  1. Update on Kendrick: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/los-angeles-dodgers-angels-trade-second-baseman-howie-kendrick-081913 Dodgers almost traded for Kendrick--and will likely try again in the winter. Looks like Cano may stay in NY..
  2. However, don't be surprised if Kendrick is dealt--the Angels have a cheap option in Grant Green and need to clear payroll for Trout and Trumbo's HUGE arb raises coming up. Remember, the Angels are desperate for young, controllable pitching, as their farm is nothing but AAAA vets and busted prospects, and they need to add help on the MLB staff, as their staff projects as: Weaver Wilson Richards and not much else--Vargas is a free agent and expected to get a raise, Blanton is a DFA candidate, Jerome Williams stinks. They're so thin, the Angels wish they had Nolin, Stroman or Sanchez on their farm.
  3. Gary Thorne's right about tonight's BAL/TB game--both teams are SO SLOW pitching. Mark Buehrle they aren't. Someone said yesterday that nobody's attending the Rays games because they're boring--no wonder!
  4. Don't be expecting a spark by Bogaerts like Manny Machado was to Baltimore--John Farrell says Xander won't play every day, and will back up Drew and Middlebrooks..why is he even here if he won't play every day? Pawtucket's trying to hold down a playoff spot.. they never should have traded Iglesias.
  5. Then d'Arnaud better start hitting--and he's getting the bulk of the starts, as Recker was optioned to AAA after today's game.
  6. Now how about some base hits? Oh, and he got his 1st 2 K's in the MLB as well.. So far, d'Arnaud's numbers: 0-7, 5 walks, 2Ks.. he may be able to take walks now, but he needs to hit--after all, that's part of the reason they wanted him in the RA Dickey deal.
  7. Xander Bogaerts getting called up in a desperation move by Boston after losing 7 of their last 10.
  8. Actually, it's more due to stadium location and the fact the stadium is horrid--they have special rules for that stadium due to the catwalks. Boston does this as well--and people flood to those games.
  9. Boston's not realistic either--putting Choo in CF at Fenway would be stupid, and they have Jackie Bradley Jr. and Bryce Brentz on the way. They also may just resign Ellsbury as well. Taking on Peavy's contract ate some of their financial flexibility as well.
  10. Already have a ton of committed money to Ichiro and Alfonso Soriano, and still have a year of Vernon Wells left, plus owe Brett Gardner a major raise in arbitration. And they still have a decision on Granderson. Not to mention Jeter, if he returns, will be clogging the DH spot most of the time. They also need to resign Cano as well. Yankees also have 3 holes in the rotation in the offseason, as Hughes, Kuroda and Pettite are free agents. That's why Choo won't be a Yankee.
  11. BTW, Girardi just got ejected after A-Rod was plunked and the benches were warned. Will we see retaliation?
  12. And Choo won't have the Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers bidding for him, as they are set in their OFs, and Choo is incompetent in CF, like Curtis Granderson (which explains his move to LF.) Where do you think he ends up?
  13. And he's also defending as bad as Arencibia as well--2 passed balls since his debut, and likely AAA bound as soon as Buck returns. No hits yet for d'Arnaud either.
  14. That's idiotic. Especially for a guy who will likely be a DH in a few years, as he is awful defensively no matter where in the outfield he plays. $15M/year is way too high.
  15. Good luck! His mediocre power number and declining defense will reduce what he gets in free agency. He should only get a 1-2 year deal worth $20-25M (if it's 2 years, $10-$12.5M for 1). His fielding has declined further since 2011 (-1.3 dWAR this season), and he hasn't been the same player since 2010, when he hit 22 HR, 90 RBIs with a .300 AVG. He may have 15 HRs..but most of his hits are at home.. his numbers aren't so good outside Cincy.
  16. 4th-5th at best. Top 3 picks are pretty much booked for the Astros, Marlins and White Sox. And with the NL being so awful outside of the top teams (Braves, Cardinals, Pirates, Reds, Dodgers, D-Backs), a top pick is not assured. We could easily end up as high as 16th in the draft as it stands.
  17. Agreed. Now let's hope for a Yanks win tonight. Now off to NY we go..
  18. OK..but had we not made the trade, he would've likely ended up somewhere like Texas, and likely would've been a hot commodity in free agency regardless if he didn't sign that extension in Toronto. Many teams are stupid enough to throw money at rubbish (see the Angels with Pujols and Hamilton, Mariners with Figgins, the Mets with Jason Bay--even the Red Sox are guilty of the same issue with Carl Crawford--good thing the Dodgers took him off their hands)
  19. I'll say! One inch higher and it's a 2-1 game. Now let's hope the bullpen can hold this to the 10th inning--why not? I mean, remember, we're off until Tuesday, and we'll have a 26th man for that game(likely a reliever)
  20. Since you're so smart, look at what the roster was at the end of 2012--and you'll understand why we needed to make the trades: http://www.mlbdepthcharts.com/2012/02/toronto-blue-jays-2012.html#.UhEp3dI3tVY We'd likely be a 90-100 loss team this year if our pitching staff had continued at that rate.. we needed veteran arms! Most of the big arms in Lo-A ball(Syndegaard, Nicolino and Sanchez) aren't expected until late 2014 to 2015. Considering Morrow's injury, Romero's struggles, etc.. I don't find the trade to be a bust. Let's wait until we see more of a sample size with d'Arnaud before we evaluate(and there's no guarantees--they have Anthony Recker having a good year in NY as well)
  21. Scherzer's 18-1 as he beats the Royals 6-3. Give him the Cy Young already!
  22. We didn't have a choice--either we upgrade the staff and bring in some pitching help, or expect crowds in the low 20,000s. Only d'Arnaud and Syndegard are likely to be sure things. Did you really want to see Ricky Romero walking everyone this year in the MLB? Or Henderson Alvarez spending part of the season on the DL? Or having even less depth on the MLB staff? MOST teams would make those trades--what did you want us to do? Add hitting like the Angels and fail to boost our pitching staff? Look at the mess in L.A. compared to us--we're still in better shape compared to the Angels.
  23. Hardly a franchise destroyer--until we see more of d'Arnaud, we don't know what to expect of him in the MLB.
  24. D'Arnaud draws a walk in his 1st AB, then flies out in his 2nd.
  25. A GM on the Angels Dilemma--and it's not pretty, according to Peter Gammons: "After reading the column about the dilemma the Angels are in because of their mega contracts to players over 30, one GM called and added,“they have the two most unmovable contracts in the game, they traded for Zack Greinke, then decided to sign Josh Hamilton, which not only didn’t get a draft pick for Greinke, but gave one for Hamilton. They have no farm system. And they lost out on the best of Mike Trout—the period when they were getting MVP performance for no money.” Houston and Toronto will likely contend before the Angels get back to postseason contention again..they completely screwed themselves over by blowing the farm system for Zack Grienke(Segura is tearing up Milwaukee) and failing to sign pitching instead of Josh Hamilton. They didn't need more bats--they needed starting pitching! And it didn't start overnight: http://www.sportsoutwest.com/2013/08/12/mlb-the-los-angeles-angels-problems-run-deeper-than-this-season/
