screwed themselves over by signing Hamilton and Pujols to long-term deals. And it won't get better in 2014--Trumbo is arb eligible, several arb raises and they're still paying the Yankees to have Vernon Wells sit on the Yankees bench and hit .241. They also lack pitching after Weaver and Wilson--their farm is seriously lacking, Blanton and Hanson are awful.
  7. The team nearly moved in 2000 because Interbrew didn't want anything to do with the team.
  8. Shi Davidi: Gibbons say elbow injury for Juan Perez " doesn't look good." Will need to go on DL and pitcher brought up. Likely a long man like Thad Weber--or even possibly Marcus Stroman, moving Esmil Rogers to the pen.
  9. Shut up. Unless you want the team to move to San Antonio or something, Rogers isn't selling the team--Rogers saved the team from moving to the US, remember. And you can imagine they're whining the same in New York right now with that team facing a bleak future.
  10. This means Cano is now looking at close to A-Rod money in free agency--he's the only 2B on the market worth anything.
  11. Guess Boston's gonna have to resign Salty(who's bad as well) or overpay for McCann.. Lavarnway isn't the future at C there.
  12. True--but this is a problem throughout sports. The NFL is even worse..
  13. Garza doesn't count because he was traded to Texas--he can't get draft pick compensation.
  14. Since we have a protected 1st rounder, does it matter? Remember, this year's free agent crop is expected to be lousy. At the moment, draft pick comp is expect to go to: Robinson Cano(no surprise) Jacoby Ellsbury Brian McCann Shin Soo-Choo Kuroda(but it's likely Japan or NYY at a bloated rate considering their lousy rotation, due to Pettite, Sabathia and Hughes' declines and lack of farm depth.) Ervin Santana Carlos Beltran(too old!) AJ Burnett Chase Utley Mike Napoli Nelson Cruz Tim Lincecum Remember, there's no guarantee they get QO's... at a price of $14M/year or so, most teams won't bite.
  15. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/current_attendance.shtml Baseball has a serious attendance problem that needs to be fixed--nearly 2/3rds of the league are facing declines in attendance, including big market teams like the Yankees and Red Sox. Even the Rangers are down sharply(mostly because of the sting from last season and having no superstars in that lineup) Notes to Cleveland, Tampa and Kansas City--get your butts to the games! Your teams are in the playoff mix. Seeing attendance drop about 2.5% this year has to be concerning for Bud Selig.
  16. With Texas losing Cruz, Yankees being still awful and Cleveland still unable to beat Detroit, you may get your wish! Royals are only 4 back now.
  17. Difficult to call on this one.. This optioning shows that the Mariners are a worse organization than the Jays.. there wasn't anything wrong with Wilhelmsen, it's just that Eric Wedge won't use him because of what happened in that Boston game on Aug. 1. This is also the same org. that wouldn't trade the veterans(Ibanez, Morales, Morse, Joe Saunders) for prospects the team needs, especially with the pitching staff--they need to build around Felix Hernandez.
  18. Well, we're in good shape for that right now.. we're at #10. Don't think about tanking though--Houston or Chicago(White Sox) are likely to get the #1 pick, as both are 100 loss teams guaranteed.
  19. Agreed. You can imagine AA will be looking for a better pitcher than Josh Johnson--a better C, and a regular 2B.
  20. Sure--Tampa's not gonna be able to afford to keep their starters after this year, especially David Price, who will likely be traded(as he's likely to make $15-20M in arb)
  21. All the team really needs is more SP, a C and a 2B. LF will depend on the development of Pillar, Gose or Sierra.
  22. We're a big market team. Of course we're gonna spend. What do you think we are, Tampa?
  23. Pennant Race updates: Red Sox beating D-Backs 4-0 in the 7th--Doubront is dominating this lifeless D-Backs lineup. As a result, expect the Dodgers Rays currently lead 4-3 in the 7th, Moscoso was lousy as expected--no wonder the Jays didn't keep him. Orioles are losing to Seattle 3-2 in the 9th. Royals lead 6-2 to the Mets. Indians will stay in the lead in 2nd wild card after beating Miami 2-0. Now they need Detroit to lose(tied 2-2 in extras) to gain in the AL Central.
  24. And the D-Backs are getting closer to handing the NL West to the LA Dodgers(who are beating the Cubs right now BTW)
  25. I saw Shuck drop the ball there... that should've been a HR or at least a ground rule double. Luckily, EE just got a hit and it's 2-0 anyway.
