Ok so get creative and find a way to shed payroll then! Structure 3 way deals involving us unloading Happ or Rasmus while receiving a better SP in return. Throw Happ into a deal with a few of our better prospects to land a good pitcher... His salary would offset the incoming salary quite nicely... It's not impossible. AA appeared to thrive in the past when he was under strict budget limitations (although I've heard first hand accounts that this might actually not be true). He only seemed to make ridiculous moves when he had payroll flexibility to play with. There are always ways to improve your club.

The Houston Rockets reportedly are willing to trade "almost anything" for New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. Houston is said to have offered Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin and either a first round draft pick or Terrence Jones, according to Basketball Insider's Steve Kyler. Houston is serious about their pursuit of Anthony, who can opt out of his contract and become a free agent on July 1. "Houston would trade almost anything not named Dwight Howard and James Harden to get at Anthony and they would go all in on a contract too," Kyler wrote on Tuesday. "There has been talk that Houston has offered up Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin in a 'give away' trade that could include their draft pick in the first round or a roster player like Terrence Jones to get those salaries off the books." -- Melo, Harden, and Howard That has disaster written all over it. Two ball hogs and a guy who chokes consistently in crunch time.

On a slightly related note, is anyone else super irritated that they haven't converted Drabek to a reliever yet? He has the stuff and the velocity to stick in the pen. I have no idea why they keep trying him as a starter. He doesn't have the mental makeup to be able to handle it. We need help and he could be a boost.

Exactly. You can find a way to get the both of them into the game on a regular basis. When is Rasmus even due back? Probably not something we have to even think about for a few weeks anyway. -

Rasmus CFer, Gose 4th OFer. He'll still get plenty of playing time. You're kidding yourself if you think Gose will keep hitting like this. Rasmus is the better hitter. Gose offers a huge weapon off the bench with his speed and D. I'm probaby off the "re-sign Rasmus" bandwagon at this point unless we get him for a very reasonable deal.. but I think people are too quick to forget about how good he was last year. He's still a very good CFer. He can go on a power streak with the best of them. -
