  1. We shouldn't really compare American vs Canadian legal systems here as there are some notable differences. In America, the plaintiff/victim is the one who decides if they want to press charges; in Canada, it's the Crown. If there is sufficient evidence to charge Osuna, then he will be charged even if his girlfriend doesn't ultimately want that. So while Reyes' girlfriend may have wanted the charges to be dropped when cooler heads prevailed, that won't happen here, the charges can only be dropped if the evidence is insufficient.
  2. It's a bit odd that Bichette still hasn't homered this year, but after watching him crack that laser oppo shot in spring training, I'm not worried. There is easily 20-25 HR power in that batspeed.
  3. I wouldn't really mind if Vlad was a bit thicker if he stayed on top of it and made some progress over time. I will say however that he appears to have gotten fatter over time, which probably isn't the trajectory we want him on. It's easy to not care right now because he's young and murdering baseballs, but it isn't a good thing.
  4. And not having him for the first month (or two) of 2019 isn't that big of a deal, it will likely be the least competitive season of the entire Vlad era.
  5. Oh damn, I forgot teams can force players to sign extensions against their will.
  6. Because if the team is good enough to compete for a wildcard without him then we can take advantage of the extra roster flexibility, use Vlad for September and the playoffs, then supress his ST next spring long enough to get the extra year. I don't care about Super 2, but by god we aren't burning that year.
  7. I'm all for deep-sixing Morales, but I don't agree that Vlad is going to provide enough value over and above the likes of Alford to make this worthwhile. Vlad alone doesn't take this team to 95 wins. This guy is our franchise cornerstone, there's no sense in burning a year of control for the sake of the 2018 season. There is no path to this 2018 team winning a World Series with or without Vlad.
  8. I'm surprised at the number of intelligent posters here who are advocating calling him to the effect of maybe a 1 win upgrade, thereby sacrificing a whole year of control in his prime. The Jays had a surprising start to the season and are now looking like the .500 team that we thought they were. We'll see Vlad in September, everyone needs to calm down and accept that this is not going to be a championship contention year.
  9. Loving it. I still see .300/30 seasons in his future.
  10. Matt Harvey DFA Boy that was a long fall from the top.
  11. Tercer gets unlimited bragging rights in perpetuity, there is a lot at stake here.
  12. I accept the new world order where Juan Soto is a true talent 250 wRC+ bat with .400 ISO and three walks for every k. All hail Overlord Soto, the Dominican Barry Bonds.
  13. That's fine, as long as you know how much of a Boxy you're being.
  14. I was trolling, he's a god. Acuna forever. He'll single-handedly turn my TAKL season around.
  15. Another bomb for him today, now slashing .315/.434/.543. The K/BB is outstanding. If he can hit around .270, he could wind up around .390/.500 which would make me one very happy owner. The raw power was always there but he made some changes this spring to shorten up his swing and it seems to be paying dividends with his pitch selection.
  16. as with the Phillies they're unlikely to take Madrigal given their MLB middle-infield duo. Drafting for need in the Top 5???
  17. Wow does Yu Darvish ever SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx now
  18. That's gonna be a sprained wrist DL stint for Pillar.
  19. Lol calm down BTS... Cruze 2:11 Is Juan Soto the next prospect to ascend to the Vlad/Acuna tier? Kiley McDaniel 2:12 Not quite that level of tools, but could turn into 60 bat/power and 50 D in RF. Short track record so waiting to see a bit more, but there's top 10-15 overall prospects (60-65 FV) that are that type of player.
  20. Because it's still good value and because he could go on an absolute tear when he comes back and still get more than that and because this represents the best chance to re-sign him. We are the only team that can negotiate with him right now. Surely you understand basic concepts of exclusivity and leverage. If he goes to free agency, chances are he will go to another team that offers him equal money to the Jays. Right now, he's more likely to take the guaranteed money in case his season really goes in the crapper.
  21. He's lost 3 MPH off his heater so I'm gonna go with injured. Still injured. Usually/always injured. TJS by the All-Star Break.
  22. He'll start 2019 with SS in Yahoo, without a doubt, and then probably earn 2B by May 2019 since DJLM is a free agent. From there he just needs to start SS at 5 games when Story is sitting to get it again for 2020, which seems very doable, and/or overtake Story on the depth chart which is also plausible since Story isn't actually good. The Rockies are splitting Rodgers' time in AA across 2B, SS, and 3B right now, sort of the Gleyber Torres deal.
