It also seems like a given that in any signing period going forward, now that the strategy is firmly out of the bag, several teams will have decided to go all out, so there's no guarantee that you can simply open the wallet and bag two or three of the top five talents, or anything like that. What you can probably hope that Toronto does though is something like a simmered down version of New York from this signing period - just go crazy on a bunch of guys in the six digits bonus range. I think New York signed like 30 guys... -

North is right "If a prospect is cut from an MiLB roster before being promoted, that prospect can be picked up as a free agent from the Yahoo database (if at AA or higher) or drafted in the next MiLB draft (as long as they have never played an MLB game)." So yes, Naquin could be added by someone after the draft. Can't see why they would want to but they can!

Is that how we did it last year? Maybe I'm misremembering my own rules, but I thought a guy who hit AA in the previous year could be promoted or waiver drafted, but not added as a free agent unless they actually got called up.

IIRC the Jays have had a domestic draft budget of around $10M in the past few seasons, but this year they only have ~$5M. If all they do is move amateur purchasing funds from one arena to the other, look for them to spend around $8M on international kids this summer/fall (they should get something like $3M in international slot money).

I'd actually be a bit surprised if Kang goes before 6th. Dinger will want a likely contributor, not a long term upside play, and Kang seems a bit too old for Gibbers, who already owns several boom or bust infielders. Does KK regret trading pick #5 if he would have had a shot at Kang there?

Can't say that I dig using #3 on Montero. Even if you're optimistic about him, there are other projects out there with better profiles.
