  1. They purchased the contracts of P Ramon Ortiz and P Mickey Storey to replace Romero and Gonzalez. Storey could be interesting--he's K'd 11.9 batters/9 IP in Buffalo. No surprise to see a callup.
  2. Webster didn't get out of the 2nd inning(8 ER, 2 HR), and Doubront hasn't been much better.
  3. Likely options for a call-up: Claudio Vargas (3-1, 3.10 ERA) Ryan Tepera (4-1, 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP)--this is the most likely call-up. Chad Jenkins Sean Nolin(not yet--not stretched out enough) Of course, AA may go out and add someone before Sunday.
  4. Attendance is so bad in Miami, they're going Oakland-style and closing parts of the park. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/miami-marlins-closing-upper-deck-mostly-empty-stadium-150201465.html We have games here in Toronto that easily exceed the 27,000 people that apparently Miami's capacity will drop to with the closure of the upper deck. Of course, in the early 2000s, we did have the upper deck tarped for a time--see Manny Ramirez's 500-level HR in 2001.
  5. And it's official--the Angels are the worst team in the AL right now not named Houston. They lose to Houston 7-6. How much longer until Jerry Dipoto, Mike Sciosia, and others get fired?
  6. The way JA Happ has pitched recently, he was bullpen bound when Johnson comes back.
  7. With a similar average too.
  8. Brandon Gomes now in... man, the Rays better hope Matt Moore goes 7-8 innings tomorrow--their bullpen is toast. Jays will likely call up another pitcher before tomorrow's game since Happ is likely DL bound. AA is likely working the phones right now for a pitcher.
  9. And he does! 5-4 Jays on a HR. Better get Janssen ready.. this will be an inspiring win if we win this.
  10. Clarification--It'd be likely Brock Holt. Sutton's on the DL, Dent's not an option, Drew can't move to 3B, and Justin Henry, a former 3B, is now in the OF. Regression to the mean?
  11. Also, their 3B options in the minors are minimal--Brock Holt(not a natural 3B), Drew Sutton and Ryan Dent are in Pawtucket right now.
  12. Afraid so. And Ciriaco's a terrible 3B/SS--he committed 2 errors to blow the game wide open--6-0 Minnesota now.
  13. Ramos is in the bullpen--he, Wright and Gomes(Brandon) are likely the only ones available. And now Ramos is in the game.. how are Tampa fans putting up with this?
  14. Jake McGee is awful. No Rodney or Peralta available, according to what I hear.. Rays are going to sink or swim with whoever they have in that bullpen.
  15. Oh this is awful... how can they continue this game after this? This is very serious..
  16. Injured arm for Joel Hanrahan. Cherington seems to be cursed on the closer front since Papelbon left via free agency.
  17. Long guy in the bullpen when Johnson returns--we could use someone to take pressure off our bullpen.
  18. Dempster's warming in Boston in the bullpen--they refuse to go to Tazawa or Uehara(overworked). Could we see Allen Webster or Alfredo Aceves starting tomorrow in Boston, as if Dempster comes in, his start would get pushed back, with Hanrahan likely DL bound.
  19. I doubt BC Place could support baseball.. but it's a reasonable idea. They should also get an NBA team back too.. they got ripped off last time, just like Seattle.
  20. The attendance tonight in Tampa was 9,952. Getting close to Expos territory there..
  21. Charlotte or Montreal would be the most likely--Charlotte's wanted to get an MLB franchise, and Montreal is trying to gauge interest in a new stadium.
  22. Good question. With the Dolphins(NFL) seeing their stadium renos being rejected, it's only a matter of time before the Rays start looking for other cities to move to, because the state of Florida won't give any money for a new stadium after that dingbat Jeffrey Loria ripped taxpayers off.
  23. Really a mess for Boston--it means Uehara has to move up to the 9th, hurting the rest of the pecking order. If Hanrahan goes on the DL, it won't be Bard coming up--he's been incredibly wild in Portland(AA). Aceves is a no go--as he's been stretched out as a starter. Chris Carpenter has also been wild. Steven Wright was terrible already in the MLB this year, so he's out. Not terribly enticing options for relief in Boston. (oh and Morales is on the DL as well.) Not exactly a great time for Red Sox Nation--after a 20-7 start, these injuries could be quite deflating, especially with the O's and Yankees closing in.
  24. Check out this lineup for the Rays today--what we're likely going to see with Zobrist on bereavement when we play them: Jennings CF, Joyce RF, Longoria 3B, Loney 1B, Johnson K LF, Roberts 2B, Lobaton C, S-Rod SS Why is Loney hitting cleanup? And why isn't Wil Myers up here yet?
  25. I agree. With Zobrist out and Longoria being the only real threat in that lineup, he has a decent shot.
