I don't think that is necessarily true at all. Baseball was really set up to compensate (a bit less so with the new draft comp rules) small market teams. They have really just played that system like a fiddle and have had success. It helps a lot that there is no pressure to do otherwise. St Louis of course is the best org in baseball and they never did succumb to the pressure to sign Pujols....and they are better off and more rewarded without him.

Ok. I know I'm tempting fate here posting this.... especially considering we start the season in Tampa, where we could easily go 0-3.... But I am feeling a lot better about this team then I was a week ago. And I think Montreal did it for me..... yip meaningless spring training games had meaning for me. I'm liking that.... Mark Buehrle seems like he is in mid-season form and may not have the same disastrous April/ May he had last year. Yeah, he's not that great, but all I want is a good 7 innings where he keeps us in the game. I'm liking D-mac at number 5. Yeah is arm just might fall off mid-game... But I'm so glad it's not Rogers or Happ. I loved Morrow's start. Not completely awesome... but a huge step up from what he has been showing. Loved Sanchez... though I'm assuming his outing is scaring most others that think the Jays will bring him up to early. Love how Lind, Baustista, EE, Lawrie and Cabrera have performed thus far. And even though Goins went 1 for 5 in Montreal.... I liked most of his bats.... and gives me hope he won't be a complete black hole in the order.

I kinda think the Jays knew this to be the plan all along.... maybe not Jansen.... but someone.... and I guess they assume some other reliever is going to have to go on the dll in the next 2 weeks.... and Kratz will be able to stay up. Maybe they were expecting to sneak Jeffries through.... but after he pitched well his last outing, assumed it would be impossible.

You are probably right. I just think his defense is soooo god dam good.... and I mean, really, really good. I also thought he was really squaring the ball up the last few games. I think there is an ok chance he can be an only slightly below average hitter.... and that is fine with me on an otherwise really offensively gifted team.

Jim Negrych played out of his skin for about 3 months last year and never got a call (that I wanted... and apparently he has since fallen off the earth). As horrible as it is watching JPA play... he deserved a long look.... and he's the Rangers starting catcher this year (due to injury)... so it wasn't a horrible decision to give him a year... maybe it was giving him two years.... Thames was a big mistake over Snider.... but they did turn Thames into something.... and Thames did have one sweet swing. I don't have an issue with Goins and Sierra.... yeah the bench is really thin.. and they could both turn out to be awful. BTW... I wonder what Goin's value would be if he had Sierra's bat.

Of course you do. Look who wrote it. But you are right... It was a good post. It is just the sheer conviction he uses when writing off a player like Gomes... or Goins for that matter that is a bit irksome. You could all read his old posts about Gomes.... apparently he was pure garbage who would amount to nothing... I guess because a stat sheet somewhere told him so... then of course the 9 or 10 guys that polish his knob where all over that and called him waste as well.... and we know how it turned out.

That is a really good post and I would like to see AA address it.

Anyway... I just noticed Montreal has like 4 times the population of Tampa Bay. Didn't know that.
