  1. Are oblique injuries just a Canadian thing? http://m.mlb.com/video/v34482861/minsea-saunders-exits-game-after-check-swing-in-8th/?query=Michael+Saunders
  2. Best offseason ever.
  3. The defensive value that you see on Fangraphs includes the positional adjustment, which is -12.5 runs per 600PA for 1B. His UZR/150 games is pretty much zero - which means he's an average first baseman. I don't know why Fangraphs changed their default defensive display. It made more sense IMO to just show UZR so you could see defensive skill at their given position in any one year. Scouts like Smoak even more than that though I think. He had/has a rep as a very good defensive 1B.
  4. Part of me just wants to see a more talented player at first base, but if they make upgrades at a couple of the 2B/LF/RP holes then I'd be fine with Smoak and honestly, I'm kind of intrigued about how he would do in a full season at the Rogers Centre. Also, it'll be nice to have a decent defensive 1B with the way Reyes' throws are spraying around at this point in his career. I think Donaldson is a bit of a loose cannon as well. With Smoak's tiny salary, he's still highly mobile and even viable as a bench player.
  5. nu-uh. In runs per 600 PA, the positional adjustments add up to -30 either way (-12.5 1B and -17.5 DH). Doesn't matter who is playing where. You can put Smoak at first and have a neutral 1B, or you can bleed 11 runs with Edwin. Smoak @ 1B = -12.5 defensive value + Edwin @ DH = -17.5 defensive value = -30 for the team. Edwin @ 1B = -23.5 defensive value + Smoak @ DH = -17.5 defensive value = -41 for the team /MATH
  6. Is UZR of any real utility for first basemen? EE: -11.6 runs per 150 games, career. Smoak: 0 runs per 150 games, career. Jays would benefit by roughly 1 full win by playing Smoak @ first everyday and keeping Edwin off the field. That extra 2%!
  7. Doesn't seem outlandish for a 185 lb man that was running ~16 mph. I didn't even take Physics in high school though, ha. I mean if you simply dropped him from a meter or two, the force of impact would probably be over 1000 pounds....
  8. I was insulting Sport Science, not Min Science. I'd assume that Min Science would be much more cleverer. They'd probably only make videos every 11 months though.
  9. lol, Sports Science is so dumb. I like the part where they told us how long his arm is.
  10. This is an excellent, excellent minor league signing. Carrera is a perfectly viable CF backup defensively, he's got plus speed, and he's actually shown some decent hitting ability in the minors. If Pompey flops, a Pillar/Carrera platoon in CF probably doesn't sink the team.
  11. Both the 14 year old super douche Wesley and the Rodriguez guy that he's referencing are just playing reporter on twitter. They either "report" something 5 minutes after someone else had the scoop, or they just blatantly make s*** up based on some rumour from earlier that day. It's pretty funny actually.
  12. Maybe I need to be more explicit. I'm just razzing him, boxy. hashtagRazzing hashtagRazzleDazzle hashtagDDL
  13. He's not that much better than Melky. Maybe not even better. Maybe worse!!!! Also not that cheap... arb4 this year and made over $7M in 2014. Salary + prospects = real cost for a mediocre dude.
  14. http://stores.wholesalecentral.com/Images/0Q5S50OJ6PMWULMO4GOMF0343MVCIA/8593355328.jpg
  15. Also, I persistently offered you Utley for Peavy which would have solved basically all of your problems but you were so f***ing afk that I traded him to Boxy (ugh).
  16. Just in case you were wondering.... literally all of your pitchers are 40 and possibly retiring mid-season, and about 4 of your starting position players have become utter s***, even for a 20 team league. The bolded names suck! 2nd Leg to Stanton (therealmin - TRM) BATS Yasmani Grandal Ryan Howard Kelly Johnson Josh Donaldson Erick Aybar Adam Jones Matt Holliday Michael Cuddyer Hanley Ramirez Alex Rios Giancarlo Stanton Martin Prado ARMS Dan Haren RA Dickey Kyle Kendrick Robbie Erlin Hiroki Kuroda Craig Kimbrel Tyler Clippard Jonathan Broxton Luke Gregerson Joe Nathan CJ Wilson Jeff Samardzija Jake Peavy Bartolo Colon
  17. Well look at this s*** bird that decided to pop in...
  18. Depends on how his partial season goes this year. If he leads the league in ERA and starter K/9 and adds those accomplishments to his ROY, 3rd place CYA finish in 2013... hard to say.
  19. Yeah but Medlen's came two years later. He was perfectly healthy in 2012 and 2013. I just cannot for the life of me understand why a team that itself publicly states that it needs pitching won't just give Medlen a few million. But, maybe they have an agreement to sign him back for some tiny incentive laden contract or something.
  20. Lincecum settled for $9M in first year I think, with the team filing at 8 and him filing for 12. Ryan Howard's first year was $10M I think. Certainly Fernandez would be awarded something more than $4M, if he continues to be a phenom.
  21. Holy f***, Braves non-tender Beachy AND Medlen. Medlen could probably get a f***ing multi year deal right now. It was just TJS. Beachy a bit different because the TJS came while recovering from an initial TJS, so he'll just get a flyer contract from someone.
  22. Definitely more. More like Lincecum's.
  23. Jesus Christ the Cardinals are annoyingly smart. Matt Belisle for 1 year, $3.5M. Guy has been very stellar for a half decade in Colorado and his FIP and velocity were just fine last year.
  24. Trade for Fleury!
