Jays: Dickey is 3-2 with a 3.72 ERA in seven starts against Tampa Bay since joining Toronto last year. Toronto is seeking to capture its first series at Tampa Bay since taking two of three April 6-8, 2007. The Blue Jays are 19-48 at Tropicana Field since then, losing 18 series and splitting the other two. Rays: Price is 14-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 18 starts against the Blue Jays, including 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 10 outings at home. The Rays will arrive at the All-Star break with their worst record since 2007 (43-53). This weekend's three-game series against Toronto will conclude a stretch of 17 straight games against teams over .500 heading into the All-Star break. Jays: Drew Hutchison is 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA in two starts against Tampa Bay this year. Hutchison owns a 2.43 ERA on the road compared to a 6.75 mark at home. The Blue Jays announced Friday that R.A. Dickey would start Sunday's series finale against the Rays -- Toronto's last game before the All-Star Break -- in place of J.A. Happ. Gibbons said it was because of Dickey's success at Tropicana Field. Because of the Blue Jays' off-day Thursday, Dickey would be pitching on normal rest. Rays: Odorizzi was scheduled to start Sunday but will move up to pitch on regular rest. His lone start against the Blue Jays was in his club debut May 20, 2013, as he allowed three runs in five innings and did not get a decision in a 7-5 loss. The right-hander's identical 2-4 records at home and away don't tell the whole story of how he's pitched. He is limiting opponents to a .199 batting average with a 2.73 ERA at home compared to .312 and 6.10 marks on the road. Former Toronto catcher Jose Molina has been behind the plate the last two games for the Rays in place of Ryan Hanigan, who has soreness in his left side. Another former Blue Jay, shortstop Yunel Escobar, went 1 for 3 with a walk in his return Friday after missing 15 games with a shoulder injury. Jays: Buehrle recorded victories in two earlier matchups with Tampa Bay, limiting them to three earned runs over 15 1-3 innings. He was one out shy of a shutout and struck out a season-high 11 in a 3-0 win in his season debut at Tropicana Field on April 2. The Blue Jays were 38-24 with a six-game lead after June 6, with 14 games separating them and the last-place Rays. They've since gone 10-21 and have been overtaken by Baltimore, while Tampa Bay has closed within 6 1/2 games of Toronto. Reliever Aaron Loup gave up the go-ahead homer to Albert Pujols in the seventh inning after not allowing a home run in 59 straight relief appearances. Rays: Archer takes the mound for Tampa Bay having pitched at least seven innings in three straight starts. He beat Detroit 7-2 on Saturday, yielding both runs on solo homers over a season-best 8.1 innings. Tampa Bay has won 11 of 15, though it was 3 for 18 with runners in scoring position while dropping two of three to Kansas City. The Rays were 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position in Wednesday's 5-4 loss and Kirby Yates surrendered a three-run homer to Salvador Perez in the ninth. The Rays are expecting shortstop Yunel Escobar to return from the disabled list for Friday's opener against the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field. Escobar has been on the DL with right shoulder soreness, and played two games in a rehab assignment with Class A Advanced Charlotte on Tuesday and Wednesday. 11. I was factoring the fact if McCarthy's arm decides to die in August or something Meh you have a point, but isn't Morrow due to be back soon? That will push Happ into that depth position soon. The biggest thing I was looking at when I saw McCarthy is how much he's owed, and I know Arizona is paying a portion if his salary, but I was under the impression that the payroll has heavy constraints atm
  12. Yes, but looking at it from that perspective, JA Happ's info from Steamer the rest of the way is a 4.51 ERA and a 4.59 FIP. Factoring in that McCarthy hasn't had a fully healthy season in the past few years, JA Happ seems to be equal to him or just slightly worse. McCarthy is not the upgrade we are looking for and acquiring him would be just a hit on our payroll if anything.
