  1. Bautista's eye allowed him to reach an offensive ceiling that Teoscar will never touch. Other than that, we might be seeing the start of a similar story although Teoscar is even a couple years younger than Bautista was when he became good. Honestly, JD Martinez might be a better ultimate ceiling comp for Teoscar's offensive profile than Bautista. Of course, JDM was another Astros reject... hmmmmmm!!!!
  2. He's so young. It's annoying but he gets a full mulligan from me on boneheaded stuff for this year, and maybe even for next year. The guy was too good at hitting to stay in the minors so we are basically watching Vlad's entire professional baseball development happen in the big leagues. Nobody else on the team gets any breaks though. Bunch of clowns on the bases.
  3. Yeah Shaw is getting completely owned by average fastballs. It is evident in the data and with the eyes. If you look at 2015 to 2020, his wOBA and xwOBA against fastballs falls off a cliff in 2019. That seems to be the problem - one of those "fell off a cliff" declines in bat speed. Sad. wOBA against FB - year 2015 - .406 2016 - .325 2017 - .385 2018 - .393 2019 - .267 2020 - .271 (xwOBA .288)
  4. It seems cheap to blame Manfred for inevitable stuff like this. Digital ads aren't even new to baseball. Has there not been a green screen behind the batter at Rogers Centre since before Manfred? It used to bug the s*** out of me because there was a bit of tearing/artifacts on the feed around the moving batter.
  5. Trade deadline on Sunday. Rob Manfred is focusing on trading some good prospects/youth for reliable talent, ideally 30 or younger. I want my roster to grow up a bit via trade. I would like to move 2-4 "prospects" for 1-2 young veterans. Open to discussing lots of valuable names: Victor Robles Josh Bell Manuel Margot Mitch Haniger Tarik Skubal Heston Kjerstad Jasson Dominguez Vidal Brujan Taylor Trammell Josh Lowe JJ Bleday Joey Bart Shane McClanahan Daniel Lynch Matthew Liberatore Reid Detmers Braden Shewmake Jonathan Bowlan Jonathan Stiever Johan Oviedo Andres Munoz Also open to discussing Matt Manning, Deivi Garcia, Sixto Sanchez, Austin Martin, Nolan Jones, and Andrew Vaughn but I would surprise myself if I end up actually trading any of them. I'm not getting email notifications probably as punishment for my sins. That means I don't think I can see any notes you type under a trade rejection. If you send me an offer let me know here and I will see it faster.
  6. Hatch is just hard to hit. Very unpredictable. A few weapons and he can do different things with them.
  7. It's a no-brainer. Smoak is a sunk cost on a one year deal. Vogelbach is pre-arb. Their projections are probably similar.
  8. I am suddenly not getting any email notifications from Fantrax. Can't understand why. Anybody else?
  9. Don't need him. Kirk is coming.
  10. Kirk is evidently and demonstrably just a different kind of offensive prospect. His production + age + K/BB rates paint a special picture. Nobody should be shocked if he hits immediately in the big leagues. This is our Juan Soto. Our fat little Soto.
  11. Yes. Sunday is the trade deadline! Then right into playoffs.
  12. I traded for him in a different league but I thought it was pronounced Jizz Chasm. I am disappoint too.
  13. How much worse would Russell Martin even be!!?? 1.2 WAR in 249 PA last season. Sign Russ and promote Kirk. Option Jansen and game his service time. Frame McGuire for a second round of public masturbation and collect the insurance money.
  14. MLB gave Joe Kelly eight games which he appealed down to five. So much for precedent.
  15. For the second point I was talking about the fabled FRIAS, not TIPS. It's publicly available knowledge. Probably not common knowledge because who would really care!
  16. that was wild when they just stopped being friends i wonder what Stroman did
  17. lock up all three on the same day sell it to them based on non-monetary factors. think of the legacy guys! you came up together, you can make a dynasty together. super best friends.
  18. Is that Brandon Belt? Must feel nice since you've owned him for so long in the DDL. Finally playing up to his potential.
  19. Biggio is the guy to lock in now anyway, before his career WARz get too high.
  20. I would not completely hate it (or something like it) if it started in say the 13th inning during a regular season.
  21. The recent close losses really sting. Even though Toronto's playoff odds will still be listed at 60%+, Fangraphs now projects them to finish the season at an even 30-30 and the Tigers to finish at 29-31. That's soooo little wiggle room. Over a full 162 game season their projected final winning percentages would lead to 82 and 77 win totals respectively, so a lot more breathing room. Tigers have also called a bunch of useful youngsters up so it's not like they are trash. The last WC spot is basically a two team race.
  22. The ump absolutely should have tossed Chapman. MLB has been f***ing up discipline on these problems forever. The warning system they use is reeeeeeee-stupid. If an ump thinks it was probably intentional, toss the player. I don't see the logic in allowing one guy to do it on purpose, then warning everybody. These things carry over across seasons.
  23. I was trying to figure this out last night and watched a number of videos. Marco Estrada used to say that he would manipulate his leg drive on his changeup. Keeping the arm action the same is the whole point but I think he would drive less with his lower half to cleave off velocity. With Merryweather, I think he actually does something funny with his grip. If you grab a still frame when his arm is set, the ball appears to be sitting in the palm of his hand and his fingers aren't even touching the ball. I think he's doing a unique type of palmball changeup. It's like a circlechange/palmball. This might also explain why his changeup command is virtually non-existent (an abnormal amount of high changeups). It's rare but there have been guys historically who had larger than normal changeup differentials. Fernando Abad does.
  24. First, define the standard of proof. Consider in life that it is very hard to know ANYTHING with 100% certainty. You may be 99.9999% sure you are a man, but you in 10 years might not be so sure. You don't need to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. It's not a murder trial. You don't need Chapman's text to his teammates saying "I'm gonna bean Brousseau tonight". Proof on the balance of probabilities should be all that is required. Based on everything we know, is it more likely than not that it was intentional? It seems like it to me.
