  1. Can't see it. He'd be taking a loss and it would be a struggle coming back mid season. Expect him to take the best deal available prior to season start.
  2. Agreed. Stroman >> McCutchen in value.
  3. Not hard to replace Bautista. An above average but declining hitter with s*** defense. I suspect Shatkins is looking at 2020 as the timing to be WS contenders again, around same time Martin and Tulo contracts expire.
  4. Matter of definition then. I certainly do not see 3/33 the way you do.
  5. Well if there's no one to spend $20M on in 2017, how about signing JD to a 4 year deal, $45M in 2017, $25M the other 3 years.... $30M AAV
  6. How much does EE want a ring, and does he see a better chance with Cleveland? At the end of the day, it looks like he got the same contract with the Indians that the Jays offered?
  7. Bad sign, yes. But $4M of $160M or $165M, not a big concern. Smoak is going to return some value, its not $8M of sunk cost.
  8. Value for money is a different question. Is 3/33 an expensive, long term contract? No, and no.
  9. There is always a market for a MVP type player
  10. Of course they are, doing what they can to convert declining assets into prospect capital. But not a true rebuild, with the payroll parameters they will be able to field a mediocre .500 team for a few years while the high performance team in Dunedin develops elite young talent.
  11. Pearce is an awesome signing. Not only is he a good baller, he can play multiple positions = very valuable trade bait at the deadline.
  12. Morales is just a warm body for the lineup for a few years. C'mon I can't be the only one that sees Shatkins is focussed on building up the farm as opposed to a contender for 2017?
  13. That's not what I wrote? It worked out well, but it was a perceived bad contract dump by the Pirates, no?
  14. Watch them trade for bad contracts coupled with prospects, a la Liriano deal.
  15. Indians are a damn strong team now, provided their SPs come back healthy. It's fairly obvious Shatkins is working to load up the farm. JB unlikely to be back. Jays 10 games under .500 at the break next season, JD as good as gone.
  16. Jose will need to sign for like 2/28 for the projected surplus value to be anywhere close to the value of the pick.
  17. If it doesn't look like they will get the draft pick, they probably will, or more.
  18. Back to that other douchebag, Bautista If Toronto can sign him to a one year deal for $18M with a 10/5 rights waiver, do it. Scenario 1 - Jays are contenders, he stays with the club for the season Scenario 2 - Jays are not contenders, Bautista rebounds, traded at the break for a high end prospect Scenario 3 - Jays are not contenders, Bautista has a replacement level season, traded at break for a lower tier prospect Works out for all parties?
  19. And ditch the Hottest Blue Jay thread for the Biggest *******
  20. Pearce is a fit too. C Martin 3B JD SS Tulo 2B Travis 1B EE LF Bautista CF Pillar RF Pearce DH Morales Upton, Smoak, Barney, Jimenez bench A strong, but quite old, lineup
  21. You don't wanna know. Probably uses a walker now.
  22. true they don't work as well as when Mrs. Cartwright and I fooled around in the school closet