  13. I don't know why you guys are so amped about McCarthy. The dude's going to have a bad time in the AL East. If you guys think his BABIP and HR/9 are unsustainable then the same thing could be said about his career high K/9 and his career high GB%. Dudes moving from the NL West, arguably the best division for a pitcher, to the AL East, the complete opposite, in ballparks if anything

Jays: Stroman is 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA in seven starts after another solid outing Friday, when he allowed three hits and struck out seven in seven innings of Toronto's 1-0, 12-inning loss at Oakland. Toronto also snapped a seven-game road losing streak while ending a five-game run for Los Angeles. Reyes's hitting .344 over his last 14, raising his average 20 points to .267 in the process. The Blue Jays snapped a seven-game road losing streak on Tuesday and are now 23-23 away from home this season. Angels: Wilson has allowed 16 runs in 13 innings over his last three starts after giving up six runs in 4 1-3 of Los Angeles' 7-6 win over Houston on Friday. Wilson went 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA in his first 10 starts, but he's dropped off dramatically while posting a 6.18 ERA in eight outings since. After the Angels made a 53-year climb back to the break-even mark, their stay lasted one day. Before Tuesday's loss, the Angels had a franchise record of 4272-4272-3, the first time they had reached .500 since opening its debut campaign 1-1 in 1961. The Angels saw their home winning streak come to an end at 11, one short of the franchise record set in 1967. Albert Pujols went hitless after going 10 for 17 with two homers and eight RBIs over his previous four. Jays: Dickey has a 3.74 ERA in his last five starts, but is 0-4 while being backed by three runs or fewer over the past four. That includes losing three straight road games despite a 2.82 ERA. He tossed a six-hitter Thursday, yielding two earned runs while the offense got just five hits - four singles - in a 4-1 loss at Oakland. The Blue Jays are hitting .178 while totaling 10 runs during a seven-game road losing streak. They last dropped eight in a row from Aug. 7-25, 2012. Angels: Weaver wasn't sharp while emerging with a 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, giving up five runs and nine hits - two homers - in 5.2 innings. He is 9-2 with a 3.48 ERA in 11 career starts against Toronto, winning four in a row at home behind a 1.99 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. LA have surged to baseball's best home record at 31-14 with a staggering 20-2 stretch that includes a .296 batting average and 2.77 ERA. The Angels are looking to tie the team record of 12 consecutive home wins set in 1967. The offense, batting .311 during the streak, picked up the slack with 10 hits - four doubles - while Howie Kendrick and Albert Pujols continued punishing pitchers Kendrick has a .462 average with 10 RBIs over his last 10 home games, collecting three hits with one double and one RBI in Monday's opener of this three-game series. Pujols, meanwhile, if 16 for 29 while driving in 10 runs and scoring nine of his own in seven games at Anaheim after getting two hits with an RBI. Jays: Happ didn't get a decision Wednesday, allowing four runs in seven innings of a 7-4 victory over Milwaukee six days after collecting a season-high eight strikeouts in 7 2-3 of a 7-0 win over the White Sox. The Jays hit .180 and went 0 for 20 with runners in scoring position while being outscored 14-4 during a four-game series sweep at Oakland, losing the finale 4-2 on Sunday. That was enough for the Blue Jays to go from leading the division by one game on Baltimore to trailing the Orioles by two. Bautista is still trying to shake off the effects of a recent hamstring injury, and is 5 for 24 in six games since returning. LA are batting .295 with 22 homers and 6.1 runs per game during a 13-3 stretch. The Angels hit a whopping .353 with six homers and 29 runs while sweeping a four-game series from Houston, capping it with a 6-1 win Sunday behind Richards' 11 strikeouts in 7 1-3 innings. Albert Pujols went 9 for 16 with two homers and seven RBIs in that series after hitting .235 with one home run over the previous 13 games. With a win Monday, the Angels would have an all-time franchise record of 4272-4272-3. It would be the first time since 1961, when they were 1-1, that the Angels were at .500. Jays: Hutchison gave up one run and struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings of a 4-1 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday. He allowed eight runs over 10 1-3 innings while losing his previous two starts. Injured Encarnacion leads the Majors with 49 extra-base hits, ahead of the Angels' Mike Trout (48 entering Saturday). Adam Lind will take the place of Encarnacion, who has 26 homers and is tied for the major league lead with 70 RBIs. With their loss Thursday, the Blue Jays fell out of sole possession of first place in the AL East for the first time since May 21, dropping behind the Orioles on percentage points and now a full game back. Athletics: Shark will be making his A's debut and he last pitched June 28 when he gave up six runs - five earned - and seven hits in five innings of a 7-2 loss to Washington. Josh Donaldson, Yoenis Cespedes and Derek Norris were all in line to start the All-Star Game in advance of Sunday's roster announcement. The A's have not had a fan-elected player since 2000. Left-hander started Tommy Milone became a victim of numbers Saturday in the wake of Oakland's blockbuster trade with the Cubs, getting optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the 25-man roster for Samardzija. Jays: Buehrle has been backed by a combined nine runs during a five-start winless funk. The left-hander, who has pitched to a 3.44 ERA while going 0-4 over that stretch, hasn't suffered five consecutive defeats since 2010 with the Chicago White Sox. Buehrle is 8-13 with a 3.63 ERA lifetime versus the A's, but he's won his last four starts against them behind a 3.16 ERA. Coco Crisp and Alberto Callaspo are both 3 for 21 against Buehrle since 2009. Leadoff hitter Jose Reyes is 7 for 33 with just one run during Toronto's 2-5 slide. The Blue Jays had won 18 of 21 before posting a 9-17 record since June 7. With their loss Thursday, the Blue Jays fell out of sole possession of first place in the AL East for the first time since May 21, dropping behind the Orioles on percentage points. Athletics: Kazmir, who was tagged for a season-high seven runs over three innings in a 10-1 road loss to the New York Mets in his previous start June 24, has surrendered two runs or fewer in six of his last seven. Kazmir gave up three runs over seven innings in a 3-2 loss at Toronto on May 23, his first appearance against the Blue Jays since 2010. Oakland's Nick Punto entered the 12th mired in a 2-for-31 slump before connecting on what proved to be the game-winning double after Derek Norris scored from first on Melky Cabrera's fielding error. The A's are 20-7 at home since May 7, baseball's second-best record during that time. A's pitchers reached 653 strikeouts after Thursday's series opener, setting a franchise record for strikeouts before the All-Star break. Their previous record was 650, set last year.
