  1. Brandon Lyon's peripherals are terrible (1.63 WHIP, 11.3 H/9ip, declining K rate). Don't expect him to help Boston much.. this move was a desperation move because Andrew Bailey is headed for significant shoulder surgery, likely ending his Red Sox career(100% non-tender candidate now because of this.) They also signed Jose Contreras as well.
  2. Six player deal BTW. More to come as soon as we hear it.
  3. Deal's now 99% done apparently. Olt and Edwards are in the deal, as previously mentioned.. and Neil Ramirez is looking like he's in it as well. Rangers may ask for a secondary piece in the deal, as well.
  4. Boston can't sit pretty either--they've got New York, Tampa and Baltimore next--two of which are AL East contenders who would like to see Boston miss the playoffs.
  5. And at the worst possible time--they've got a make-or-break stand coming up with the Red Sox, Rangers, Rays, and Dodgers coming up. Lose these series, and the Yankees will almost certainly miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008, likely costing Cashman and Girardi their jobs in the process.
  6. It's nearly official according to Ken Rosenthal: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-matt-garza-texas-rangers-071913 Rangers will get: Matt Garza Cubs get: Prospects including 3B Mike Olt and P CJ Edwards. More to come.. Not a surprise--Rangers are the team that has the prospects for a deal like this.
  7. Yanks are likely holding their breath on Cano..hoping it's not a serious injury.
  8. We'd be complaining about Cespedes too..he's only hitting .225, although he has 15 HR and 43 RBIs.
  9. Good question.. Baltimore needs that power if they're going to contend vs. the Rangers, Red Sox, Indians/Tigers and Rays.
  10. Better have enjoyed this HR Derby--next year will be a tough one, as the game is at Target Field in Minnesota.
  11. Chris Davis suffered a broken up callous in the HR derby--we'll see if it affects his power in the 2nd half of the season.
  12. That was an error--the most was only 447 ft. ESPN's radar guns need work.
  13. Yoenis Cespedes is destroying everyone right now.. 12 already and only 5 outs.
  14. When are we going to see some power? These HRs have been boring so far, outside of Fielder's moonshot.
  15. Considering the HR Derby caused his wrist injury last year, it's not surprising the Jays didn't want him doing it.
  16. Potentially concerning news for Boston in trying to avoid ending up in the wild card game(if Tampa topples them in the AL East): Rob Bradford ‏@bradfo Buchholz said still sore during bullpen session yest. No plan for rehab start right now. Will reassess after break They need him to get healthy--Lackey's the only starter with an ERA under 3(how?), and most of their starters this season have been hit-or-miss, with WHIPs close to 1.40. Losing Buchholz for more time could cost Boston the division, and possibly a playoff spot if Baltimore, Texas and Tampa Bay remain strong. And don't rule out Cleveland/Detroit either. Boston leads in runs--but will they keep this up in the 2nd half, and stay healthy?
  17. More on Aceves--what a jerk! They should just release him--what a headcase. If it was Joe Maddon as his coach, he'd kick Aceves' butt. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2013/07/alfredo_aceves_said_he_was_hur.html
  18. Not even the Jays wanted him..everyone hates him.
  19. Alfredo Aceves was quietly DFAd over the weekend..boy he's really fallen off.
  20. Rays are now only 2.5 back. Boston's going to have an interesting 2nd half.. they need to get Xander Bogaerts up soon.. Holt won't last at 3rd base(he was a bit awkward there.) They need Buchholz back as well. Rays are in very good shape--they don't really need any upgrades, other than getting Roberto Hernandez out of that rotation when Cobb returns. Archer's been pitching well--I have a good feeling they'll be playing in October--but whether it's a wild card spot or outright winning the AL East is difficult to call. Rangers need many upgrades before the deadline--expect them to be aggressive with getting Garza, and hopefully another bat. Orioles need pitching--and more pitching. Their bats will only take them so far. Indians need another starter--Tigers need a lot of bullpen help.
  21. Thornton deal's looking pretty bad already--he served up a walk-off single off of Josh Donaldson. A's win. Farrell doesn't know how to utilize him either--he was used against right-handers. No surprise to see Oakland win.
  22. Imagine what it's like in New York right now.. the Yanks are in an equally bleak boat as the Jays.
  23. Rays win yet again--and they have surpassed Texas in the wild card. Suddenly, the Rangers are in trouble--their lack of depth in pitching due to injuries is starting to show. Luckily, Ogando, Lewis, Darvish, etc will be back soon--but they desperately need another bat(preferably an OF)--and they need Andrus to start hitting as well. Otherwise, Baltimore or Cleveland/Detroit will surpass them. I have no confidence in the Yanks or Jays contending right now..but we'll see what happens.
  24. That and the Tigers are thin in the minors in decent prospects.
  25. Good outing for Rafael Montero(Mets prospect).. here comes Taijuan Walker(boy, the Mariners have good prospects--why are they still a last place team?)
