    Is it possible that Shapiro is planning on bringing in Francona and this is what he and AA can't agree on? I can see AA being a pussy regarding letting Gibby go, since he was his choice over that long hard thought out process, especially after making it to the ALCS. Now that I think about it, there's a really good chance of this being the case.

    That's fair. All a GM like AA can do is try to acquire players that carry the reputation and then hope for the best.

    C'mon bro, DeRosa and Visquel were not brought in to be major factors on the field, you know that. Players like Donaldson, Martin, Estrada were brought in to perform on the field, but also carry a reputation of being good clubhouse guys. I don't know how much you can actually credit AA in these terms, or maybe it was just a coincidence / luck that the players he acquired all meshed. We'll never know how much influence chemistry had on these acquisitions.

    It may seem silly, but it exists. The argument is how much does chemistry actually effect success on the field. I'm not saying a team filled with a bunch of Mark DeRosa's is a 90 win team, but it's those combo talent / work ethic types with above average personalities that can help bond a team are the type of players AA will now be targeting. Just staring at spreadsheets searching for "value" only will not be implemented from here on in, and i applaud it.

    He was obviously a good friend but wasn't very professional. The dude would be laughing hysterically in the dugout during games, no matter what the situation was. How the f*** can a team consistently keep their game faces on when one of the most talented / highest paid players is a clown?

    So you know what goes on off the field and in the actual clubhouse, road team meals, etc..? I'm just going on what AA stated in his press conference, which by the way is known to exist since the game began. Combo talent / character guys are the obvious way to go, be it takes patience and hard work to obtain it.
