  1. I think you could make the argument that Toronto only needs to add 1 SP this winter, and there's no point in doing so unless that guy is a sure SP3 or better. Dickey Morrow Buehrle Happ Hutch Stroman Nolin Rogers? Well, I dunno. Maybe that argument would be pretty bad. The depth will be there but the top end production will be a massive question mark. If you look at mean outcomes down the list, you probably have: SP3, hurt/SP4, SP4, SP5, SP5, SP5/RP, SP5, SP5/RP.
  2. AA was at his best when he was trying to be efficient. That's when we saw stuff like the Morrow, Escobar, Rasmus, and Lawrie acquisitions. Even smaller stuff like getting Davis, Villa, and Delabar. Put him at the max of his budget and he's probably a better GM. Give him money and he's shown that he has absolutely no idea how to effectively use it.
  3. The scenario: You have fourteen million dollars. Improve the team. The solution: I don't know what it is, but I know that it's definitely NOT "give it all to Josh Johnson".
  4. How about two guys for 7 million? Preferably ones that aren't made of glass. I'm not going to make hypothetical signings. There is a list of all free agents on mlbtr. There are plenty of names.
  5. I'm not really sure if bringing back Josh Johnson would be the best appropriation of 14 million dollars. Actually, I am sure. It's not a good use. If he's going to accept the QO, then don't offer it. And yeah, I'm well aware of what his xFIP is.
  6. You sir, are a mess.

Nonis 5 year extension Because spending 60 million on Tyler Bozak and David Clarkson, and trading for a redundant goalie = good GMing

  9. There's a problem though. MLB wants to suspend these guys without positive tests. They don't have the tests, but they do have a mountain of convincing evidence and witnesses to bring out. I'm not sure what the language is in the CBA, but it's probably hard for MLB to suspend a player without a positive test, which is why they are trying to get the players to agree to a suspension in light of everything else that they can hang on them. But that begs the question of, on what ground would MLB be able to suspend ARod for life? If they can't just justifiably slap a suspension on him for the Biogenesis stuff, because of the current CBA language, then how could they justifiably slap a lifetime ban on him? It all seems kind of weird. Seems kind of like a purposely leaked bluff by Major League Baseball. If I'm ARod, I'm saying "fine, you got me, give me my 50 games and we'll settle this issue".
  10. No. Consider JPA to be a professional baseball player, not just an MLB player. Compare him to everyone in the entire world who gets paid anything to play baseball. He's in a very small percentile, even if he's a replacement level MLBer.

  12. I don't think we explicitly addressed that in the rules. It might make sense to have the waiver draft snake, since the s***** teams already get the top picks in every round of the minor league draft + the top picks in the waiver draft (where all the big ticket guys go anyway). So it might make sense in the waiver draft to throw the good teams a very tiny bone.... I don't really care though; whatever the people want.
  13. The drafts from here on out are definitely not snake drafts.
  14. Jesus F'ing Christ. You just wrote an essay because Andrew Stoeten called you an insufferable sour puss. Get over it? p.s. this is exactly what an insufferable sour puss would do when called out as an insufferable sour puss. They would write a brief yet insufferable composition full of sour puss, all over the place. The Blue Jays suck and AA isn't the franchise savior. Blah blah blah. Now go outside and get some sun.
  15. Meh. Trading good/decent big leaguers and building org depth is the easy part. The payroll flexibility that they'll have on the upswing will definitely help though.
  16. If only I had a nickle for every time that kirksaw tried to sound smart/informed and failed...
  17. Does it even count though when more than half the league gets to dance? The 2nd round is where they hand out the ribbons.
  18. Agreed. At least you don't live in Toronto. The Blue Jays are only 1/3 of the suckage iceberg.
  19. That's what he's said publicly, since the trade. AA would never lie to the fans and pay his own players lip service, right? If AA even likes Gose that much, he probably gives him the LF job rather than signing Melky.
  20. Or maybe Miami/New York simply insisted on the right guys.
  21. When does MLB.tv normally drop down to ~10 dollars or whatever?
  22. Ryan Braun auction? I'll bid one whole Brandon Belt and half of a Jon Niese.
  23. The Yanks have an insane amount of players/money coming off the books this winter. Cano, Robinson $15,000,000 FA Granderson, Curtis $15,000,000 FA Kuroda, Hiroki $15,000,000 FA Pettitte, Andy $12,000,000 FA Youkilis, Kevin $12,000,000 FA Rivera, Mariano $10,000,000 FA Hughes, Phil $7,150,000 FA Logan, Boone $3,150,000 FA Hafner, Travis $2,000,000 FA Chamberlain, Joba $1,875,000 FA Overbay, Lyle $1,250,000 FA TOTAL = $94,425,000 They'll give Cano ~25 per and still have a f*** ton of cash to throw around.
  24. 7/10. 8.5/10 given the context
  25. Absolute robbery.... and I don't like Mike Olt very much at all.
