  1. Okay so it makes more sense now. Rosenthal is saying Arenado would keep his opt out after 2021 and GAIN an opt out after 2022. The Rockies eating $50M probably only applies in some complicated way if he does not opt out... Or maybe some of it applies in 2021 regardless. We will see. That would justify the s***** return because STL likely only gets one year of Arenado.
  2. None of it makes sense. Either the cumulative reporting is in error OR the Rockies are just making an all time horrible deal. We will see tomorrow.
  3. Get German Marquez!!!!! Trade Groshans
  4. Jesus f***ing Christ... Did the Rockies get desperate? Did Arenado get desperate? I did not expect him to restructure his contract..
  5. Projections exist and they are smarter than you and I
  6. You can say whatever you want. It doesn't make it right. We care about how good the players will be going forward, not what their ERAs were last year
  7. Every team is going to be very worried about innings increases from 2020. At this point it seems like Toronto is planning on using a huge line of starters and moving people in and out of the pen/rotation (or up and down from AAA) all year. And doing lots of piggyback games. And skipping turns. Don't expect any 33 games started or 180+ IP guys
  8. Lol, no he wouldn't. He might even be their sixth best behind Ryu, Pearson, Stripling, Matz, and Ray. Really it would just be a five way tie for second best. Walker would just be another body in the pile.
  9. As far as I can tell, many teams are skeptical of his defense so the point that they don't think of him as an OF on any future contract. The talent comparison is JD Martinez of three years ago. That means the open NL DH question has severely chilled his market. There are also exactly zero competitive AL teams looking to land a big money DH/LF.
  10. Hard to tell. Uniform vs. gym clothes. He looks like a fatty in both videos, sorry. Not that there's anything wrong with him. Captain Kirk is fine the way he is.
  11. I don't get the excitement. He looks like s***
  12. They are attempting a skinny rebuild. Shed payroll and get some farm injections but still try to sneak into the playoffs.
  13. Really cool that he keeps finding a way to help that team. I thought Wainwright was done four or five years ago. 2015 - achilles rupture at 33... career over? 2017 - bad ERA, velo below 90... career over? 2018 - elbow inflammation keeps him down for a long time... career over? 2020 - pandemic that kills old people... will he survive?
  14. Yeah it was recently mentioned that Merryweather has an extra option for some arcane reason. Not that he should be in AAA... he might be the team's best reliever/opener.
  15. Diaz is a way better arm. He was 60 FB against the O's in that one game, with a hard changeup that flashed some wicked movement. I could see him developing into a useful reliever. In Japan.
  16. I don't even know why people think SRF has good reliever potential anymore. It's like a 55 velo fastball out of the pen, no command, and I don't even think he has good spin. It's AAA stuff. I think he's cooked.
  17. He's nothing like the Jays other targets. Matz has a traditional pitch mix and has shown strikeout ability and control, Robbie Ray has been a very good starter before and has extreme K ability. Chad Kuhl is like the type of guys Toronto would acquire to stick in the pen. He's basically Tyler Chatwood.
  18. This is not a good analysis. Anectodal reasoning is so tempting but it's just not very persuasive in baseball - there are hundreds of active pitchers and thousands of historic pitchers, you can find examples for every mold. I don't care that a couple of SPs succeed with s***** fastballs, or just one dominant offspeed pitch. Kuhl's odds of pulling it off are extremely low, just like every other pitcher in history with a mediocre fastball and a plus breaking ball - the vast majority of those guys are relievers. I mean you could argue that Kuhl is already performing beyond expectations by being an above replacement level starter. Look, in 2020 he tried it. FB% plummeted to just 44%; he was throwing offspeed stuff over half the time. The result was the worst walk rate of his career, worst HR rate, and therefore his worst FIP.
  19. So does Kyle Drabek. He's only 33, I wonder what he's up to?
  20. Are you related to Chad Kuhl? I don't get the obsession. He seems to objectively be a boring, low upside SP #5 who might even be more productive in the bullpen. I can't see any argument for him having more upside than Matz. Matz nuked the minors and has shown flashes of run prevention, strikeout ability, and strike throwing in the majors. Kuhl was a low K minor leaguer who grunts his way to an okay ERA with s***** K/BB ratio, on the strength of a good slider and a mediocre FB with two seam movement. He looks like a reliever who has been asked to start out of necessity and is making it work.
  21. Yeah the fanbase may be sleeping on some of the young depth. Now many of the depth names suck or have low upside but there are a handful that could be good. Kay, Borucki, Hatch, Merryweather, Thornton, SWR, Murray... and how far away is Manoah?
  22. You'll need to wait until the offseason is over. They could still add a solid SP. Even if they don't, they could at the trade deadline. Right now Toronto is in a 4 way tie for 8th in projected SP fWAR. Their strength is depth, which should benefit them over a long season, but they obviously lack the playoff punch of a true #1 and #2 starter tandem.
  23. Is Groshans the new Biggio? Keith Law top 100 came out today. Pearson, Martin, Manoah, Orelvis, and Kirk all ranked.... No Jordan Groshans!
  24. This is a projected upgrade on the 2021 roster though. SRF and Diaz are about replacement level, Matz is about a 1 WAR guy. The realistic upside of both SRF and Diaz is 0.5 WAR reliever, Matz' upside is 3 win SP
