Notes:
Series/General Notes:
This year's Pirates vs. Reds rivalry has included a lot of hit by pitches. 28 batters were struck between these two teams, so don't be surprised if tempers flair in this game.
Johnny Cueto and Francisco Liriano both hail from the Dominican Republic. There is something significant about this, as this is the 3rd time in postseason history where two DR starters face off. The feat was achieved twice by Pedro Martinez and Bartolo Colon in 1999 and 2004.
Pirates:
Ever since the Pirates hit the 70 win mark, things started to regress a bit, going .500 the rest of the way (24-24). They did, however, make a strong statement at the end of the year winning 5 of their final 6 games of the season.
The Pirates had the upper hand this season, going 11-8 against the Reds. They were 5-4 at PNC Park vs. the Reds.
Francisco Liriano has been lights out this season at home, going 8-1 with a 1.47 ERA
Reds:
Johnny Cueto has had great success in his career against the Pirates. Actually great is an understatement, he went 13-4 with a 2.37 ERA in 21 starts against Pittsburgh with an even better line at PNC Park of 8-2 with a 1.90 ERA.
