  1. that being the case it makes no sense to delay the announcement
  2. suspect the PTBNL depends on JD's performance, or games played.... with someone like Merryweather the guy if JD is healthy the rest of the season
  3. Had TJS in March 2018 And actually, a guy that had TJS in March is not really a candidate to help in a 'significant way' in 2019
  4. BA writeup after 2017 season Following a breakout 2016 season, Merryweather carried that momentum into 2017. After a strong start to the season with Double-A Akron, he was promoted to Triple-A at the end of May. While Merryweather's results suffered down the stretch with the Clippers, his stuff and peripherals remained strong. Merryweather has the stuff to start, but still is learning some of the finer points of pitching. His fastball sits in the mid 90s and regularly reaches 97 mph. His changeup can be an above-average pitch with fading action, but he will need to tighten the pitch up to get hitters to chase it more often. He throws both a curveball and a slider, which can be average offerings. He does a good job of using his 6-foot-4 frame to his advantage and works well down in the strike zone to create groundouts. He throws a lot of strikes and repeats his delivery well. Merryweather has the potential to be a starter in the big leagues, but he will be 26 on Opening Day and breaking into the Indians' already crowded rotation is no easy task. He'll start 2018 back at Columbus and have a chance to pitch his way into the mix in Cleveland.
  5. His history is with a team with a relatively low budget though.
  6. The idea that Shatkins is risk averse is dumb. No GM is going to take significant risks in a rebuild phase.
  7. it was obv JD was playing injured in April/May. it was discussed that JD was the one forcing the issue, it being his walk year. if the jays in fact mismanaged his recovery, he has every right to be pissed.
  8. New listeners need a reason to 'dial in'. Think of some hot topic(s) that will draw new listeners. Refer to these in the promotions.
  9. Yeah, FYSMC doesn't get directed at the other team, only
  10. metafour is right in one thing, the various diet crazes are scams. moderation and exercise, that's all. and lots of beer.
  11. Nah, a fair number of people believe in the 'food conspiracy'. Read some book written by a capitalist for chutzpahs. Moderation / balance wins.
  12. my hitters are on a hot streak King, you've got a chance
  13. It was so damn obvious after his 2017 2nd half that it was time to trade him. I don't get it. Is it true the Cards offered Flaherty+ ?
  14. Godammit. Losing JD for f*** all.
  15. Alford is the big wildcard. Has the talent to be a Lorenzo Cain type.
  16. Strange position for Shatkins to take. Must be something going on behind the scenes.
  17. Agreed. And for some reason a guy that is often overlooked.
  18. I wouldn't call the season he has had mediocre. His season has lowered expectations a tad, but age and performance considered he is still a top 10 MLB prospect.
  19. A #1 pitcher, one or two #1Bs, a reliable closer, at least 4 position players providing 4 WAR or better, no significant lineup holes, and reasonable depth will have the Jays competing with the big boys.
  20. ummm.... just look at the elite MLB teams today, Vlad and Bichette surrounded by average (1-2 WAR) players is unlikely to be enough. Not even close actually.
  21. Goddamn don't include me with spank and gruber
  22. this would be dumb you only offer JD a QO and if he accepts, he plays 1B/DH, and if he crushes it at the plate and stays healthy, trade him. Vlad at 3B. You don't potentially piss off a guy like Vlad by putting him at 1B after he's been busting his balls to play a capable 3B, and publicly say he is in the minors to work on his D.
  23. will sure, if he gets traded, no QO, duh. but if not, Jays would be stupid not to QO him
  24. JD will get a QO. Thats a no doubter.
  25. OK, but don't the Jays need to QO him to be eligible for recompense?
