    Casper Wells put on DL due to "vision problems".. probably explains why no one wants him. Not to mention he's an awful pitcher as well as an outfielder.

    You know, Harvey's injury is giving Mets fans bad memories of Generation K (Pulsipher, Isringhausen, Wilson).. what's next?

    I know we drafted Syndegaard--but he was supposed to be part of the future rotation, along with Harvey, leading the Mets back into contention. Instead, Syndegaard, Montero, or somebody else will be rushed to the majors because of Harvey's TJS, when they really need more time in the minors. We should know about this--we've rushed a ton of starters to the majors because of frequent TJSs. As you may expect, the Mets fans are angry at the ownership because of Harvey's torn UCL.

    Let's wait and see how Goins does in the remaining 30 games or so and then we'll evaluate. Anyone's got to be better than Izturis...

    Dickey was better in the NL than in the AL--remember, he won 20 games with the Mets last year.

    Had Harvey stayed healthy, the Mets would be winning this trade--now the trade looks stupid. Wonder how JP Riccardi feels about yet another of the pitchers on his team blowing his elbow out, just like the pitchers he had with the Jays. And it's not just Harvey--they've also lost Hefner, Mejia and of course, Johan Santana to shoulder and elbow injuries.

    Mets' 2014 hopes screwed: WFAN's Mike Francesa says @MattHarvey33 will go on DL with a torn UCL in his elbow. But they have d'Arnaud and Syndegaard... I know Dickey's been struggling here in Toronto, but now the Mets are looking stupid for not resigning Dickey now.. Harvey will miss the 2014 season to likely Tommy John Surgery. Guess Syndegaard will be up sooner than later..

    Unless you want to trade for someone, there's nothing on the 2B market: Second basemen (excluding ones with club options): Yuniesky Betancourt (32) Robinson Cano (31) Alexi Casilla (29) Omar Infante (32) Kelly Johnson (32) Nick Punto (36) Brian Roberts (36) Ramon Santiago (34) Skip Schumaker (34) It's a very weak free agent crop.

    Rays are trailing 5-1 in the 4th--they need a win today, as Baltimore, Cleveland and the Yankees are closing in.

    FYI, Goins is playing a lot better than Maicier Izturis and Emilio Bonifacio at 2B so far defensively. Ditto for Munenori Kawasaki.. Considering the lack of decent 2B on the market outside of Cano (who's likely staying with the Yankees), we need to evaluate which of these two (Goins and Kawasaki) will contribute at 2B next season--free agency isn't going to help. We'll have an easier time finding SP and C than 2B.

    Because of Goins' emergence, the focus should be on SP, C and LF (depending if Pillar or Gose hit) And we need a new pitching coach and manager as well.

    Anyone like Peavy could've easily dominated that weak-hitting Dodgers lineup.

    Big deal.. the Dodgers lineup isn't actually that good. Unless they get Kemp back soon, they're not getting past Atlanta or the NL Central in the postseason. They don't even have a 20 HR hitter in that lineup.. Atlanta, St. Louis, Cincy would blow the Dodgers away unless Kershaw and Grienke pitch well. While Boston is looking more secure--can't say the same about Oakland. They've got losing records in their last 10, 20 and 30 games.. they're going to end up handing a playoff spot to Cleveland, Baltimore, or worse--the Yankees. I can imagine if Boston falls into the play-in game because of Tampa possibly winning the AL East, they DON'T want to face the Yankees--too many nightmares of 1978, 2003, 2004, etc. Please note that the Rays have 4 in hand of Boston--they have a good shot of catching the Red Sox, and are getting ready to play easier opponents in the Royals, Angels(twice), and those sinking A's.

    Most likely Gibbons is gone. Pete Walker is likely a goner after this season too after this terrible performance. Hey, maybe we can go after Mike Sciosia--he's expected to be fired by the Angels after this season. Ned Yost and Eric Wedge could be on the market too--as both face the axe due to their team's poor performance.

    Key game for Boston tonight--a loss tonight and Baltimore could put some real pressure on the Red Sox in the upcoming series. Tampa meanwhile gets the Angels and a makeup vs. the Royals. And the Yankees have us and Baltimore. If the Red Sox have another bad stretch--this playoff race could get very interesting.

    Just wanted to provide some opinion. Detroit's a safe bet for the Central--Texas has been strong as well. But once we get to the AL East, I feel more strongly on Tampa than Boston. I'm not convinced Boston will continue to thrive once they hit September--facing tough contending teams like the Orioles, Tigers, Yankees and Rays could be difficult for them, considering how poorly the Red Sox have played since the Royals series.

    Rays win, Red Sox win, playoff race stays the same--and Boston is still facing the risk of playing in the dreaded wild card game. And they're not secure for the playoffs either--Cleveland won earlier tonight as well. East- Tampa(74-53) and Boston(76-55) Tampa has 4 games in hand--not good news for Boston, especially if Tampa goes on a run. Central- Detroit (76-53) Texas (75-54) Wild Card Tampa Bay and Boston--tied and +2.5 games on 2nd wild card Oakland 72-56 (2nd wild card) IN THE HUNT Cleveland 70-59 (2.5 back, 5 back of Boston) Baltimore 69-59 (3.0 back, 5.5 back of Boston) Yankees 68-61 (4.5 back, 7 back of Boston) Keep an eye on Baltimore--they have a BIG series vs. Boston this coming week. Boston faces the Yankees, Rays, Tigers and Orioles heavily in September--no guarantee Boston makes the playoffs. Cleveland and Baltimore could very easily grab those two wild card spots as well if Boston fades--Oakland is fading as well due to poor offense and the injury to Bartolo Colon. The upcoming stretch could really help the O's and Indians (and unfortunately, the Yankees) get back in the playoff race.
