  1. No attitude intended. I just personally like Goins as a back up option over Kawasaki, especially when defense is more relevant in a back up role.
  2. Another thing is i find it odd that there are so many on here that are quick to reply / defend posts addressed to BTS,opposed to anyone else. If you skim through this whole thread,it's alarming.
  3. I watched that game ending DP several times and watched enough ball in my day to come to a rational conclusion that the likes of Izturis,deRosa or Kawasaki would not of turned that DP. Mainly due to the fact they lack the arm strength and pivot skills. What do you think?
  4. L o f***ing L
  5. " He might have a better glove and that's it." Is that all? Kawasaki wasn't tearing it up in AAA either .
  6. You seriously think Kawasaki is a better option at 2B? For real? That statement is just as ludicrous as the way you would perceive the notion of Goins being the starting second baseman,if not worse.
  7. Sarcasm. You mentioned in one of your earlier posts that Goins would regress to a 80 wRC + with a 30% K rate to go with it. The way Goins turned that DP to end the game is more evidence that his D is upper level MLB caliber. I think him being on the 25 man next year is pretty much a lock, barring injury. Nobody else in the organization ( AA / AAA ) turns that game ending DP. Check it out.
  8. Nobody else in the organization turns that DP.
  9. Yup. That 30% K rate is looking pretty awful also.
  10. Pillar really showing his inexperience not swinging at that 3-1 cookie.
  11. True and sad.
  12. Really? That's pretty impressive. I thought my 2 for 2 was something special, lol.
  13. Well,2B will have to upgraded via the trade route. Kendrick will mean salary swapping (which isn't happening) unless Buehrle's late season emergence is enough for the Angels to make that trade, although giving up 200 innings will be hard to part with. Maybe the Astros would be willing to give up Altuve for young pitching in return, otherwise not much else out there. Omar Infante could be interesting maybe on a 2 year (4-5mil per),but his .04 dWAR is discouraging. Izturis would have to be unloaded.
  14. If you actually listen to commentary during games then you would know. Buck mentioned a while back that the Rays' organization approached Loney and told him to be the type of hitter he is more comfortable with, opposed to the Dodgers wanting him to hit for more power.
  15. Well we all know the recipe for winning in any sport starts with defense. Goins plays plus defense at a premium position while Thames, well you know.
  16. Really? Like the way the Rays' organization assessed Loney?
  17. Of course not because advanced stats hold true for the most part. The thing is,sometimes players with good fundamental bases can prosper with different types of applications (scenery, coaching, maturity or whatever). If there is no base, there is no hope. Being just an overall smart person and work ethic also helps.
  18. Thanks for the link, and i skimmed through it. For myself,i like the old fashioned way of assessing a player. It all starts with pitch recognition, being able to put yourself in a hitter's count as frequent as possible. We all know how dramatic the league batting average is from being up 1-0 instead of 0-1. Being up 2-0 or 3-1 is even more dramatic. I also look at body language when taking a pitch, that also says a lot. Does the hitter keep his head and front shoulder in through his swing long enough? Line drive rate? Basically if a hitter has the ability to hit the ball hard consistently, the numbers will follow. It's a simple game and i like viewing it in a simply based, fundamental manner.
  19. I always thought it meant Batting Average on Balls in Play. I don't know all the specifics. That would explain i'm not a statistically fueled nerd.
  20. I guess not.
  21. WTF is it with all this BABIP fueled ********? Somebody else quoted that Pillar's BABIP was something like .220 and comparing the two like Goins is so much more luckier. Don't you think the reason on why Goins' BABIP is a lot higher is because he put himself in hitter's counts more often? Pitch recognition is a skill set and Goins earned those hitter's counts against quality pitching and is obviously taking advantage. Some of it is luck obviously, but that applies to every hitter. Please don't undermine what he has done so far, your not being fair.
  22. How about we just let the kid play and try and prove himself. What do ya think?
  23. Please don't bring the casual camels into this.
